Fiesta of the Damned (Guy Adams)
Still think this would have worked better as a pure historical.

Night of the Whisper (Cavan Scott/Mark Wright)
Weird to think this was the only original Ninth Doctor audio story for quite some time. Thankfully, that’s no longer the case.

Thin Time last night and Madquake this morning. I really loved the Lovecraftian vibe of Thin Time even more this time around and I was even more positive about the surprise cameo at the end but I just don’t think Dudman’s Eleventh Doctor works as well for me in full cast settings and I just don’t know how to explain why. Nothing against him as an actor or a performer, it just hasn’t clicked with me yet. I’ve actually had some issues getting into Madquake, but I did manage to listen to it all the way through this time. I’m not sure why I had trouble with this release before because this was pretty good overall. I think what sells it for me is the character drama, particularly in the first half. I could listen to a whole episode that’s just these characters talking about their feelings after what they’ve been through and I’d be happy. Poor Marc especially. The Slitheen are fine, but they don’t make much of an impression besides one of them the therapist. I think on relistens this might be one I’ll be impatient to get through so I can get to the real meaty bits (presumably) once everyone’s reunited in the next story. That... sounds harsher than I actually feel about this story. Again, there’s some good stuff here - some pretty good stuff, as I said - it’s just maybe the Slitheen let it down just a tiny bit?

Companion Piece (John Dorney)
This made for a fun little side step in the Ravenous series.

I’d imagine if it had been a two parter we’d have hypothetically gotten more appearances from other companions as the Nine continues to collect and add them.

I was doing a relisten of bits of Dalek Universe and Avalon and I just kind of slid into The Juggernauts. A couple of random observations: - It has its own distinctive flavour, but its curious coming back to the Mechonoids after the sheer mayhem they perpetrate in "The House of Kingdom". There's always a deliberate sense of physicality to them in the audios. They sound quite distinctive, even outside of their electronic patter.
- Lethe has just a hint of the Vulcan colony about it. The idea that the settlement is self-sustaining and exists beyond what we see in the immediate.
- Mel's connection to the colony bears up to scrutiny. She really does feel connected to Jeff, Sonali and others. Even if it isn't her home, in a different lifetime it could've been.

Surprised they didn’t record her role when she did the further vol 1

I gave The Juggernauts another listen yesterday, a really good story.

The Abandoned (Nigel Fairs/Louise Jameson)
Completely and utterly insane. Really needed someone to step in to tell them to rein it in a bit.

The Black Hole.
I know this one is highly regarded but I've never been able to finish it, mainly due to Deborah Watling sounding like an old lady (which she was, and it is just how it is) and The Monk, who doesn't do much for me as a character.
Let's see if I can make it through today.

The BBV CD recording of Homeland is a pain in the ass for segmented listening sessions, because it only has 1 track!

The Forbidden Time (David Lock)
The ending is still a bit of a cop out but this is a very unique story for the Second Doctor in my opinion. And one that’s perfectly suited for the black and white era of his incarnation.

The Whispering Forest (Stephen Cole)
Thought I’d give this another go. But it’s just so dull. So very dull.
