I love the cover for this release, it's absolutely one of my favourites.
The stories sound really interesting too, but how do people feel about the (what I'm assuming is) two-part split format? I'm a bit wary myself after the 4DAs.

This and the new J&L cover are both stunning, IMHO (plus I'm a pushover for well-rounded use of secondary colors even when used conservatively, having been strongly motivated to purchase And You Will Obey Me because it was green - cue Star Trek Aldebaran whisky clip, lol). The J&L cover is truly a triumph for Tom. Do we know yet who did the MR artwork? They need kudos too. I'm not put off by the format, I think of it as basically the same format as with multiple authors on boxsets, which seems to have worked very well with many releases.

I don't mind it. It's a nice shakeup - particularly after the frequency of the multi-Doctor triologies which to me, were at the risk of losing their uniquness. I never minded the Fourth Doctor Adventures format and it made sense to do the most popular original Doctor in such a format for non-fans and newcommers more used to the revival pacing and to do now with the new series of the revival.

Yeah, true. As long as they don't feel truncated, I'm sure it'll be fine. The J&L cover is truly a triumph for Tom. Do we know yet who did the MR artwork? They need kudos too. Simon Holub is the artist in question. What's also interesting is that the Dalek imagery is credited to This Planet Earth, a prop manufacturer similar to Imagineering from the 1980s, I think those might be real Daleks from a photoshoot rather than digital mock-ups. Browsing the website, they also do full replicas of various other Daleks (including the Amicus film Daleks), TARDISes, Ice Warriors, Weeping Angels and assorted parts from various Cybermen. Squee~ I really, really want to see a story with a Black, Red and Gold Dalek working together as a triumvirate over some hugely dangerous and deeply insidious operation. Oh, screw it. I just want a full-sized Dalek now. The commander from The Daleks' Master Plan looks pretty dapper. Although, the Death to the Daleks drone looks awfully shiny...

I think one of the main drawing factors of this cover is that, barring The Wrong Doctors, it is the only Main Range title, nee only Big Finish title I can find (having flicked through several ranges' worth of covers) to have the same Doctor appear twice in the one image! Also, I feel the choice of green and purples as the highlight colours really pull the viewer in. I mean, let's face it, this is a truly fantastic cover! I'm wondering if the dual Doctor appearance is supposed to be somewhat 'symbolic', as it were, representing the fact there are two separate stories contained in the one release? I guess we'll see when the covers go up for Vortex Ice/Cortex Fire and Shadow Planet/World Apart - I think it would be a nice little visual motif to accompany the uniqueness of this trilogy. Afterthought: I guess I'm looking forward to hearing the stories as well However, as an Aussie listener, it's much cheaper for me to wait until the end of the year to get a 'retro' sub, rather than paying silly postage money to get the 'pre-order', so I'll just have to wait...

Another Dalek story with Nyssa and the Fifth Doctor? Big Finish is running out of ideas again?

Another Dalek story with Nyssa and the Fifth Doctor? Big Finish is running out of ideas again? In general I'm tiring of the constant use of Nyssa. The character is great and Sarah Sutton puts in fantastic performances, but it'd be nice for at least one year to explore other companions of the Fifth Doctor, like Turlough or Tegan and Turlough.

Agreed. Time to give someone else a go Cheers Tony Since 2008 Nyssa has been in at least three consecutive stories each year. She's had several anthology releases with the Fifth Doctor. My concern is that it'll get to a point where writers will end up writing for her because she's there, not because there is a genuinely interesting story to tell with her. The 2014 trilogy is a prime example of this. For most of the time she's generic, albeit smarter companion. That's not the worst thing about that trilogy, but done well it could have explored how she handled the new dynamic in the TARDIS. By the end of the Older Nyssa arc, I was relieved it was over because it'd gone on for five trilogies worth of story.

Someone asked on FB the other day why the Doctor appears twice BF response it was because they considered them separate stories though they may be loosely linked.

The constant use of companions is one reason why I have been resistant to subscribing to the MR for so long. I enjoy picking and choosing which older titles to get so I can mix it up and don't get Companion Apathy (although it was getting close with Leela). Cheers Tony

As a one-off for this year's multi-Doctor sequence, two-parters are something different and different is good if the stories are good. (And I expect they will be.)
BUT I'd be much less relaxed if I thought this was 'focus group' testing of two-part stories for Five, Six and Seven with the eventual aim of this being the standard format once the move to box sets happens. And what's more, a focus group where we are paying to be part of the group!!
For me, 'Doctor Who' works best in the traditional longer formats, with four-parters usually being the happy medium between enough time for plot and character development and a story running out of steam. But with the right story, six-parters work superbly: The Ghosts of Gralstead and The Foe From The Future are two of my favourites and it's a rare two-parter that can leave such strong impressions.

Cheers Tony Perhaps there's an element of loyalty to those companion actors who were there from the start of Big Finish? (Or the start of their Doctor with BF in Leela's case.) Personally, I don't think it's possible to have too much Leela, not only is Louise Jameson always excellent, the Doctor's most interesting companions are those with strong personalities and different skills and/or world views. Leela, Turlough, Romana, Steven, Jamie, Donna, for example. None of which stops Jo being my favourite companion, just because.

I have to admit, this trilogy along with Time in Office were what convinced me to resub just because of how intrigued I am by them.
