Another blow-by-blow as I watch:
Oh, bless. This crew continues to make me crack a smile. Figures that the Doctor would have found a way around the fluid link after The Daleks. There's something... different about this episode's soundtrack. A little more operatic than normal, I'm rather liking it. Huh, sonic screwdriver makes a decent force lance. Oh, that's not good... "Great we rescued a racist." "Excuse me?" HA. Ah, sorry. That scene for the spacewalk was brilliant. Marvellous bit of storytelling. Beautifully heroic of the Doctor, stellar acting from Capaldi too. Ah, the enemy isn't a living being. It's a system. And a recognition of its human cost. HELL YES. This is what I'm talking about. A chance to explore some lasting consequences. I haven't been excited about an upcoming story like this for ages, it's great!

Best episode of the series for so far for me. Funny, exciting, dramatic and with quite the cliffhanger. Blows the socks off most of what we got last series.

That was dark, especially when Bill got "zombified". That should have been a sign that there was some way back though.

Excellent episode, dark gritty & mature this is my type of Doctor Who episode (zombies in space) & I'm glad there wasn't a syrupy ending tagged on like last weeks Knock Knock.
Good performances from the cast especially Peter Capaldi & Jamie Matheson who is surely fast becoming the new series best writer. Only quibble it needed another 10 minutes & I'd like to seen that attack in space more to see what led to the Doctor saving Bill giving her his helmet, however that's only my own greedy personal quibble, i loved this episode.
I have to rate this a 9/10

Well, that's another one my boy won't be watching for a few years.
Another good episode, this series (and Tardis team) is shaping up to be Capaldi's best. A great use of casual racism (or just a misunderstanding) from a different viewpoint.
Loving this series so far and just hope it doesn't dip when Missy/the Master turns up.
Cheers
Tony

Doctor Who was the fourth most viewed Saturday night TV programme, with 3.57 million, a series low. A quiz show called Pointless, Britain's Got Talent and The Eurovision Song Contest all beat it. This excellent new series of Doctor Who isn't really setting the world on fire, is it? Great, consistent time slot, lots of promotion and a seemingly popular TARDIS team.

And, at this point, it'll probably be going down for the coming weeks, which is slightly worrying.

Eurovision and BGT are juggernauts, Who was never going to beat them. It is a bit worrying that it lost to Pointless though (was that even a new episode, most of the time they're just repeats).

Of all time.

Well, that's another one my boy won't be watching for a few years. He'll love it when he does. I think I was eight when I saw Revelation of the Daleks. Another good episode, this series (and Tardis team) is shaping up to be Capaldi's best. A great use of casual racism (or just a misunderstanding) from a different viewpoint. And one that you'd expect to see a bit more often in sci-fi. One of my absolute favourite moments (because it's wonderfully set up) is from a short story where a human character is standing up for human values in a totally alien society and the delegate -- who's been pretty cordial up until then -- turns around and snaps very, very angrily:

Of course, I appreciate that, but I can't understand why Who's ratings are actually declining. I'd say the time slot negates (to a large extent) any idea that people are outside in the 'sunshine', and Doctor Who is currently so good! On the bright side, we still have seven episodes left, a Christmas special and at least one series under the eye of Chris Chibnall to enjoy.

Not sure what I thought of that, it was a certainly a well made episode-good pacing, superb characterization for the leads, very tense and atmospheric direction and a nice balance between scares and humour...but to be honest it just left me a bit cold, a bit talky/preacy in parts...might have to rewatch it to grade it... That ending though...surely it won't be a permanent thing? On the other hand, so glad to see the sonic destroyed again...I certainly hope that is more permanent... They can't seriously make the Sonic Screwdriver being destroyed permanent now given we know he has a collection of them in his university office.

That's true Maybe they could go the other way and have the Doctor build a sonic guitar to compensate.

Really? Who do you think it is? {Spoiler} It's the First Doctor. Trust me on this. If I'm wrong, I'll send you my Tom Baker socks! Why? Why that choice? What's the motivation? (Oh, and I've changed my mind about the political subtext of the episode. Clearly the so-called capitalist system is actually a statist left-wing affair, as it confiscates the Doctor's private property (atmosphere) for the dubious good of the municipality.)

I actually had a hard time watching during the airlock scene. They set the horror of that up so well with the opening lecture. Everything came together so perfectly in this episode. I don't think it needed that extra 10 min. It was great.
