Why bother? We all know that Christopher Eccleston wouldn't even bother picking up the phone. Actors have their roles and move on. If Eccleston doesn't want to return to the role, it's his decision and we should respect that - Nine material can always be found elsewhere. Someone will bridge the gap somehow (such as the recent Titan Ninth Doctor mini-series, for example) and I'm sure Big Finish have plans for the character. Shame it'll likely be with Companion Chronicles rather than full cast audio dramas. I don't know why Christopher Eccleston can't share David Tennant and Matt Smith's attitudes towards the show.

I'll think they'll test the water with the Tenth Doctor audios first but hey we're Doctor Who fans & while the Eleventh isn't my favourite Doctor, I'll still buy them. Maybe Big Finish writers can inject more darkness into Matt's Doctor which i sensed was there but never really unleashed. Sorry, but I'm sick of "darkness" in the Doctor, that why Capaldi has become predictable with their "dark" moments and make him repellent to the audience. It's good in small doses, so when the Eleventh Doctor murdering Solomon feels great and disturbing at the same time. Let's be honest, this scene is more darker than all Capaldi era. Maybe it's because he enjoys it with sadistic pleasure www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPS2Wx93K7I

Like the Sixth Doctor, I expect miracles and improvements in the Eleventh Doctor era in Big Finish. I do not have much faith in Tennant, I feel that their stories will meet the same fate as the Fourth Doctor audios to be between "regular" and "meh", and listen to the trailer and his high-pitched voice almost ran me deaf.
But what I wish with all my strength is ... a HISTORICAL, a simple good historical story for all new series Doctors. Is it too much to ask?

Regarding Christopher Eccleston - I don't blame him for wanting to distance himself from the show and do other things, if that is what he wants. Why shouldn't he? He gave us 13 wonderful episodes, was the face that brought Doctor Who back to an audience on over 10 million and seems to be a thoroughly honest, decent man. If he wants to come to BF for some audios, that would be great, but I'm not going to knock him if he doesn't wich to keep bunge-jumping into my favourite show.
Also, if he had appeared in the anniversary show, chances are, we wouldn't have got John Hurt. I mean - John Hurt!
It's all good.

Completely agree, as I always say I prefer to enjoy what Eccleston gave us (so fantastically) rather than resent that which he is under no obligation to supply. If it wasn't for the show being relaunched in 2005 there's no knowing how or if Big Finish would still be going as popular today, and if it wasn't for Eccleston's performance captivating a new generation of kids (myself included) and introducing us to the show is such style (If I'm honest Series 1 is pretty hit and miss) I'm inclined to think there would be a great deal fewer listeners of B.F today...

Both the Main Range and the Companion Chronicles started off with some very run-of-the-mill stories (barring a few for the latter) to acclimatise both writers and audiences to the new medium (audio dramas and audiobooks, respectively). Knowing Big Finish I'm sure we'll get a pure historical at some point.

I'd definitely LOVE a historical for one of the new doctors. That would be my dream come true (well historical stories are always my dream). Anyways it's possible Matt wasn't lying about not being approached. Matt's agent was approached but maybe because Matt's agent knew Matt was busy he/she didn't even bring the prospect up to him. Or maybe Matt didn't want to say too much because serious negotiations couldn't take place yet. Anyways I am sure we will get Matt before too long.

Well he did recently play the Doctor again for a sick boy in the hospital. So that doesn't seem like it was just a job for him.

Me too. He could have at least filmed a 'Happy birthday, Doctor Who' message for Behind The Lens.

He didn't have to play the Doctor.

Nicholas Briggs addressed the BF/Matt Smith comment on the Unofficial Big Finish Facebook page yesterday: "Well, we have asked. We were given a positive response from his agent, but told that he was rather busy at the moment. But it's great to know he'd still like to do it." It's great to know big finish have at least asked. I still don't see the rush for some at the moment to get 11 on board now. They just got the licence for the nu series stuff. They have 2 new doctors start within 7 months of each other. Add on the 4 unit box sets the river song releases Churchill and the new monsters sets its not as if bf is going to be lacking in new series stuff for foreseeable future.

I've loved to be in those 50th Anniversery negations though, I mean half a dozen meetings and the end result is the writer creating a whole new Doctor to cover for CE's absence after which CE's entitled to think he doesn't owe the fan base anything.

The War Doctor was nothing to do with CE. they could have got McGann in, the fans would have loved it. That McGann was available does not change the fact that Hurt was a replacement for Eccleston. Had Chris agreed to do Day of the Doctor, there would be no War Doctor. I can see why McGann wasn't chosen. He was, at that point, largely known as the Doctor from the failed Telemovie (who might have been American, and possibly noncanon, depending on whom you asked.) However much fans of the expanded universe loved him, the larger public wouldn't have had any particular reason to be excited, beyond "He's a Doctor we haven't seen much of." The Ninth Doctor has the significance of being the first New Series Doctor, whereas the Eighth Doctor is neither of the New Series nor the Classic one. It was much better, from a promotional standpoint, to create a Doctor entirely bound up in the Time War, with the allure of mystery, who acts like a Classic Series Doctor, and can be attached to a very big name.

All true but how many more units do you think BF will sell of 10th Doctor audios in relation to all the other new series projects? I'm willing to bet a lot more and how many more units do you think 11th Doctor audios will move in relation to all the other new series box sets? Do you pour resources into a Winston Churchill box set with a certain degree of limited appeal or do you pour those same resources into 11th Doctor audios?

Agreed, I also personally felt the tragic yet final ending McGann got in NOTD was more powerful (and more in keeping with the general character of the 8th Doctor i.m.o) than the bittersweet, yet hopeful ending the War Doctor got in DOTD as I explained in this thread a couple of weeks ago: notthebigfinishforum.freeforums.net/thread/847/slightly-winded-analysis-night-doctor
