What are some settings and storylines that you are surprised have never done in Who with on tv, big finish or other expanded universe? They could be specific to a certain Doctor/era or just in general.
Mine: That we never had a multi Doctor body swap story, where two very opposite incarnations of the Doctor swap bodies. Think how much fun this could be with right incarnations😁
That we have never had the Doctor use the chameleon arch to become something other than human.
That the beauty and the beast parallel with 12 and Clara hasn’t been explored more.
That we haven’t had a “school reunion” style episode where the Doctor and Donna reunite and she gets her memory back.
I know Dracula appears in the land of fiction, but I am honestly surprised we have never got a story where the Doctor gets mistaken for Van Helsing and is tasked with defeating Dracula.
That 12 never had a musical episode. Come on Peter can sing and play the guitar, surely they could have come up with some kind of musical episode!
A historical with Mother Shipton! She’s a famous “soothsayer” who lived in a cave that could turn anything into stone, she would be perfect!
That we never got a story where the Doctor gets treated more like a celebrity than a god, meaning: interviews, having to hide from the press, getting chased by fans, awkward glamour photo shoots, etc. I think it could be really interesting take on the Doctor’s reputation!
That 13 hasn’t had a story set in York! It’s a a Yorkshire city filled with history such as Romans, Vikings, candy makers! There’s so much to choose from and I think it would be cool for 13, the Yorkshire Doctor to have a story set there.
That there has never been a Who Charlie and the Chocolate Factory parody episode with a sinister Willy Wonka stand in.
What are some storylines and settings you guys are surprised haven’t been done yet?

I can see why they haven’t done it as if handled poorly it could seem quite embarrassing or worse far too self indulgent but a story where the Doctor wakes up to discover that he is actually an actor for a popular science fiction series. And all his previous adventures were merely the result of writers and other actors assuming the role.
I’m imagining a scene where he comes face to face with a Dalek and is naturally startled only to see the head lift to reveal the confused operator inside.
“Everything alright?”

I genuinely love this idea! I think it could be really compelling 😊

The German unification. That hot couple of days right on the edge when everything could have gone completely violent, dark and bloody, but then ended up as a successful un-bloody revolution. One of the few we had in history. Of course Who is a British show, so I can understand that they do not go there (although I am surprised how much of Germany we see from time to time). However, I thought that setting would have been a no-brainer by now. And yes of course I am biased here.

I’m not sure to be honest. Perhaps the Fifth Doctor? Or possibly the Eighth Doctor right around his period in the Time War? Could imagine that Dalek scene carrying some extra weight if it featured him. Maybe he would actually consider embracing this new reality, a reality where all the monsters are purely human ones before changing his mind and managing to shake himself free from this ‘delusion’

That we never had a multi Doctor body swap story, where two very opposite incarnations of the Doctor swap bodies. Think how much fun this could be with right incarnations😁 I don't know, Big Finish kinda did this a few years ago when they did their "Locum Doctors" trilogy (and I still don't have the faintest idea what that title means). At this point doing a literal body swap might feel a bit repetitive. That 12 never had a musical episode. Come on Peter can sing and play the guitar, surely they could have come up with some kind of musical episode! Yeah! I mean I'm not a huge fan of musical episodes in general, but I thought for sure this was in the cards, especially as they had him play guitar more and more. I was very surprised that it never materialized. The German unification. That hot couple of days right on the edge when everything could have gone completely violent, dark and bloody, but then ended up as a successful un-bloody revolution. I’m surprised they haven’t done anything with the story of the Green Children of Woolpit Hill to be honest. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_children_of_WoolpitStrikes me as the sort of story which would fit within the Diary of River Song series or a Time Apart multiple stories style release.

It may be a bit of a stretch, but I would've liked a story in Meiji-era Japan. There's the seeds of a great historical in there as the previously isolated nation industrializes and incorporates ideas from the West.

Class actually just did a story based on that. The Soers' Ditch. I think the connection was loose but they did explain it.

'Locum' is a British medics term for a temporary Doctor who stands in for the regular one when they're away for some reason. {Spoiler} Being nobbled by the Monk isn't usually the reason!

Just thought of another another one, I don’t know why, but I am surprised that Doctor Who has never done a riff off of Rocky Horror Picture Show. It would need to be a slightly more family friendly take, but I think it could be a really fun camp and sci fi thing to reference for a musical episode particularly. I (also) don’t know why but for some reason I keep picturing Missy as the Frankenfurt stand in😈

I'm surprised that the show hasn't exploited the Time Lord's conflict with the vampires more. It seems like they're leaving a major villain race on the table. We've certainly gotten some vampire stories in the expanded universe, but one of the things I thought of when 2005 came around and we learned that Nine was the last of the Time Lords was that would be a prime time for the vampires to return, with only the Doctor left to stop them. Seems like there are some neat stories that could be told that would mine the history of ancient Gallifrey.

Something different from the Master, Daleks and Cybermen with an established history with the Doctor! Plus I bet they could get good guest stars to play the vampires! Also like you mentioned with 9, they could be good villains for him to face on big finish! Also for some reason 12 and vampires seem to go together in my head. I don’t know why, there is just something vaguely Classic horror about 12. I also wouldn’t mind 12 temporarily transformed into a vampire himself (an electric guitar playing one of course😉)

"James Alistair Bowman plays an eccentric traveller in space-and-time, whose worst struggles are studio executives constantly retooling the show beneath him and his co-stars, and a long-distance relationship with his estranged partner in San Francisco. Lately, he's taken to sitting in his blue leather peacoat at home in the dark. His colleagues are worried he's going to burn himself out. This newest season they're writing... It's a little too close to home for Bowman. He's not a soldier, but he's seen his fair share of battles. But it's all make-believe, right? A fantasy. That flight through imagination we call... Sorry, what was the name of the show again?" (And, every time someone tries to say the series' title, they cut to another scene.)

Do you think this show 8 plays the lead on would be modeled after the proposed 90s US Who reboot that was planed if the TV movie had been more successful?
