A panel at SDCC, and I'm sure it's nothing more

A panel at SDCC, and I'm sure it's nothing more Twitter, of course, completely disagres and has blown up overnight, insisting that there definitely will be a DW/ST crossover episode made and it will be the best/worst/wokest/deleteasapplicablest thing ever

The Millie waxwork will probably be a better actress.

The Millie waxwork will probably be a better actress. If you can’t say something nice sometimes, just don’t say it!

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

The Millie waxwork will probably be a better actress. Remember those times when you told me off for airing my thoughts on the Disney deal?

The Millie waxwork will probably be a better actress. I’m all for contrary opinions when when you dig into the “what” and “why” of it (and for seizing a punchline when a setup is offered), but that’s just mean. It adds nothing to the conversation and drags down the generally nice vibe of the forum. Please don’t.

Millie was a highlight of the series. She's a brilliant companion and in 73 Yards and Boom, got to show why she won Best Actor at 17 for her Corrie role Not best Young actor...best overall.
She's fab.

The Millie waxwork will probably be a better actress. Ya' really think that, or just going for the joke? I thought she did much better with what she was given than Billie Piper did. Honestly I think Billie Piper was probably the worst companion of New Who, at least in terms of acting -- I'm really glad she was cast in the the anniversary special because she's so, so, so much better as The Moment than she ever was as Rose. Millie Gibson, meanwhile, has never failed to do justice to a scene or line -- though I did kind of have to laugh at how she spent almost one entire episode lying down on the set's floor. I've certainly had my issues with this season's writing, but the acting has seemed to me to be absolutely stellar -- some of the best the show's ever had.

Everyone knows someone like her. Young and kind...but can be bratty and jealous. Billie pitched it perfectly and is a massive reason the show came back so well, and thus is still about today. The Moment is a completely different role. The show's secret weapon is Andy Prior. He's the casting director who has given us 20 years of brilliant picks, rarely getting one wrong and picking future megastars and Oscar winners. The companion actors have almost all been excellent at what they needed to do as well. Some struggle with parts - Freema couldn't do "BIG" moments, like laughing at The Master or "I'm bringing you back to Earth.." in Sontaran Stratagem. Tosin gets some hate but Ryan is just a regular lad, not overly chatty. Again, very real. I think we've been super lucky to have the companions we've had. Millie is near the top as an actor, even if Ruby's arc doesn't work. And hey, RTD can always retcon things and act like he had a bigger plan after Empire Of Death ended up pretty unpopular.

. And hey, RTD can always retcon things and act like he had a bigger plan after Empire Of Death ended up pretty unpopular. That’s the one thing he can’t do as Season 2 is already more or less done, so he’s committed to whatever direction he had in mind originally.

Some of S1 was filmed LONG after the rest. Reshoots are not just common but budgeted for. He can have an inserted scene with two people in a room and change anything he wants in the edit. And, of course, S2 isn't the last. So he can do what he wants, when.

A retcon of the scale needed to substantively change what Empire of Death established would need some pretty hefty reshoots, more than Who usually seems to do. Tbh I suspect RTD won’t really care about the online reception from fans.

Re: Rose, I'm well aware she's generally well-regarded. Her performance has just never quite clicked with me. She always felt less like a person than a character, if that makes sense. Though, admittedly, her high-energy dynamic with the 10th Doctor definitely didn't leave me predisposed to think well of her, and it's not like her subsequent appearances in in season 4 gave her all that much to work with. And I certainly don't dispute that she was a popular character who played a large part in the rebooted show's initial success -- I just don't think that can be attributed wholly to her acting skills. And to be clear: I'm not saying Piper's is a poor performance in my estimation, just on the weaker side. And if we're including Classic-era companions in a ranking, she'd do quite well in my estimation. The main point I wanted to convey, rather, is just how much I thought she was able to improve over those five or six(?) years. Can't say I'm familiar with Andy Prior, but I don't feel the need to do any research on him: I'll happily and emphatically agree with you on that point. (New) Doctor Who has some of the most consistent great casting of any TV show I've ever seen in my life. It is, frankly, astonishing just how many actors are pitch-perfect, even when it comes to the secondary and tertiary casts. (And when it comes to the casting in the Classic era... that was definitely more of a mixed bag overall, but the Doctors themselves? Every single one of them: pitch-perfect.) .... I don't know that I've seen enough of Millie Gibson to rank her next to the other companions, but for now I'm tentatively inclined to agree -- I'd definitely Ranke her performances near the top. Possibly at the top? The only other companion-actor I'd rate as highly would be Katherine Tate, but hers was a very different sort of performance, so it feels kind of odd to compare them.
