Kerr (Lib Chron 4.3) - Servalan and Avon together sounds like a great idea, but this story failed in the execution. A prologue followed by Servalan sitting at a monitor (apparently for several days) narrating what Avon is doing. This was a waste of two great talents.
Zero Hour (TW 5.07) - well executed and slightly creepy

Yeah, just wanted to say... but it’s such a Damn good story . It is. But it completely wrecked my mood back when I listened to it last summer. I was sitting in the garden. In summer. It was hot. I felt really COLD inside.
That is how effective it is.

The Mutant Phase
"That doesn't make sense."
Three separate time periods, all connected by one small butterfly effect incident. I really enjoy this type of Doctor Who story where our characters have to fight against fate. And I especially like it when it's a Fifth Doctor story with the spectre of Adric looming over it. I tell ya, the kid's a better source of drama dead than alive.
I thought it was a neat idea to return to the Dalek Invasion of Earth era, robo-men and all. It's also unusual to see the Daleks running scared of something and begging for help. I'm unsure of exactly how this ties into Dalek Empire as a whole other than giving the Emperor some more fleshed-out characterization.
Nyssa gets put up against the Daleks for the first time and acquits herself very well indeed. She's such a good match for Five. Her solo run on audio did wonders for her.
The convoluted nature of this story gives it a lot of substance and interest. And given Nick's later success with Creatures of Beauty, I think he's got a real talent for Gordian-knot storytelling.
Not in the Big Finish top tier, but a very solid release indeed.

I gave a re-listen to the wonderful Benny and Iris story, The Plague Herds of Excelis. I'm so glad that such a thing exists and it's a very good story, too. Still an excellent added bonus to have cast from Pathfinder Legends on-board also. I'll say again that I think Trevor Littledale is a great asset to Big Finish and I wish he were in more productions. Attempted to give another listen to The Genocide Machine, got about 3/4 through but ended up too sleepy to finish. I love the atmosphere of the story with the Waterworks and the rain, the first time I listened to it was pouring down rain. Still one of the first things I think of on a rainy day. One of the very first DW audios I listened to although I'd bought up at least several dozen by then with tax refund money. Must have been that Dalek on the cover.

The Time War 1- 1.2:Echoes of War-Matt Fitton
It is strange since I listened to some of the more intimate short trips and Companion Chronicles i have enjoyed listening to the TIME WAR a lot more than i did. Suppose with all the block blustering event releases this year...my mind was in shut down lol

Not so Much of Trevor in every range but a good solid character in ONE RANGE-dont want actor overkill that we get with some where familiarity breeds contempt

Haunting of Malking Place last night. This was very good, and setting and atmosphere just right to get you into a Halloween mood. I was not too keen on the resolution and the "anomaly of the week", but the banter between the characters was making up for it.

Sorry this is non-BF, but if you head over to the 'Other Audio Productions' thread fitzoliverj has spotted 3 very good audios available for free for World Audio Drama Day (which is today).

On Monday & Tuesday I listened to 'The Nightmare Fair' for the first time since it came out, and enjoyed it (it's a shame Michael Gough was unable to reprise the role but, as he passed a year or two after its release, it's not really a surprise).
In/around Guildford today I listened to 'Mission To Magnus' and it's... Fine, I guess? It was nice to hear a Sil/Ice Warrior story, but parts of it certainly feel 'dated' nowadays.

The Macros Enjoyed the story overall, the sound design & music are excellent again and I thought the ep1 cliff-hanger was most dramatic, and loved the twist at the end. {Spoiler}I'd expected Osloo to age terminally. How very 'Doctorish' that he instead engineered her reversion to babyhood so she could grow up differently. A second chance for anyone, no matter how evil. He really is 'a good man'. It's a clever title, quite 'early Who' in being the name of the aliens {Spoiler}with the twist that the Macros are us! and the timey-wimey elements also worked well. In fact I thought the only down point was Osloo, very much a 'stock villain of the week'. But on the other hand the Doctor does say to her that he's met so many despots just like her, she's nothing special. So I wonder if that 'unremarkableness' was deliberate?
