Shows a lot of potential and some of the material could be cut out and you would lose nothing. Needed another draft and less flashbacks. Probably a 4/10. I liked the flashback where Grant was in high school, reminded me of Man of Steel where a young Clark is having trouble adjusting to his developing abilities. You don't master them overnight after all.

I finally saw it and I really enjoyed it. An hour of solid superhero fun. A wonderful pastiche to one of my favorite genres with the very nice twist of the secret identity being a nanny, because if there's one thing I would genuinely love to see in comics it's single parent superheroes. A solid effort. 7/10. Could have used an extra 10 or 20 minutes of running time just to pad out the story and add some character moments for the guest cast. I'm hoping that we see these two back at some point in some form, whether from Titan, BF, DWM, or the show itself.

Titan are doing a short run of Ghost Stories, first released digitally, likely collected in a trade at some point in the future.

I watched it again today and was struck by how briskly it moves. I also think there was more shadow to it than has been discussed. The 12th Doctor is in a pretty dark place. So much so that he brings in someone, rebuilds them or something, who knew River to keep him company and that someone acts as the Doctor's what...valet? After 50 plus years and that is something new.

As commercial pressure bear more and more on the UK TV market, Christmas TV from commercial providers will fall in quality, advertising time on TV post Christmas Eve is very cheap, there is no little incentive (commercially) for ITV to attract big audiences on Christmas day, best to save the big draws for times when they can get good money for the advert slots. Such a shame that ITV can't put anything decent and homegrown on at Christmas. Not that you would watch it.

Not that you would watch it. Why would I watch crap? You really do take forum trolling to performance art levels Paul.

Not that you would watch it. Why would I watch crap? If you insist on talking it, then watching it should be no bother.

Hmm they liked it as much as Husbands of River Song but less than Call the Midwife. Plus the ratings for it were very poor compared to the shows before and after it. Thing is to me all this screams complacent average DW. Fine for a show at the top of it's game, but not what we needed to reinvigorate the show and start building excitement for Series 10. It's a funny old episode because I want to enjoy it a lot more than I actually do. It was competently cast, competently directed, competently written and altogether competently produced, but it just seems to leave me feeling "meh". It's odd. Speaking of odd, how is it that Moffat is probably the first person to have a joke about the Doctor bringing snacks to a stakeout after 53 years? You'd think this is a gag right at home in Pat or Tom's era.

Maybe it's because of Moffat's "slice of life" approach to the Doctor's travels. For him, this is just another invasion attempt. I'd almost call him complacent if he wasn't doing such a good job this episode.

Not that you would watch it. Why would I watch crap? Why would you spend time commenting on a thread about something you're determined not to watch and to hate regardless?

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Courtesy of our national broadcaster, I was able to watch all three of Mr Capaldi's Christmas specials in a row. Three very different stories but very similar in style and quality: I would find it hard to pick between the three of them for a favourite, although I would love a return visit from Shona (Last Christmas).
I also just checked imdb: Mysterio currently has a rating of 7.7 (1016 votes), Husbands is at 8.6 (2179 votes), Last is at 8.4 (2868 votes). For a comparison by ranking (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/eprate?ref_=ttep_sa_2), on either side of Mysterio we have The Beast Below and The Unquiet Dead (there's also the prequel to A Good Man Goes To War but it's a minisode so I don't count it - if you do, that's where it goes); on either side of Last Christmas we have Under The Lake and Father's Day; and Husbands is sandwiched between Flesh And Stone and A Christmas Carol. And that's just based around New Series episodes - Fear Her is the lowest at 6.2 while Blink reigns supreme at 9.8.
(On a sidenote, it's a bit humbling to look at classic episodes (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056751/eprate): the ratings are a bit lower and there are very few votes for them (An Unearthly Child Episode 1 has 890, The Five Doctors has 882, then in third is The Cave Of Skulls with 570: the lowest number of votes go to two episodes apiece for The Macra Terror and The Wheel In Space with 71 ratings)

True, but that's more of a full camp out than just a regular stakeout like in Mysterio, and 3's wine and cheese is more of a full meal than a pack of store bought sushi (which was a nice touch on Moffat's part.)
