There was even a civil war among some of the writers, making characters say how pointless the whole thing was!

Hellblazer. The satire is certainly laid on thick, I'm learning quite a lot about late 1980s British culture.

Titan Hunt DC Universe: Rebirth Titans Vol 1
Coming off from Young Justice, I was surprised just how much I fell in love with Wally West in Rebirth. I'm not sure why the Young Justice writers decided to change so much about the character and give us what we got. (I know they were aiming for dumb teenage boy with a crush, but they made Wally a real creeper and Artemis deserved so much better.)
And Dick and Wally's friendship is a lot more paltable to me now - two kids bonding over being sidekicks and their mutual trauma and supporting each other.
The Return of Wally West is a fun ride, allowing newcomers like myself to feel the weight of the DC mythology, but with the memory wipe, allowing us to meet it on our own terms. There's some nice romantic drama and I love the fact that Roy is clearly attracted to Donna's strength and power and it's not overplayed as S-E-X-Y- but just a part of why he likes her. Looking forward to Mal and Karen being the adult couple you wonder if you'll ever be and scared of being. I miss Gnnark, though and an explanation can't come soon enough to his whereabouts.
If there's a problem, I get that the DC Universe is full of the fantastical, and yes, Wally's friends are trying to help him get through his issues, but it's still a little weird to have Wally's friends urging him on to connect with a woman who has no memory of him.
And Linda Park, as much as I like her character, as this is a jumping on point, well, she doesn't feel like a character in her own right just yet, but part of Wally's hero's journey. Yes, there's a little ambiguity over it with Speed-Force Linda, but not really enough.
I also think it's nice that the series didn't have Wally try and restore his parent's memories, either. Wally's been through a lot and he doesn't need to go through that gauntlet, perhaps not ever.

Read The Fade Out last week - excellent story and fantastic art. If you love film noir you should check it out.
Just read the deluxe edition of Velvet - again excellent story and amazing art work. Velvet kills the need for a female Bond.

Looking forward to the Darkhawk one-shot. The character really intrigued me from his appearance in Runaways.

i read an old marvel book called fear itself youth in revolt by sean mckeever. i read a few things by him i would say this is his best work. its about a whole bunch of z list teen heroes that get called in to handle all the craziness fall out from fear itself. while the big names take on the hammer wielders these z listers were supposed to keep the piece help calm down riots and such. it was a nice look at characters i didn't know doing something a bit different.
i went to my local shop today picked up secret empire 9 dc's manhunter special nightwing the new world order

Re-reading Green Lantern (New 52). Just got to #8. Nok. Doug Mankhe pencils the current Superman storyline, where Clark goes yellow. Bit of a shame those 20 issues are on a compressed timeframe.

Rereading Emperor of the Daleks. An appearance from the Gold Emperor back in the day must've been quite something, the first time that he's properly acknowledged outside of The Dalek Chronicles. A theory: I reckon that the Dalek Supreme as mentioned post-Resurrection is responsible for the Daleks' military conquests abroad in the wider universe, while the Emperor itself maintains their dominion back home on Skaro. One has been tasked with monitoring their expansion, the other rules over what has already been subjugated.
There's a lot explored in these comics. I'm a big fan of the idea that although the Daleks are bred with an instinctive factor that drives their xenophobic mentality. Unlike a species like the Cybermen, each drone possesses an individuality all its own. They're totalitarian, but not utilitarian. Hence the emergence of Daleks like Zeg who challenged the Emperor to a duel for Dalek leadership. The Daleks are shown after that point to have a voting system in place, which is likely used to identify dissidents and exterminate them before they ferment rebellion. When the Civil War between the Emperor and Davros arrived, I suspect that there were a number of drones who submitted willingly to reconditioning because they believed he was the better candidate.
Gets even more interesting if you believe that the Emperor was originally Dalek Prime, the drone that fired on Davros at the end of Genesis of the Daleks and assumed leadership. It's a very long vendetta.

Doctor Who - The Lost Dimension Alpha Issue Damn they've thrown a lot into this. Love the appearance of a couple of charaters
The Power of the Dark Crystal #6 Such a great series and we are already at the halfway point. From what I gather, this series is based on two scripts for the sequel film they planned. From what ive read so far its really a shame we never got that sequel

I return once again to Marvel's prolific horror output from the 1970s, namely Tomb of Dracula (which I understand is being collected and re-released this October), Werewolf by Night, Monster of Frankenstein and Man-Thing. They never, ever disappoint. I still cannot believe they were produced over forty years ago. These are amongst the best comic strip stories I've ever read, and I can't see that changing.
