Live on the BBC at half time during the Man United vs Everton FA Cup game, for some reason. So you can watch what should be an awful game of football, going by both sides this season, but with some good news in the middle Should be circa 6pm GMT.

This is certainly unexpected. Guess filming must start soon.

Finally some good news, rather smart scheduling too. FA Cup semi-finale bound to get a large share of viewers.

Looks like it isn't just Doctor Who the BBC feels needs an extra push I'd suggest quite the opposite, they're putting the news at a time the maximum amount of viewers will see it.

Given the change over of showrunners and potentially Doctors (it will be Capladi's fourth year in the role, after all), I do wonder if the new companion will be limited to the 2017 series, perhaps a famous face to add to the hype?

So does this mean the new companion is Gary Linneker?

I think it may be a well-enough known fae in the UK but not elsewhere. Jenna, for one, wasn't known worldwide at all but she'd been a big part of Emmerdale and Waterloo Road, two popular shows before being cast so she was well known to UK evening audiences. I think that's about as "famous" as we'll get this time too. The days of getting a Catherine Tate, who can launch shows with her own name, went out with the licence fee freezes.

Very sad that the BBC have announced an announcement for the next DW companion.

Very sad that the BBC have announced an announcement for the next DW companion. I agree. I hate announcements of announcements. At least they didn't announce yesterday's announcement in advance, only to have it be the announcement of Saturdays announcement. That would just be silly. They're actually running a news story on the BBC website about the fact there will be an announcement. It just makes me cringe. Hope it's less embarrassing than the Peter Capaldi malarkey, I think that live show probably did more to damage Doctor Who than anything else. How to make it really uncool to watch this show in one easy step.

Especially stupid as the companion might not appear until Christmas, or even later.

But if she's about to be visible filming then it'd be stupid not to announce her beforehand.

I think it's all a fun bit of tease, personally and Doctor Who needs that push after last year.

Why can't they just tell us her name? Or hold a press conference?
Sometimes the BBC these days makes the mistake of acting as though Doctor Who is a huge deal and expects everyone else to feel the same.
Promoting the show is fine, but you have to earn the public's respect, not grandstand in front of them how much better than every other show you think Doctor Who is. And that's how this will come across, it's just arrogant to think that any of the audience at that time will be at all interested.
That said, I'm really hoping the announcement is something amazing that justifies the decision. I'm still feeling humiliated by the fiasco that was Doctor Who Live though so I don't hold out much hope.

It'll probably just be Gary Linekar interviewing Peter Capaldi for a couple of minutes followed by him announcing the name of the new companion.

I think it's all a fun bit of tease, personally and Doctor Who needs that push after last year. 100%. We've had Clara for 4 years, so this isn't a regular event to have a new companion. It's great that its getting a bit of attention from the Beeb and hopefully that'll continue when the show comes back. I don't understand the moaning - if you'd rather just find it out out in a news story then just wait - it will be one as soon as the announcement is made. The rest of us can just enjoy the pageantry.
