The death of talent shows. The 'talent' in those shows being very subjective of course!

AI of 83 for this episode. I'm not sure the Audience Appreciation has ever been this consistent.

Just for comparison's sake, or to placate any who might wish to spin Series 11's AI's as lacking in any way, here's Doctor Who's AI since 1963. This information is taken from Doctor Who live journal.
The Classic Seasons Season (Year(s))| AI 1 (1963-4) 59% 2 (1964-5) 54% 3 (1965-6) 49% 4 (1966-7) 49% 5 (1967-8) 53% 6 (1968-9) 55% 7 (1970) 59% 8 (1971) - 9 (1972) - 10 (1972-3) - 11 (1973-4) 58% 12 (1974-5) 56% 13 (1975-6) 57% 14 (1976-7) 59% 15 (1977-8) 62% 16 (1978-9) 64% 17 (1979-80) 65% 18 (1980-1) 63% 19 (1982) - 20 (1983) 67% 21 (1984) 65% 22 (1985) 64% 23 (1986) 69% 24 (1987) 60% 25 (1988) 68% 26 (1989) 68%
The New Seasons Season (Year(s))| AI 27 (2005) 82% 28 (2006) 84% 29 (2007) 86% 30 (2008) 88% 31 (2010) 86%.
Interesting that the AI didn't reach over 60% until the latter half of Tom Baker's era. So, if 83 is this year's average, alongside ratings that are within the Top 5 shows every week, the 2018 series of Doctor Who isn't doing badly at all! This should please most people.

Interesting that the AI didn't reach over 60% until the latter half of Tom Baker's era. Obviously, because as the numbers show, Season 17 was way better than anything H&H put out in their three seasons... as was Season 24...
And 'Trial' was the most popular Classic season ever...
I take these classic-era AI numbers with a pinch of salt big enough to send a whole gestalt of Fendahl running for cover!
Series 11 is clearly doing very very well however it's measured - and so it should, great cast and very good stories.
There was much talk about the Sunday slot (and I wasn't convinced) but it has clearly worked, and I think also working (though not so much mentioned) is DW in its proper place as an autumn - winter series - that must help compared with starts in August for example.
Cold dark evening, draw the curtains, watch 'Doctor Who'. Just like the old days!

I reproduce these figures purely for the benefit of anyone who likes to use the AIs as a means of taking shots at the show's current performance, not that there's much point.

When Who Started the Index was called The Reaction Index and it was Scoring low to mid 60s = good for a Drama or Children's show (interesting I can't find any numbers for early 70s Who)
And just to show how little they should mean

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed watching that. I could have done without 'team TARDIS', 'dude' and 'rap music saves the day' but these are considerations that I'm too long-in-the-tooth to appreciate.
In many ways, this might be my favourite story of the series so far. It is scary. The renditions of the many giant spiders are excellent. I have no problem with arachnids, but these scuttling things are creepy. And yet, I appreciate The Doctor's respect of the creatures - spiders get a bad press and I like that this was readdressed. Also, that Robertson is presented as the biggest monster of all. Chris Noth's excellent playing saves the character from being too one-dimensional - after all, his is the face of inhuman business activities, devil-may-care gun-law and Donald Trump wannabe all rolled into one. The fact that he walked away at the end of it all is a double-edged sword: on one hand, as a viewer, you are gagging for him to get eaten; on the other, people like him thrive and survive, no matter how we wish otherwise. His story is not new - it has been told before and will be again, and is never less than relevant.
The characters continue to shine and to grow, especially Graham. Far more than the hapless bungler he might have been, he's really well written and poignantly played. Yaz and Ryan continue to impress too, as individuals and in relation to each other. And Jodie continues to be great.
As always, the music is the highlight for me. It has really blown me away this year. Cannot wait for the soundtrack!

I agree that the music is really amazing! (well, maybe not the rap or pop music, but the rest) It is such a breath of fresh air. I like it.

Just one thing I forgot to mention. The universal frowning that greets Ryan's job 'in a warehouse' is at-odds with the 'all inclusive' nature of the show at the moment. Maybe this will be mentioned more in the future, but ... well, we all have a living to earn!
