William Russell has a convention appearance booked for March (regeneration who), a signing this month (tenth planet events), another con set for September (whooverville) so other than his age and the natural frailties that come with it, he can't be doing all that poorly. He did Whooverville *last* September. I don't think anyone has been announced for this year yet. Ah, my mistake. You're quite correct, I see now that they had the 2017 guest list on the 2018 page. Regardless, I'd have to disagree with others here in that I would think that conventions and signings would be more taxing than studio work, not less, and Big Finish has worked with plenty of actors while they weren't in the best of physical health, but who knows what the real story is. William Russell may just have decided he had done enough, and if that was the case then who could blame him. Another of those things we may well be curious about, but will likely never really know the truth of.

He did say he’d like to do more, which is why everyone was confused as to whether he was retiring or not, as we were hearing two different stories.

It is possible that, much as the idea saddens me, Russell is just too old to play Ian at this point. It was already getting difficult to tell between the difference between Ian and the Doctor on his most recent releases and either he or Big Finish may have decided he wasn't up to continuing. If we could only get one more release with him, I'd want it to be a Main Range or special release with one of the later Doctors meeting up with an older Ian. It's a story I think needs to be told and we're sadly running out of time to do it as a full-cast. Ideally, it would be on the TV series, but I've given up hope on that happening.

Then they could just concoct a way to have him stop playing the Doctor, but continue to play Ian, if that were the case. Reprising his own role of Ian shouldn't ever be locked to his ability to stand in for the Doctor as well, at least in my opinion.

I would love to hear that - and there's a 1DAs story waiting to be told... 'The Two Ians'... It would be asking a lot - probably too much - of William Russell to do that one and I don't even suggest it seriously, but it could be a magnificent 'good-bye' to his great original character, if that's what it now has to be. And personally, I enjoyed his performances in 'The Age of Endurance' and 'The Fifth Traveller' just as much as in any of the earlier CCs and EAs in his excellent BF portfolio. I 'met' Ian in 'The Daleks' Target novel in 1974 where, as the first person narrator (and with the Doctor being devious and reckless in that book and quite unlike my heroic TV Doctor (Pertwee)) Ian came across to me as the real hero of the story. And again in the novels of 'The Crusades' and 'The Zarbi'. It was a long time before I had the chance to see any of his TV stories, but he - and Barbara - impressed me just as much on screen as on the page. What Companions!

I'd love to hear William Russell again, but if he continues his much-deserved retirement, we can still say we had a fantastic Final Ian Story years ago - The Time Museum (even if he did several more afterward). That story is everything you could want in a final send-off to the character.

It was actually through Big Finish's Ian stories that I grew to love the character, so if he never comes back as it looks like now, I'll definitely be sad - but I think ultimately that would make me cherish the stories we do have with William Russell even more.

Well, one of its features is that it has references to every single Ian story from TV as well as three of his BF stories. It is very much a celebration.

It seems Maureen O Brain is doing the linking narration which means i'll wait and see if I can some sort of deal on the fist 3 at BF Day Convention.

Coincidence or typo in the news release? Could have been a typo on the news article. None of the guest cast are credited on the product pages, so it's Shrodinger's typo for the moment.

The covers look great! I especially like The Dalek Occupation of Winter and The Crash of the UK-201.

As incredible as it sounds for a company who have been producing Doctor Who covers for almost 20 years now (!!), it's true! I don't know whether it is partly because the artists are now taking advantage of the new template and logo, but these are gorgeous covers, the best for a long time. I was originally only considering getting the Dalek story, but - perhaps it is shallow of me - I'm probably going to get the lot based on these images. Beautiful.
I've noticed that BF seem to have taken the picture of David Bradley's Doctor from the cover of The First Doctor Adventures Volume 2, and superimposed Hartnell's face over it for The Dalek Occupation of Winter. Or have they? The hair and hat look very similar.

Lovely covers. Really liking this new template as it’s allowing for some flexibility in the format. They’ve all got the howlround border, but the emphasis on it is differing for each cover.
Looking forward to these a lot, the miniseries approach makes it that bit more appealing.
