The thing is as a kid the Cybermen scared the bejesus out of me in a way the Daleks never did. And much as I love modern Who their cybermen just...don't. BF gets Cybermen right, they are bloody terrifying. That "oh hell!" feeling everyone talks about after watching "Blink"? The Cybermen did that for me, and now they don't. The TV show needs to sit down and work out where the Cybermen actually fit and then work stories around that.

The TV show needs to sit down and work out where the Cybermen actually fit and then work stories around that. Daleks are terrifying because they are gleeful killers. They revel in the destruction they cause, it makes them proud to be a Dalek, but it's never enough. There's always that itch at the back of their brain matter that something, somewhere dares to challenge the singular existence of the Dalek race and that is why they must be destroyed. It's only right that they alone survive. The extermination of such lower races is a natural function of the universe. Cybermen on the other hand are much more insidious, there's something a great deal more tragic about them and far more tempting. They are a species who in their desperation devoted their entire society to the preservation of life, but it is a cold and mechanical existence through which they continue. Cold. Bleak. Barren. Hollow. And yet, a Cyberman will never know heartbreak, will never suffer from injustice, will never feel pain at loss or grief. You are invincible, you have triumphed over life and all that it cost was who you were. All those experiences from your first birthday to your first love to your first tragedy to your first triumph. It's a microcosm, such a small price to pay right? The Cybermen would think so. You owe it to them to comply, they are saving you from horrors you try your entire life to escape from. That is why they are so terrifying. They believe they're helping you and there are days when sometimes you want to accept that "help". There are some times in your life, when you want to become a Cyberman.

And joy. Despite all that fearful temptation, the wonders of life still prevail against the machine-men.

They might be doing something with the Cybermen like what they did with the Daleks in Asylum and The Magician's Apprentice/TheWitch's Familiar. They could bring back a bunch of different Cyber-models and have them all together for some reason.

I think having the Doctor (any Doctor) arrive on Earth and finding it cybered, but not in an action movie way, more like The Man in the High Castle/SS-GB/Spare Parts would be fascinating.

Ooh, yes, particularly if that's an immutable part of far future history that can't be circumvented. A period where humanity has yet to bounce back and the planet is still a cattle farm.

Or alternate history in a parallel world where The Doctor was never around to stop them. It's an interesting idea, maybe a version of The Invasion where the first transporter fleet obliterated the rocket base before they had the opportunity to launch their missiles or the Doctor and Vaughn were killed when the Cyber-Planner was destroyed. All the same, I would still like a period, let's say something like the 74th century, where Earth has been subjugated by them. Something analogous to the idea of the xenomorphs assuming control over the Earth in the Aliens novels.

It would be great to see The Doctor go Time Lord Victorious again and try to alter history so the scary Cyber history never happens, but by doing so he creates an even more horrifying future.

One in which the Cybermen are peaceful, but humanity have been wiped out long before time?

Ah, but now Gallifrey is back, so he probably has to watch himself a bit more closely now. His TARDIS still isn't "jail broken".

One in which the Cybermen are peaceful, but humanity have been wiped out long before time? Yeah, rather than creating a better world it makes the Cybermen more determined to convert all of humanity.
