I polished off my classic series DVDs recently. So glad I did since the region 1 releases seem to be drying up. There were some that I hadn't gotten around to buying yet and when I checked the prices, turns out a few were out of print. I had to search for some deals but finally snagged them all. My collection is complete.

If you're in Region 1 and there are any favourite stories you haven't snapped up yet, I wouldn't take the chance of leaving it too long. I didn't realise how much Who DVDs cost you guys though. $25 seems to be the standard price even for releases from 3 or more years ago. Here the BBC shop has them on a 3 for £15 deal ($21)...that's nuts. I did wonder why American fans I know tend to pick and choose more than UK fans. At 3 times the price, I think I would be too.

Yeah, the DVDs in Region 1 are super expensive. One of the reason I don't own too many of them.

Being in region 1, I hadn't collected them all yet for reasons of expense. The DVDs almost never go on sale on places like Amazon, either. I had a bunch of them on my wish list in order to watch the prices over Christmas because I was hoping for a sale. Sure enough, Amazon did have a sale on many BBC titles, but all the classic Who titles that were on sale were simply normalized to be $24.99, which amounted to zero savings on any of the ones I needed and in some cases it was actually an increase of a dollar or two from the pre sale price.

Actually, both Amazon and Barnes and Nobles have had sales on British TV show DVDs and soundtracks from time to time. I got a couple of classic Who DVDs from a recent B&N sale.

Amazon has had some classic Doctor Who for a while, but I don't think it's included with Prime. You have to pay for it.
I bought Caves of Androzani recently from Amazon streaming.

In the US, Amazon and Netflix have never had great selections of Classic Who for streaming. Hulu had most of the Classic Series though.

Classic stories aren't going to be available to stream any time soon. The BBC preferred model will be for you to buy to view via BBC store. I'm not even sure they have streaming rights to those stories as the concept didn't exist when the programmes were made. how would artist fees be calculated? it would be a potential nightmare for them.

That is such a shame and really short-sighted. I spent a year and a half watching streaming episodes of Doctor Who on Hulu and other sights from An Unearthly Child to Survival in order to introduce myself to all Classic Who. I would NEVER have spent the money to buy all those episodes, but now that I know what they are I have chosen to start buying some DVDs. In addition, it seems like most of the classic episodes are going out of print here in the US. So our ability to watch Classic Who in the US is slowly disappearing.

It's quite interesting that the UK and US have almost opposite issues - we can get the DVDs dirt cheap. Each and every one for under £7 yet can't stream. You guys have had, and are about to have again, the full series to stream but the DVDs are going the way of the dodo. I'm going to set a weekend aside for backing up all my DVDs as files so I can "stream" them myself from a hard drive onto the TV, I think. Will be a pain, but worth it long term. I suffer from terminal laziness for getting up and changing discs

I have no idea where to stream Classic Who these days. (Except Daily Motion at times, but we don't like to discuss that.)

I read that that is the plan, longer term with the Amazon deal but, as always, we read so much that turns out to be untrue. The DVDs are the only way youll guarantee not losing stories again but who knows if there is any propect of them being reissued in the US. Not, I suspect as standalones but perhaps as season sets, sans extras? Would be better than nothing.
