Got this years Christmas issue of 2000 AD with a story by Eddie Robson, and the beginning of a new series by Guy Adams (and some other names Big Finish fans may recognise) while Emma Beeby wrote a Catwoman/Wonder Woman story for DC's New Talent showcase I got the New Talent Showcase mainly for the Kyle Rayner story. Was excited to see the artist from Omega Men doing the art for that one. I hope this at least leads into a mini-series for Kyle. His return in Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps will tide me over for the next few months though, as will the return of a popular character from the Geoff Johns era. Mine!

Star Wars' Doctor Aphra #1 A spinoff for the SW equivalent of River Song, but before she turned good in Let's Kill Hitler. Aphra, her homicidal droids and her wookie friend/debt collector are now having their own adventures after being one of the most fun part of the Vader book over the last year or two. It opens with a lovely spin on the "hero reveals themself" trope and there's some wonderful dialogue and interplay between the leads. Triple Zero is tied with BB8 as my favourite Star wars droid. He's a protocol droid who looks like C3PO and has the exact same maners...but he just loves killing humans. There's a nice backup strip with the young Aphra learning to be so evious and callous. I was so peeved that the Vader strip ended at issue 25 but this is a real soother.

didn't work tonight, so I finished off the complete Squadron Supreme Omnibus, made me want to catch up with Kyle Richmond in the Defenders, and got started on Hero for Hire/Power Man/Iron Fist/Power Man & Iron Fist books. Getting the order right is a pain.
Got started on Hero for Hire and had to dig out the Black Goliath books, What a complicated situation with women that was. Made me want to dig out the Night Nurse books. And now i'll have to read up on Bill Foster all the thru Civil War.
I stopped buying Marvel after Age of Ultron, does anybody know, is Foster still dead, and Sabretooth, and I heard they killed off Wolverine, but no way is he staying dead? Cause I think Scott Lang is back, boy, books were better back then.
Now I'm just getting the new Valiants, gotta catch up on them one of these days.

You know those little marks in comics, that says see this issue or that issue, for the full story. Why do I always have to do that? I gotta switch to digital comics. It's gotta be easier than digging thru this many comic books.

Anybody wanna buy some comics? If I unload these I could have a downstairs again. And maybe a life. What titles do you have? Pretty much every Marvel from the 60's thru till around, well Age of Ultron. I got a nice run of Marvel Spotlight, first Man-thing, first Ghost Rider, lots of firsts in that run, i don't have the super expensive stuff in great shape, but i pretty much have it. Gradeable copies of much of it, Got a Hero for Hire 1 that would grade out a 9.8 easy if it didn't have a date stamp on the cover. Want to read something cool, look up Avengers: The Initiative 10-12, Dan Slott blew up my town. I live in Bulls Gap, TN. Thanks a lot Avengers, i still aint found that hole you left.

I'm more into DC than Marvel. I don't really like how Marvel seem obsessed with starting back at #1 and churning out big events, especially written by Bendis. Civil War II has been very underwhelming, with the writing being a major flaw. I first started reading comics with Ultimate Spider-Man about eight years ago. I got into DC through Green Lantern. Saw the Revenge of Black Hand trade at the library and started reading.

It was fine with Secret Wars last year, being the first time DC had made any serious changes line-wide, but the timing with Civil War II has barely given the titles any chance to settle in before being uprooted by it and interrupting early storylines. Rather telling the only title Marvel publishes to have more than 20 issues currently is Star Wars.

When you buy a hard copy of an issue from Marvel you get a code to access a digital copy of that issue. However soon the codes will only let you access digital copies of pre-determined classic titles that tie into what Marvel wants to market most. For example, the first week of February you can get Civil War II #0 (the trade for the core title is released then). Not a smart business move there Marvel. One could see it as another way Marvel is trying to boost perceived sales figures. They've already been proven to send more than individual stores have ordered and like their variant covers (the first issue of US Avengers just released had a variant cover for each US state).

The Green Lantern Geoff Johns Omnibus (volume 1) arrived today, so I've been reading some of that. You won't believe what Guy Gardner did to Batman. Hint: it's so utterly juvenile that you can't help but laugh or facepalm.

Now, if you could use the 'free comic' digital credit to buy an old Marvel title of your own choosing from their entire digital back catalogue, then it might not be a completely bad idea; buy a moden comic from the comic shop, check out some digital back issues of your choice as a bonus with the free codes. That might be a nice incentive to some people. However, to be force fed certain comics to 'hook you in' to a specific title is a load of nonsense.

It takes away an incentive to buy hard copies of multiple titles as well, when you can get them cheaper on digital platforms and bypass the forced promotion Marvel is doing.
