We have the wonderful thread about being the nu who show runner, but what would you do if you got to be the creative head of Big Finish. Please be respectful and happy 1st Anniversary!!!

Um. I actually wouldn't do very much different?? Like other than a couple passion projects of my own (bringing in things like Destrii and new companions etc) that I might bring to the table, I think I'd keep it mostly the same, at least for the first couple of years. BF does a pretty good job of keeping all the balls in the air.

Assuming that I have a reasonably flexible budget, I would:
License Sarah Jane Adventures and start doing companion chronicles style stories
Start prepping a Five and Ten boxed set for the 60th Anniversary (it's never too early to start working on a good script. Or to schedule David Tennant)
Commission Tales of Tenzalore boxed sets and book Matt Smith and Kayvan Novak as Handles
Mr. and Mrs. Smith featuring Mickey and Martha
Book Billie Piper and John Barrowman way in advance for a Tenth Doctor boxed set
Four and Adric stories
Clara Oswald: The Impossible Girl sets chronicling her encounters with each Doctor that we got glimpses of in "The Name of The Doctor"
Dalek Empire: The Time War
Gallifrey: The Time War
Robert Shearman
A Torchwood vs. Classic Who Monsters boxed set - There are some Who monsters that would fit the Torchwood tone very nicely. A Ianto/Cybermen story that takes place after "Cyberwoman" has a lot of potential.
Begin producing Judge Dredd audios again
A novel adaptation of Goth Opera
These are dream projects and I suspect some of them are likely going to happen someday. Frankly, I would stay the course on the projects that are already going. I'm very happy with the quality of the output and the diversity of interesting projects.

Maybe a better way of putting it is what would be your Passion Projects for Big Finish To Do? Could We maybe change the title to Dream Big Finish Passion Projects mod? Thanks.

A few little things I'd try to get:
Companion Chronicles tribute box set: * Katy Manning and Richard Franklin doing a story with the Doctor and the Brig * Tom Baker doing a story with Sarah Jane and Harry * Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton doing a story with the Master * Colin Baker doing a story with Evelyn
Early Adventures first encounter of the Doctor with the Cybermen. It wasn't The Tenth Planet as the Doctor clearly recognized Mondas and knew what was coming. I like the idea that in his first encounter, it is Steven and Vicki who already know all about the Cybermen and have to teach the Doctor.
Companion Chronicles set featuring the Cybermen, and teaming several companions from different eras of the program, who are of the right future period. Steven, Zoe, Nyssa, and Ace, for example. They might go through the whole story without discovering that the others traveled with the Doctor.
4DA season with Matthew Waterhouse
10DA set with Freema Agyeman
A Main Range trilogy with 5, 6, & 7 but tied together by having a common Companion (Jo Grant, Peri, Leela, and Romana are possibilities)
Try to get scripts from Chris Boucher
Seek a license for Firefly or a Babylon 5 spinoff
More Omega Factor
Anything with David Warner

I would give all thirteen Doctors their own monthly range, and I would arrange for Eccleston and any other Doctors who refuse to do it to be kidnapped. It is probably for the best that I am not the head of Big Finish.

Post Haste: Get William Russell booked as often as possible. Produce the next several seasons of Early Adventures, as many Companion Chronicles as I can with him, and a half dozen or so Short Trips. Oh yes, and also audio adaptations of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Venusian Lullaby, and The Plotters in the EA format.
Remove narration as a requirement for the EA's. Writers to use narration or not as the needs of the story suit them.
Actively work to get Jackie Lane to do anything from a Short Trips to a CC to an EA depending on her level of comfortability.
Reinstitute the Companion Chronicles as a monthly range and strive for a more even balance of companions across all of the Doctors with a priority towards those who have not yet done a CC.
An E-Space box set followed by a 4th Doctor and Adric season.
Continue adapting the Virgin MA's and NA's. Once exhausted, move on to BBC PDA's and EDA's.
Do more Doctor/Companion mixup stories.
Do a series of mini-series along the lines of BF's original Sarah Jane adventures and show various companions having adventures without the Doctor after they were dropped off back on Earth.
A Polly first Doctor CC as well as a Polly and Ben EA with Peter Purves playing the Doctor.
License Babylon 5 and produce Babylon 5 audio plays.
Overtly recognize season 6B and do at least one Short Trips, CC, and EA set in that era.
Do a Rocket Men story with every Doctor.
Do the odd six-parter in the EA's and 3DA's as long as the story warrants it.
I'm sure there's more, but it's all that I can think of at 2:40 AM.

I'd commission the Survivors/Iris Wildthyme crossover you didn't know you needed!

Hire Tim Bradley & let him adapt his three brilliant Fifth Doctor, Nyssa & Billy stories.
Adapt more missing adventures novels, Goth Opera, Man In The Velvet Mask, Shadow Of Weng Chiang.

I'd establish Blake's 7 Tales - stories from the B7 universe in a CC/LC style. I'd consider a reboot of the series. I'd certainly try and get Boucher back. A yearly "Unbound" Boxset assuming the ideas can remain vibrant. Early Adventures will become a nine month series, three stories each Doctor. Tales from the Time War (what it says on the box). Jago and Litefoot and War - set after he met ten and eleven, as a last gambit of the Moment to prevent him from making a mistake. More Classics - Dune if I could pull it, Time Machine, Alan Quatermaine....

- Pester Christopher Eccleston's agent to put me through to him and recite what Eccleston said in the latest interview as proof he wants to return to the role. Then try to persuade Christopher Eccleston to join Big Finish. If he refuses, post scripts through his door written by whichever Big Finish writers are available/not too busy proving the kind of stuff Big Finish could do with the ninth Doctor.
- Book David Tennant to record some new 10th Doctor Adventures audios sixteen months in advance. Bring back Catherine Tate as Donna Noble again and Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott for all three audios for volume two.
- It would probably be too soon anyway but I would ask Matt Smith if he's ready to do any Big Finish yet. If so, I would record some 11th Doctor Adventures audios with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill. Three audios for volume one, like 10DA released separately and together in a limited edition set.
- If all new series Doctors are onboard, record a multi-Doctor adventure starring John Hurt, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith.
- Announce a new spinoff featuring Jenny from the Doctor's Daughter called 'Jenny Who', about Jenny searching across space for her father - like a sort of Doctor Who version of the kids' cartoon Sonic Underground.
- Announce Sarah Jane Adventures Companion Chronicles starring the entire Bannerman Road Gang including Maria. The first stories would be the ones that were going to happen for Series 5 before Elisabeth Sladen's tragic passing.
- Bring the 4DAs and eighth Doctor audios into the main range.
- Re-release OOP Big Finish main range audios as box sets.

I'd seek the license for either 'Dune' or 'V', a serious sci-fi epic.
I'd issue limited edition CD reprints of the most popular stories in the MR first 50.
And I'd call an emergency meeting with all the head honchos at BF to try and find the answer to the Coalition bit of Doom Coalition.

Well
1) Allowing for both more all encompassing subscription options and purchaser designed subscription options 2) Re-design the website, adding features to support the above and to make the stories a lot information richer, more photos, and to subsume the content of the Big Finish Companion books into the website and for much of this rich content to be available only to current subscription holders. 3) Make more download and streaming options available, so that FLAC is available and people can listen to purchased stories direct from the website. 4) provide an option to have peoples purchases automatically uploaded (backed up) to their Amazon S3/Dropbox account 5) provide a software client (for PC, Mac and Linux) and apps for phones and tablets that allows people to listen to, sort through their library of purchased audios,m organise anyway they want, and allow full interaction with the rich media website and its content, imagine Steam but for audio drama. 6) Make the "Steam" platform available to other audiobook and drama producers, again much like Steam is
7) And on a somewhat different note, produce a set of stories, showing the rise and fall of the cybermen, from their tombs being disturbed, through the wars and devastation this causes, through human kind getting the upper hand, ending with the cybermen retreating to new tombs - to take place over several hundred years, each story to be complete and able to stand alone in own right, no direct continuity between the stories accept the overall arc, some stories to involve various Doctor incarnations.

Options 4, 5 and 6 how would they be cost effective for BF I agree they provide maximum choice for the customer but would the big boys provide all those options and functionality for a reasonable price to the company?
Nick Briggs already bemoans the loss of income to Amazon on an almost monthly basis.

Well cost in setting it up, and minimal cost in doing the initial upload, after that sending to people's S3 account etc can be done all inside the cloud and incur no additional costs.
As to why isn't already done, well the setup costs and because someone has to have the idea and then deliver it.

Well if i was head of Big Finish,
In regards to Doctor Who, I'd go back to having the booklets state where the stories fit in the Doctors Timeline (between which adventures did this story happen and such)
Also I'd have them adapt Blood Harvest and Goth Opera as the next set of Novel Adaptions in the way they did the first two limited editions.

First thing I would do is get to the bottom of why the BF website can accept people's money one way but not another, before there is more bemoaning to do about Amazon.
I think I would put more priority on Dark Shadows and Gallifrey. Easier said than done I'm sure but both are brilliant ranges that are quiet too often.
I would put more "oomph" into the Time War. Full tilt timey-wimey.
While I was having David Tennant come to the studio I would try to arrange for more stories with him since the 10DAs might be the most important New Series range at the moment. I don't think it would be a bad idea at all if the 10DAs were twice yearly.
Also I would try to create a New Series variety range where they could test the waters for different ideas while allowing people to cross more items off their wish lists. For example the first season might have stories with Martha & Mickey, SJA kids, Vastra & Jenny, Rory and Amy, The Doctor's Daughter, and The Next Doctor.
