Well, I sort of watched the last three today. These were the shows I missed on PBS back in the early 90s, I had given up on the show at that point (plus it had moved to another channel in a terrible time slot)
I say sort of, since I had started a mechanic procedure on of my cars an hour or so before it started. I took some breaks to watch DW. I only first saw these a couple of years ago, as after hearing all of Seven from BF I figured I really should see the last few stories I missed the first time around, so I tracked down some really low-grade copies online. It was nice to see them "cast" and I'd come to eyeball the chat as well. This last season was definitely an improvement on McCoy's first two.
Then, after the credits rolled, and before they started the stream over, they did a little Clip Show with one couple-of-minutes-long scene from each Doctor... I have not seen this one before, but I don't know if I've watched any stream-reset-intervals before. On this clip show, up to Davison, it was one scene per Doctor, but then 5 got two different clips. Then they SKIPPED OL' SIXIE. I was pretty ticked off (I suspect that it was an editing error, the 2nd Davison clip wasn't really anything special) But at least I wasn't the only one in the chat room that were unhappy with this.

Y'know, I'm really going to miss this. This was an amazingly clever idea. It was really lovely being able to rekindle some old favourites and visit others totally anew. Thanks, fitzoliverj for leading us onto this in the first place.

It was a lot to follow all at once. I rather wish they'd do it again but spread it out only one or two days a week. My work schedule often didn't allow me to watch much. Still I did get to see a few stories I'd always wanted to, only knowing them initially from the "Programme Guide" (such as Planet of Giants and Enemy of the World) I kind of wish I'd caught The Gunfighters, even though I've seen that one, I'd have liked to see the chat go to town on it...
I will say that after I started following the chat, I got really, really tired of someone always saying "xyz of RASSILON" the XYZ being whatever was recently seen or talked about on screen. It was unfunny and it got old, very fast. At one point I posted a message that I rather thought that "Rassilon" should be added to the filter-ban-word list. Sadly, I don't think anyone else agreed.

Very much the same with me. Working at the drop of a hat (or not) meant it was always a gamble, but c'est la vie. I missed the majority of both Bakers and I'd have liked to see a few more Troughton stories. On the upside, first time I ever got to see The Dominators in action. The Quarks ended up being a lot cuter than I expected, like a small kid dressed up in a Napoleon hat issuing orders to his friends. Yeah... Yeah. The Noun of Rassilon is a problem I have with the programme actual. I have this image of some poor museum curator on Gallifrey who desperately wants people to find interest in Nalaore's Horologe or the armoured Shiftmen of Hugomedhoranial, but people's eyes always glaze over until the "of Rassilon" special exhibition comes up. That said, LONDON 1965 is a meme I'll treasure for ever and ever. Might even get it on a shirt. I'll be shocked if one day a spin-off doesn't crop up from it.

I actually like the kaleidoscopic images that followed their return to London, showing the jaunting round in various locales and the shock of seeing a "real" Police Box.

So do I, it's a nice little reprieve from all the jetting about space and time. First time watching, it was pretty emotional as a kid, truth be told. Soaking up all those images of them finally home, rollicking about London without a care in the world, and then pulling back to the Visualiser in the TARDIS. I was right there with the Doctor, cradled in amazement and disbelief. I remember thinking: They actually made it. They're actually... gone. Ian and Barbara are gone. They're home.
Still feels like the end of an era and I suppose in a lot of ways it is. I don't remember much of The Time Meddler from back then, so maybe I was still processing. Can definitely remember the Doctor's mention of Susan at the beginning of The Rescue striking a chord, so it wouldn't have been the first time (young, young child I was). Come to think of it, The Chase might just have been the last story I caught before The Mind of Evil started its repeat (large chunks of the Troughton era missing and all). Out of the monochrome into full colour(ish).

That was a rather interesting discussion

Nah, from one millennial to another, not very millennial at all. I only know because I too am a poor, starving researcher, on and off ("What? The starving or the research?" "Yes."). A lot of the bigger libraries have newspaper archives, largely digitised these days, that you can access more or less by request. Very difficult to see the originals, but a photocopy is an easy grab if you know where to look. Sometimes they even have ephemera from the period -- brochures, pamphlets, magazines, original tapes... Whatever came with it at the time (or was later donated). Depending on what's donated, ancient fanfiction (think stories written pre- Empire Strikes Back for Star Wars) can even end up in the archives.

Sounds like Tales from the Vault took inspiration from the ABC! Though they did keep The Celestial Toymaker Episode 4 down there for a while, so you can't say they didn't have something fun to keep them occupied Oh, good I hate sounding like a 'modern young person', as I like to think I'm a little more traditional than that (e.g. give me a book over an e-book or a DVD/CD over download any day (VHS is a little too outdated even for me though )). Ah, that would explain it then - the library in my hometown was tiny Since moving to a "big"(ger) city I've had no need to go to the library. Maybe I should take a recce for interests sake...

The Curse of Fenric Pretty good horror. Guest characters are well done, Fenric's menacing and the resolution of Ace's mother's angst is good. Bit confused as to why Millington wanted to release Fenric, but otherwise not too shabby.
Survival Classic Series goes out on a real high. The Master is back to a calm and calculating presence (we could have had this from Ainley all along?!), the Cheetah World is well depicted. The score is great too.
And thus the stream ends. What a great initiative.

Yeah, Survival certainly finally gave Ainley a rather good role as the Master, didn't it!

It's worth the wander, it's usually a really nice atmosphere. I'm a very firm believer in book-feel. I don't think you can ever replace the weight and texture of an old book. Mimic it, maybe, but never actually replace it. Oh, wow... I'm going to sound like an old fogey in a century's time ("Back in my day, we embossed letters onto the skins of trees! And we liked it better than this newfangled gubbins, yessir..."). Can provide an update on that library search too. It's currently being processed and they'll get back to me with what they've found in a fortnight(ish). Apparently, the ABC requires tokens of exchange (they wouldn't take the Narg note), but the library will do it for free. They seemed a bit bemused that I'd been asked to pay for it.

The Happiness Patrol The soundtrack is really atmospheric and love the harmonic. Death by sweets is great and liked the confusion of seeing the firing squad disperse before fondant surprise kills them. The go kart was slow and would have been quicker to walk. While having the lemonade clearly labelled as such seems like something you would do in a panto. I don't get the Doctor trusting the Kandy Man enough to free him. What is the point of the pipe people. Thankfully the Kandy Man is as creepy and brilliant as I remember. The Tardis looks great pink and the Doctor talking down the guy with a gun pointed at him is excellent.
Silver Nemesis Relaxed start then gets exciting as somebody trying to kill the Doctor and Ace. Sadly it quickly goes downhill. They seem to constantly be travelling from one place to another in the Tardis. Which even if story was good would make it hard to follow. I'm not really sure why the Cybermen are there. I guess it was them that gassed the police. Though it's not really clear. I loved seeing Cybermen killed with an arrow as a kid and it still made me smile. Now just been touched by gold is enough to kill a cyberman.
Lady Peinforte starts off great and seems to have some power as makes a potion to time travel. Sadly she just ends up as a crazy women who doesn't really have a plan. As Richard and her only have one bow between them, a limited supply of arrows and she has no magic to help out. for some reason at the end she throws herself at Nemesis and is killed or absorbed I'm not really sure. When Nemesis is assembled it doesn't seem all that interested in destroying the world and instead just does what the Doctor tells it. Is happy to talk to Ace and spill it's guts about the Doctor's secrets to Lady Peinforte but for some reason wont speak to the Nazi leader.
At least Ace and the Doctor were good.
The Greatest Show In The Galaxy My memory of this story is of the creepy clown and it doesn't disappoint. From the moment the chief clown appears in the hearse the actor is brilliant. He does so much without speaking and still creeps me out as an adult. Don't think the robot bus conductor looks that great and for some reason the cliffhangers are bad. Am puzzled why they didn't have the clown waving for part 1 and Mags changing for part 3. The bit with Mags turning into a wolf felt wrong as it's not caused by the moon. I do like the Doctor going woof at the chief clown as he passes. Didn't expect Bellboy's suicide. Love the Doctor just walking away at the end as the tent blows up.
Battlefield As a kid I nearly missed finding out if Ace drowned or not. As my Grandma was watching some soap and only remembered several minutes in to start recording Doctor Who for me.
Is great to see the Brigadier again and I like how he knocks the Doctor out at the end to go face the Destroyer. Brigadier Bambera is great and isn't overshadowed by the Brigadier which could have easily happened. The Doctor having Unit passes made me smile and I like the concern he shows for Ace. Morgaine is a great character. Though I don't like the scene where she was going to leave the pub until landlord asked about pilots body. Before curing wifes blindness. I get why as is creepy but is shown to have a sense of honour so can't see leaving without paying. Surely the future Doctor would have a different voice so spaceship shouldn't open. The battle scenes don't look that great but is still enjoyable.

Ghost Light I don't remember anything about this story. The set looks amazing and love the atmosphere. Day staff just want to be out of there. Love the house coming to life as clock strikes 6 and like that all the staff seem to be armed. Like Ace changing costume and wearing tux and a dress. Am curious why Gwendoline calls Ace Alice. Wasn't all that bothered seeing Light holding one of the maids arms. There is a lot of stuff going on and it probably needed one more part. Still I enjoyed it but no wonder I forgot it as don't find anything particularly memorable. The Curse of Fenric I like how quickly the Doctor turns the tables on the soldiers pointing guns at him and Ace. While it wouldn't change anything to have the forged papers already done before the adventure began. I like seeing the Doctor quickly whip them up. The Nazi room looks great and made me go huh. Love vampires so is great to see them. Though not sure why female vampires have really long fingernails. Is a nice twist that faith in anything repels them. More back story for Ace is great. Much as I love the scene where the Doctor breaks Ace's faith in him it's weakened by the really strong relationship they have. As it seems she gives in too quickly. Though perhaps it's understandable given all she's done this story is cause problems for the Doctor and there's the fallout from seeing her mother as a baby. Survival The Master is the best he's been for ages why couldn't Anthony Ainley play the Master like this from the start. Like how Ace ends up outside the Tardis when she teleports everyone. Not really sure how the Doctor escapes at the end but it's a good scene so I'm not too bothered. No more Doctor Who

So, I was just going to post up the Third Doctor tribute I'd made and rediscovered during his run on Twitch, but then I had a thought about it and I decided... Y'know what, this actually deserved a video of its own too. From 1963 to 1989, from Bill Hartnell to Sylvester McCoy, what a lot to celebrate. I was a kid watching them for the very first time all over again. Farewell to the Twitch Marathon, bringing twenty-six years of wonderful programming back to life in a rare and special way. That was brilliant.

Hello again,
Well, that was a fun twenty days. Having missed the Twitch marathon last year, I thought I'd give it a go.
I now have seen more Classic Who than I've seen before. The marathon has given me a fascinating insight into the different eras of Who.
It was very odd travelling twenty-six years in twenty days. From the monochrome Sixties through the groovy Seveties to the electronic Eighties Dr Who has reflected the world at the time.
Another interesting factor, is the variability of what is produced. You can go from The Caves of Androzani to The Twin Dilemma. You have military earth-bound sci-fi of Season 7 to the quirky, comedic space stories of Season 17.
One of the funny things about Twitch is you have live comments while the programme is streamed. These included musings about the stories, appreciation of Doctors, companions, monsters and cliffhangers and funny quips.
My favourite was the fate of the Borad in Timelash. Someone asked whether that meant there were two Loch Ness Monsters. No, one wag answered because the Skarasan probably ate him!
Finally, the funniest thing that happened while streaming the Twin Dilemma. The Twitch machine obviously thought it was so awful that it broken down twice and stopped streaming it. Needless to say the comments were merciless!
The Classic Who marathon has certainly cheered a gloomy January.
