Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-monster is probably one of my favourite X-Files episodes now. I thought it was funny and just different enough - I'd watch something with Darin Morgan as a head writer.
I hope at least one of the next three episodes is a real Great Episode as well.
PS. I thought it had taken 21 years for anyone to bring up Scully's Bruckman-promised immortality but apparently there was an episode with a photographer and Death in season six I had entirely forgotten about. But still a great flippant mention of such a cool hanging plot thread.

Hated, hated, HATED Skinner and Mulder's chat in Ep 1 where they basically retcon the entire first 9 series as being manipulated by Cancer Man and the Conspiracy. ""I was being led by my nose through a dark alley to a dead end." just smacked of making sure the slate was wiped clean to at least Season 2 status quo. You don't need to crap on years of fan-investment to setup a new paradigm. It was like Spectre where SPOILER - Blofeld takes credit for the events of all 3 Craig films despite so much happening randomly that couldn't be accounted for. That was really not needed in The X-Files - may as well have a sign on screen saying "NOW NEWBIE FRIENDLY".
That said, I thought that was kinda the only issue I had - it felt very much like the same show picking up. It would have been easy to go with a new title sequence for one, but no, they went with the same one from nearly a quarter century ago. Sending a very clear message - this is a direct follow up. Thankfully they realise how dumb the end of the second film was so Mulder and Scully aren't together in this.

I agree with you there Davy. It just seemed so stupid and a bit of a cop out, to say that. It actually makes no sense as a retcon, especially with the ship, the black goo, the violent Aliens and the conspiracy in the first movie. It was a good episode, but the retcon was useless

It was a good episode, but the retcon was useless Especialy since, with doing Roswell right off the bat, they're effectively rebooting anyway. They're going back to the original alien conspiracy that any newbies would know about anyway. No-one would be lost with kicking things off with Area 51. So it wasn't just a stupid movie - it was completely unnecessary. But hey - it's Chris Carter. If anyone was going to drop the ball even slightly, it was going to be him.

"I didnt like what i wrote before, so i'm gonna change it all now, but it's still gonna be there". They might as well have done a full reboot if this is the way they've gone with the arc plot now.

Well ive got this on series link waiting for me to get home and have a few spare hours. As for the X-Files in general, what was the best series/season? I'm going to buy it...when i know which one Series 3 - it has some of the best standlones (Clyde Bruckman's Final Reposte, Chung's From Outer Space) as well as some of the best arc-stuff including the debut of the black oil (a huge plot point). It's the most X-Files-y series by far. The best X-Files writer, Darin Morgan, script edits most of it and writes 3 himself. For sheer oddness, I adore Series 7 as well. It's just so out there...genies, meta movies being made in episode, the episode filmed as an ep of Cops, the one where they get sucked into a video game...it's the series the show just said "This year -we have fun".

So the latest episode didn't care for the X-file aspect of it (and I had a good laugh at how they negatively portrayed Philadelphia) but the stuff with Scully and her mom, Mulder & Scully in the hospital and the end on the beach was all fantastic.

"Scully, back in the day is now."... S10E04: Home Again has an abstract mythology concept vigilante with an ambiguous explanation ending. The actor that played Gaeta from Battlestar Galactica briefly stars within this episode. And, Mulder and Scully unintentionally cross flashlight beams while in the pursuit of evidence. A 2 story in 1 episode that has mixed successes and failures - 6.8/10.

Achy Breaky Heart & Honky Tonk Badonkadonk ... S10E05: Babylon an offbeat criminal-investigation-of-the-week episode where Mulder and Scully pair up with younger models of themselves (Miller and Einstein). That involves very serious subject matter (terrorism), which at times was trivialized by its comedic investigation approach. That being said, I liked the light at the end of the tunnel imperfect humanity aspect that was displayed within this story. The selected music that was applied to this episode was appealingly appropriate for the humorous and human moments. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson onscreen seem to be having a ball making fun of their steadfast characters and show's past - once again an unconventional episode that I enjoyed. 7.3/10 The trick here is to not take these tenth season X-Files stories too seriously or you will find yourselves to be rather disappointed with them.

I was quite put off by the stereotyped portrayal of some characters in Babylon.
The story itself was not bad.

Just watched Mulder and Scully meet the Were-Monster. This is the best episode of the series so far. Funny and not afraid to be Meta and the 'Flashback' to the shop was hysterical

The 6th episode was a joke. Chris Carter proving once again that he's the George Lucas of television. He's had 3 chances to do a "this could be the last X-Files" story now in Series 9, I Want To Believe and this series and they've all been rotten. Also, it felt like they ran out of money here. There was no sense of this great global pandemic at all.

There was no sense of this great global pandemic at all. Haven't watched the finale yet but I'm at a loss why anyone was excited for the mytharc. That fell apart around series 3 and you could tell Chris Carter was just making it up as he went along. Still I am wondering if there was two endings. A cliffhanger ending if the series did well (which it has) and something more final. I am sure we will get more X-Files.

Yeah, I haven't watched the finale yet, either. Need to find a time to do that.

Saw the final episode of the mini season tonight. I thought it married the new mythology elements with the classic ones really well and wound up being quite a nail bitter. The show has done a good job of tapping into the fears of the post 9/11 world without losing the core of what made it work in the first place. Over all, of the six episodes, I felt there was one weak episode, the fifth one, "Babylon", one brilliant one, the third episode "Mulder and Scully Meet The Were-Monster", and four episodes that I found solidly entertaining and fun with some shared core themes that were surprisingly emotional. Can't wait to hear that more is on the way.

I agree. I really liked the finale as well. Much better than the opening episode. It's just that the ending was quite a cliffhanger. I'm pretty sure we'll be getting more.
