I know I'm a bit behind the times but I've just watched Guardians of the Galaxy with the family. What a great movie and one of the few 12 rated films we are happy for our youngest to watch. Looking forward to number two (and hopefully a return for Karen Gillan).
Groot rules...
Cheers

In the heart of the sea, a very emotional tale of survival which inspired the novel Moby Dick.

Cinderella, the live action Ken brannagh one....
Story wise was a bit Ho hum, but the visuals are a thing of beauty looked like an old Hollywood musical from the 50's shot in technicolor......beautiful
And the dresses, now I'm a bloke who is zero in the fashion stakes, wearing just overalls for 90% of the time but even I thought they awesome!
Good solid family film, and the best live action version of the Cinderella story to date (anyone remember the snore fest that was slipper & the rose), but still not as enjoyable at the animated version

Ace Ventura Pet Detective. The best one the other two didnt happen
The Fifth Element
The Rescuers. I do prefer the second one, but i always loved this
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. I find it interesting that every time Channel 5 show this now, its always the extended version.

Cop Land, a wonderful gritty action thriller. I really enjoyed Cop Land - and most of James Mangold's work - but I'm not sure it's an action-thriller. That makes it sound more Die Hard like than it really is. It's almost a Western with Stallone playing the Gary Cooper role of the stoic but quiet sheriff who eventually has enough.

Deadpool Well, that was refreshing. If I had to rank the top three Fox X-Men movies I would have to go 3.The Wolverine, 2.Deadpool and 1.X-Men: First Class. Of the three I think Deadpool is the most Marvel Films like of the Fox franchise in that for the first time Fox produced a mutant movie that actually looked like its comic book counterpart. I don't know if I'm in a hurry to watch it again but I really enjoyed it and laughed out loud more than a few times.

I'd like to include Days Of Future Past which would be close for me but it's just too sprawling and disjointed. Sadly the extended "Rogue" cut does nothing but make it seem even more like disparate constituent parts that never make a whole. The reviews embargo for Apocalypse was lifted last night and it doesn't seem like it's going to be any more coherent, unfortunately.

I re-watched X2 recently and I don't think it has held up especially well. Turning around and watching Days of Future Past right behind X2 and Bryan Singer looks like a film director who hasn't learned anything new and who may have in fact regressed. Outside of Quicksilver, I found Days to still be a bit of a mess and a bore. I don't know that I have any interest in seeing the new movie while it is playing in the cinema. I would go see Civil War for a third time though.

I think X-2 holds up great. It gave us a fantastic version of Stryker - who we've had twice since Brian Cox and neither came close - and a great take on Weapon X. It does suffer from the eternal problem of Cyclops being a glorified extra instead of the leader of the X-Men but that's been the case in all the films he's appeared in. From reviews, it seems he's one of the brighter spots in the new one.
Will be interesting if it struggles at the box office even slightly - who would have thought Deadpool looked to be the cashcow for Fox while X-Men toiled and Fantastic Four completely flopped? They've greenlit another X-Men film (set in the 90s) and a New Mutants film already, Gambit seems to be back on for 2018 and Wolverine 3 (which sounds like a loose Old Man Logan adaptation) is filming now so if Apocalypse struggles, it could be a tense few years at Fox for Kinsberg and co since they've committed huge resources to a large X-Men expanded universe.

I would not have thought Deadpool would have been such a huge hit but I'm not surprised by it. Again, it boils down to a studio trusting the source material even a little instead of studio execs deciding to change things up and make these heroes something they are not. The new Wolverine movie is shooting around here, I know a couple of people cast in it, and yes it does have an Old Man Logan vibe to it from what I've heard. And based on how badly Fox has screwed up the Fantastic Four and how well Marvel handled Spiderman in about 20 minutes, well, Fox should be walking over an agreement with Marvel to produce a FF movie for them. Like right now.

I'm not even sure, looking at logistics, that Marvel could even use the FF right now but Marvel would kill for Galactus, Victor Von Doom and The Silver Surfer. There are only so many premium blockbuster release slots and there are already too many characters in need of solo films, hence the team ups we've had since Phase 2 There's only so many slots Marvel can use and they're crammed to bursting untill 2020 as it is without adding the FF. They can't release films at Christmas since that's where the Star Wars films are now and Disney obviously aren't going to have a major Marvel film compete with one of their own Star Wars films. It's now at the stage where they're having to cancel films, like they just have done with Inhumans, to satisfy fan demand to make sequels to existing Marvel films. Who would have thought this would be possible a decade or two ago when we got maybe a comic book movie a year at best? Kevin Feige must go to sleep laughing every night Of course the execs at Warners would probably kill to have "problems" like that after Batman V Superman did awful business after the opening week. Like Fox, they may well have announced their future plans before bothering to see if audiences actually wanted to commit the money and time to see a dozen films over the next 6 years in their shared universe.
