Been doing a bit of Hitman: Blood Money lately. Not a game I can just marathon straight through from beginning to end, find myself playing the level I'm up to over and over just to see how everything ticks, how I can do the mission best, etc. And I don't know if it's just me or what, but it feels like it's a lot easier to have everything go completely sideways, than it ever was in the original three titles.

I wound up finding myself seriously addicted to Skyward Sword HD this week. The motion controls really do just make everything, even the most mundane of actions, fun. It's amazing how much better this version of the game is compared to the original, where it just kept getting in its own way all the time.
Im already up the the Sandsea area and a, really looking forward to seeing it in HD. I remember the whole mobile-time shift thing Bein insanely impressive back in the day... hope it holds up.

Populous: The BeginningI bought the PC version since the disc doesn't seem fit to run on a PS2. (A lot of faff for nothing ) A few things bug me. The Soundtrack is different, though still tonally similar. I can't map 'Cast Spell' or 'Rotate View' to their own buttons. And this version uses pop-up boxes in lieu of the booming dramatic narration from the Playstation version (which is 100% a downgrade). But the mouse controls for selecting work better, and the visuals certainly look a lot nicer. I'm still enjoying it. Metal Gear Rising: RevengeanceI love this game so god damn much! EDIT: SkelemaniaDecided to dip into my back-catalogue of Indie games. A charming Metroidvania sytle platformer. Only look an hour and a half to beat, but very fun.

Aliens Fireteam Elite not feeling this yet. I read a negative review titled " In Space, No One Can Hear You Snore", which made me laugh.

Deltarune Chapter 2: A Cyber's WorldReplayed the Chapter 1 in preparation. Both for fun, and cuz my original save file was on PS4. Chapter 2 was certainly worth the wait. All the charm of the first but even more ambitious and extensive. Still got a few odds and ends to clean up and then... back to waiting. Til' more adventures with The $?$! Squad.

Streets Of Rage 4, Retro Nostalgia.
Red Faction Remastered, Enjoyable if a little repetitive.
MK 11 Ultimate, poor in my opinion, the fightings slow & nowhere near as polished as MK XL.

Splurged out on the STEAM Halloween sale.
I had been eyeing the last Telltale game, the last series for the Walking Dead, for a while. I loved the previous series (especially 1+2). The writing, the characters, the heartbreaking plot, the tough decisions, the despair... these games are stunning. They will take you to hell and back and will make you care and weep for these characters and their ordeals. So after development hell has released this, and since it was on special, I got my hands on it. Looking forward to this!
I also enjoyed King of Dragon Pass, and the sequel had been on my wish list for ages. So I decided to take the plunge and got "Six Ages Ride like the Wind".
On paper, these games are simple text adventures, basically an interactive Excel Spreadsheet with images and text boxes.
In reality, there is a huge world in there, with extensive lore, world building, role playing as a tribal leader, fantastic artwork and immersive game play.
For King of Dragon Pass, I needed 3 playthroughs. The first one I failed miserably, the second one I nearly won and in the third one, after I had learned what to do, I achieved victory.
Plus, I also got a new Warhammer strategy game, that got good reviews. Many Warhammer games are pretty poor, but this one looks good, promises to re-create the tabletop experience, and reviews say you need some good tactical thinking. Warhammer Battlesector, only two factions so far (small developer): Blood Angels and Tyranids.
Since the games clubs are still not running smoothly here, I hope I can find some challenge and distraction with this game. I just have to pretend that the guys are dressed in pink, since I once upon a time took part in tournaments (and even got a medal!) with my PINK Angels. So yeah, I am familiar with the play style of the Sons of Sanguinius and ready to defend Baal.

I think the first "season" in particular is one of the best pieces of storytelling to come out of TWD, in any medium.

I started the game, but have not finished it so far- had been on my hard drive until yesterday when I temporarly kicked it off to make room. I agree, the combat has room for improvement. Part 2 had a lot of issues, but I really enjoyed the combat in that one, it just flowed naturally and while fighting, I hardly noticed all the recycled locations, it was sooo gripping. But Inquisition? For someone with ADHD who comes home at night and just wants some quick fun, this turned out tedious.

I love my RPG games, Mass Effect Fallout 4 & Witcher 3 are three of my favourite games but Dragon Age Inquisition it's just not gripped me due to poor clunky combat & i don't like having control other characters. Sometimes as you said you want a easy pick up and play game. As for Dark Souls my cousin hasn't got a clue what he let himself in for, he not big gamer & not into upgrading character weapons and armour, i told him not buy it but he ignored me, i give him 20 minutes before he rage quits.

Haha, the very reason I never tried out Dark Souls!
Back in the day, I was very much into RPG games and played hundreds of hours of Gothic 1+2 (still my all time favorites), Morrowind and Oblivion. I loved Witcher 1. Mass Effect 2 might be my favorite game ever.
However, as I grew older and had less and less time (and also lacking patience), I started to not finish my RPGs. I think the last one I finished and nearly did all there is to see was Fallout New Vegas (which I liked more that the previous one). 50 hours in, I quit with Skyrim without ever seeing the end, I just lost interest.
Tastes change.
Now I am much more into adventures and strategy games, and I really like good stories in games. I am also very open for "weird" sounding and experimental games. I think one of the most wonderful and relaxing and amazing games I played in recent years must have been "Eastshade". It is a gorgeous immersive exploration game without any weapon, without any combat, without any violence.
Otherwise, it plays like one of the Elder Scrolls games, with quests and interesting characters and immersive world building.
I would never have imagined something like that could work. But somehow, it does.
Even boring old fetch quests are transformed into something magical. You just have to accept the slower pace and roll with it.
It speaks a lot for this game when I, with my ADHD and short attention span, finished a non violent nature exploration game while never finishing more flashy fighting games.

And just right before the STEAM sale ended, I found another awesome Mystery Adventure game. "Forgotten City". OMG, this is gorgeous! Mystery Adventure with a Time Travel mechanic. This is sooooo totally up my alley, and it just looks great. You explore an ancient Roman city that is threatened by a horrific curse. Full of moral dilemmas, multiple endings and interesting characters.

I've been doing poorly this last month or two and haven't been able to play any games that required much focus (so sadly I've yet to finish my two big summer games, Skyward Sword and The Great Ace Attorney, but I have been playing a really fun little PC game called Low Magic Age that I really enjoy. It's still in Early Access, so it's lacking a lot of features, but the combat/exploration loop is pretty solid. It's basically a low-level D&D sandbox with really snappy, fast turn-based combat. Dungeon crawling is a lot of fun with randomized layouts, loot, encounters and traps. Definitely one of the best games I've found for scratching that D&D itch. I was so excited when I learned about The Forgotten City that I grabbed a copy immediately. Such a fun premise! I was a bit annoyed at the interview w/ the governor where he pontificates about how "enlightened" Rome is (which felt very much like the game creators explaining to the audience that, l actually the Romans were surprisingly modern!") and there was no option to point out that the many rights he espoused applied only to the small minority of citizens. Like, yeah, if you were a wealthy man living in the capital, things were pretty good... but for everyone else? Not so much. I'm also a huge fan of mysteries, so I love the initial hoo, of the game is hunting down a missing person. Feels very, "Bronze Age Noir." Is that a thing? It should be a thing. Set the game aside after exploring the city a bit after leaving the leader door, but I hope to get back to it soon.

Set the game aside after exploring the city a bit after leaving the leader door, but I hope to get back to it soon. Yes, I have realized a while ago we seem to share quite a similar taste. And reading your reviews, and bringing up the points so much clearer than I could, is always refreshing.
I am glad you are enjoying this game, too. You are in for a real treat.
This game is amazing. I just played 3 hours straight (has not happened to me in ages) and figured out one of the endings and found out more things.
On the surface, you have mystery, you get action and horror sequences. The good thing is, you get a warning note telling you (like the Torchwood disclaimer) "Beware, if you are faint of heart, there might be horror scenes to follow." On the surface, it is a mystery game. But what it actually is, is a lesson/ debate in philosophy. It starts out kind of predictably with showing us the conflicts present in Roman society. As you mention, rich and poor, but also of the Romans with the hunted Christians, who are seen as terrorists and enemies of the state. It is up to you to decide and to find out who is the villain and who the victim.
Who is right? Who is wrong?
But it does not stop there, no, it goes deeper.
What is good? What is evil? What is right and what is wrong? Can doing the wrong thing cause good? And doing the right thing can be evil? If you delve deeper, you will be asked exactly these questions. What is religion? What makes a god? What is truth?
The story might not give any answer (because there might not be a definite answer) but it makes you THINK. It makes you contemplate all these BIG questions that are as old as humanity.
I feel VERY MUCH reminded of my classes in religion and philosophy (I did my minor degree in that, would you have guessed?). I had a fantastic teacher who always challenged us to think about these questions. He would have loved this game.
I do miss him. I miss the heated debates about philosophy and ethics. This game just made me realize HOW much I missed this.
I am stunned. This should be required material for any philosophy/ ethics class!
I have to work tomorrow and should be in bed, but I am just aghast at what I just have witnessed and the questions I have been asked, and it will take a long time for me to process it and to fall asleep tonight! I had to stop myself from playing. I will not solve the riddles today (maybe on the weekend, when I have more time), and I think you have to take a break just because you need time to process. And to think about how you want to progress. This is amazing. This game is a masterpiece. Not because you get to shoot a few zombies in pretty antique catacombs. But because this is one of the BEST representations of PHILOSOPHICAL questions I have seen in any medium. WOW.
If this does not receive any more awards, I do not know.
And most amazing of all, this was done by a team of 3 (!!) developers.
