Alien Heart started off slowly but the pace picked up in the second part and we ended up with a very good Fifth Doctor and Nyssa story. It's not a pairing that we get to hear that much of, but without the longer running time of a normal Main Range adventure the uncrowded TARDIS makes life easier, and Stephen Cole gives the Doctor and Nyssa plenty to do once they are separated. We did get a few two-part Fifth Doctor stories on the TV so this 'new' format for the MR doesn't seem out of place. My judgement for this story in one word; exciting. 8/10
Dalek Soul was just brilliant. A very engaging story with a lovely twist. I loved it. Guy Adams done wonders with the script. It had everything I like in a Doctor Who story, as well as being brilliantly acted by Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton. I'd say Dalek Soul is my favourite Doctor Who story of the year so far. I really would have to give it 10/10.
Is this two separate two-part stories or just a different type of four-part story? Take your pick, either way works. But it was a damn good release and very entertaining. Vortex Ice / Cortex Fire has a lot to live up to next month!

It reminds me a little of the structure of 2015's TV series of Doctor Who - a two part story, where part two was very different to the style of the opener. Here we have two two-parters, both connected, but both telling their own story. I like it.

Well now, I really did enjoy that quite a bit (again).
I love how it was arranged; two very closely connected stories that might as well be one story divided into two rather different parts.
I agree that the second half was stronger than the first, but hey. (But, yes, another stereotypical stupidly aggressive moron character to move the plot along).
And, it doesn't detract from the story if you work the twist out in advance...

I think being two-parters might have made both stories seem slightly rushed in places, but I think these made remarkably good use of the two-story format - it was anything but gimmicky. I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens next with it. I loved the "ten planets" high-stakes opening and it added to the sense that I was listening to a really interesting story. Guy Adams did a remarkable job of keeping me pointing my suspicions in the wrong direction which was highly intriguing - at more than one point I was about sure some kind of time loop was going on. Really enjoyed the lead performances, too - we got some interesting departures but with lots of subtlety and that too helped make the ending into a big surprise. (Somehow Peter in a threatening mode made me think of William Shatner in "Mirror, Mirror" or something, that probably helped me not to take him too seriously, lol). Well done, Big Finish!

Just listened to the first disc. The "Dalek voices by Nick Briggs" printed on the disc rather gives away one of the twists.
Not having listened to the second disc I can't say for sure but given that Alien Heart ends on a cliffhanger and features Daleks, it begs the question why this was marketed as 2 x 2 parters in the first place, since it obviously isn't (to some extent at least)
Gripes aside, I enjoyed Alien Heart itself

And the two parts were written by two different people. They're more like the Season 9 two parters from what I can tell. Identifiably different stories but the second a consequence of the first's event (The Ashildr/Me stories is the best example)

Let's face it, the two parts/stories come as one package - we can't buy one without buying the other - so I see only positives about them both having links with one another.

And the two parts were written by two different people. They're more like the Season 9 two parters from what I can tell. Identifiably different stories but the second a consequence of the first's event (The Ashildr/Me stories is the best example) Coming from the classic era, the structure reminded me of 'Frontier in Space' / 'Planet of the Daleks', including the Daleks being revealed as the controlling force behind the visible villains of the first story towards its end. Ogrons then, 'cell spiders' now, but really the Daleks both times. And both times, the second story follows the first with a cliff-hanger and plot link to move the Doctor and companion between the stories, but from then on they are independent adventures, linked only by the Doctor, companion and Daleks. Perhaps because of this memory, although I arrived at this release spoiler-free, I was half-expecting the Daleks to show up during 'Alien Heart' and wasn't that surprised when they did. The ten ruined worlds indicated a very powerful enemy and the green slime coming off the 'cell spiders' was another clue. But I was left kicking myself for not spotting the giveaway, that oh-so-familiar Dalek rhythm of the alien heart! ... dum, da dum, da dum ... Personally, I was very pleased to find a (tenuous) four-parter rather than two unrelated stories and I'm looking forward to the next two releases even more. (With hindsight, the resonance between the story titles in each of the three releases should have told us they were pairs of related stories. I thought it was just artistic titling!)

I had no idea there were also going to be Daleks in the first story so I actually was surprised.

I had no idea there were also going to be Daleks in the first story so I actually was surprised. I would have been except for the vague feeling of similarities that I referred to in the previous post. And, on a much more prosaic level, the Daleks are THE enemy so if you're going to have them as guest villains they would probably be involved in the whole release, not just part of it. (Daleks have a severe superiority complex and are easily provoked, they would hate not to be top of the bill! )

Fantastic audio drama, tense, suspenseful, terrifying superbly acted, well done Stephen Cole & Guy Adams for writing this awesome audio drama.
The two loosely linked stories worked wonders & maintained my interest throughout, Peter Davison does evil malevolence brilliantly & Sarah Sutton delivered one of her best performances as Nyssa.
I rate this a 9/10

So ... we know that the real Doctor and Nyssa somehow escaped after the second episode of Alien Heart and after they'd been duplicated, but nowhere are we told how this happened.
Or did I miss something?

Or did I miss something? Andrew There are 'flashbacks' to their escape in some of the recordings played to "Nyssa" by the rebel leader.
