Whoa, whoa, whoa guys.... there's one VERY important word missing in this thread: streaming. Netflix also has the DVD service, and from all I've seen, they're not dropping Who from that. (And that's typically how the wife and I have been going through the original run again. Don't mind waiting a few days inbetween episodes). It's only the streaming. Netflix streaming and DVD service costs twice as much as a streaming subscription without the DVD service. I'm not signing up for the DVD service just to get Doctor Who on DVD. I wouldn't rent enough additional DVDs to make it worth the extra expense. Very well, but it's still a ton cheaper than buying all the DVDs - provided you watch and return promptly. My wife and I have both streaming and DVD services (but no Hulu or any of the other ones) so it doesn't really affect me. Now, if they canceled the DVD service too, that'd be a real problem.

My viewing schedule with my husband isn't regular enough for the DVD plan to work for us, as he's out of town a lot on business trips, and sometimes with short notice. That's why I like the convenience of streaming.

From the official Who FB page:
"Doctor Who is currently not available on Netflix in the US. However, seasons 7 – 9 are currently available on BBCAmerica.com and all seasons are available through our EST partners including Amazon Video, iTunes, Google Play and others, as well as on Blu-ray and DVD. We hope to announce a new digital partner for Doctor Who shortly!"

No idea what was wrong with their old digital partners (give or take that last I looked Amazon's selection was abysmal and at $2 to view each episode in a four- or six-parter one almost might as well just buy new DVDs if the pricing, packaging and availability disparities in US releases weren't such a put off).
I was thinking that at least I can still watch Sarah Jane and Torchwood but I can't seem to find those on Hulu today either? Let me guess, they probably even pulled all of the episodes of K-9 with the donkey ears too? I am not quite sure we are keeping the franchise fun for the kids here... ?

Torchwood, at least, is still on Netflix. And K9 is on Hulu if anybody actually cares about that.

BTW, a heads up - someone posted on facebook that ALL classic Who is going out of print in Region 1 land so North Americans - plug those gaps NOW if you can. There are quite a few OOP in R1 already but we can now add:
City of Death Happiness Patrol Dragonfire Krotons Colony in Space Sensorites Attack of the Cybermen Horns Of Nimon
The message? It's ALL going when stocks run out. Don't miss your faves.

Half the time it's cheaper I just ordered Underwater Menace from the UK and it was $10 cheaper than preordering the R1 release. I should pick up City of Death one of these days....

I guess you have a multi-region player. I don't so I can't buy them from the UK. I just looked on Amazon to see if I could get the DVD for City Of Death and it starts USED at $64.50. Insane.

Well I converted my DVD Player to be region free. I didn't buy one that was multi-region. Just search your DVD player Online. A lot can be "hacked". It was really easy to do too. And I have never looked back.

Luckily City of Death and The Krotons are the only ones that I might want, and don't already have.

I checked Amazon to see how much it would be to get some of these titles, and here is what I found. I'm listing the CHEAPEST price I saw for each title: City Of Death $64.50 Happiness Patrol $99.98 Dragonfire $99.98 Krotons $54.88 Colony In Space $100.00 The Sensorites $99.98 Attack Of The Cybermen $100.00 Horns Of Nimon $34.57
I guess I won't be getting these ever. I already have The Sensorites. I might buy Horns Of Nimon, we'll see.

Then again, I'm not sure if I could bear to part with any of my Doctor Who DVD collection.

Had to get it, being Greek mythology and all. and it has one of my favourite bits: The Doctor is surprised to see the monster instead of Romana and says "O my prophetic soul!". My dad, an English teacher, said this when he was really surprised.
Glad I got City if Death when I did.

I just heard that Nu Who Series 1-8 will be streaming on Amazon Prime starting in March. I haven't seen this confirmed, but if it's true it will be the only place you can (legally) stream them in the US. Now we have to find a place to (legally) stream the Classic Series.

It's been reported that Doctor Who the new series will be streaming on Amazon Prime in a variety of places. Personally, I'd rather have it back on Netflix. Amazon streaming doesn't work all that well for me.

Amazon streaming doesn't work all that well for me. The only streaming device that I can get to hook up to the wifi at my school is an Amazon Fire TV, so that works for me. I'm more concerned about the Classic series though.

I just got Death to the Daleks and Destiny of the Daleks in an attempt to complete my collection of Dalek stories. Unfortuanetly, I couldn't find The Chase or Planet of the Daleks for a reasonable price. I really hope the Classic series can be streamed again soon.
