Why? Why that choice? What's the motivation? I don't know the motivation, that will be explained further along the line. But I'm increasingly convinced! I'm really not. It would be suicidal for a Time Lord to keep his first incarnation locked up in a vault. The Doctor would never do that to any previous incarnation bar maybe War.

Excellent episode, dark gritty & mature this is my type of Doctor Who episode (zombies in space) & I'm glad there wasn't a syrupy ending tagged on like last weeks Knock Knock. Good performances from the cast especially Peter Capaldi & Jamie Matheson who is surely fast becoming the new series best writer. Only quibble it needed another 10 minutes & I'd like to seen that attack in space more to see what led to the Doctor saving Bill giving her his helmet, however that's only my own greedy personal quibble, i loved this episode. I have to rate this a 9/10 Do you know, while I was watching this I was thinking, "I think Simon's really going to like this one." Ha! I thought it was great. I actually had a hard time watching during the airlock scene. They set the horror of that up so well with the opening lecture. Everything came together so perfectly in this episode. I don't think it needed that extra 10 min. It was great. I'm just being greedy wanting a extra 10 minutes lol, Ha I'm glad you thought of me enjoying this episode you know i like my Doctor Who dark & terrifying, i think the late Robert Holmes possessed Jamie a little writing this as i could easily see this as a 70's Hinchcliffe story. You should look me up on Google+ i write reviews on Doctor Who, movies, do angry rant reviews & post my artwork on there & Whiskeybrewer takes mickey out of my chin.....a lot lol.

Ha I'm glad you thought of me enjoying this episode you know i like my Doctor Who dark & terrifying, i think the late Robert Holmes possessed Jamie a little writing this as i could easily see this as a 70's Hinchcliffe story. And let's be honest, Doctor Who was always pretty dark and terrifying from the get-go. Think about it, its original premise was about two ordinary people abducted off the street at night by a pair of aliens who spirit them away without any means of returning them back home. Neither party fully trusts the other, neither can take that chance. They're utterly alone with only the clothes on their back and one of the first places they arrive is amongst petrified trees and irradiated soil. A cadaver world populated by machine terrors that seethe within their City, wanting nothing else but the deaths of the war's other survivors. Shortly after escaping that nightmare, the Ship simply -- stops. And in the stillness, the crew turn on each other... And that's just the first three of the first season. It's a testament to the strength and intelligence of these characters that there are still companions and still Doctors.

I enjoyed the episode but that's more to do with the fact that I can't get enough of the Doctor/Bill Tardis team. Once again they had so much great interaction here. I also can say Nardole is great and he fits right in with the Doctor & Bill. The 3 of them are just a perfect team for me.
The Doctor sacrificing himself for Bill and the hug. Please my heart can't take this.
As for Nardole after the first two Christmas specials I just wasn't sure about him. But he's been a joy every episode this season. And I am happy to say in his first Tardis adventure that joy continues for me. I love his sardonic sense of humor (apparently Matt adlibbed the line about having blue friends BTW) and I love that he stands up to the Doctor for not keeping his promise. I don't know what Nardole is but clearly he's not human (or not entirely so) and that is also very welcome.
But I'll be frank the storyline of this episode didn't do much for me. Admittedly I am not really into zombie storylines. And I found the resolution a bit rushed. Although I did absolutely love the line "like every worker everywhere! We’re fighting the suits.” I just wish there was more of this central message to the overall story & not just tacked on at the end. I also found the guest characters to be ultimately forgettable, even blue alien guy. The zombie suits did look pretty cool though.
As for the Doctor being blind eventually we all know this will be fixed (although I wonder if it will not be until Doctor 13). I am ultimately more interested in what this will lead for Capaldi's Doctor. In most stories when a character loses one of their senses they have to learn how to overcome this disability. But I don't know I just can't see that being what the Doctor has to learn. How much of a handicap will this ultimately be for the Doctor whose greatest strength is still his mind. So for me it's not whether he will get his sight back that matters but how will this develop the character of the Doctor (and maybe Bill & Nardole for that matter)
Next week's episode does look right up my alley at least setting wise I was getting Name of the Rose vibes.

There you go. Quite excellent!
And the rest of the writers (up to a point) will have to deal with a certain problem. Hmmm....
(They could've toned down the 'capitalism is evil' thing though....)

Hmm...That was an interesting episode. Wonder what's going to happen next? Loved the interaction between the Doctor, Bill, and Nardole in this one.

I think it was more a 'capitalism has gone too far' thing rather than generic 'capitalism is evil' (think we can all agree making oxygen a commodity to be bought is too far).

I'm not over Bill screaming out for her Mother. Genuinely chilling moment that, really sold her fear better than a generic scream does. And the nice touch of it being the photo of her mother we see Bill flashback to, the photo being her only frame of reference for her mother. That's good continuity there.

That she only has because the Doctor went back and took pictures of her Mum makes it even better.

Oh, I'd say valuing the commodity over personnel was taking it too far. "Capitalism is evil" when you start competing with the resources your organisation is attempting to exploit. Bad policy when the ore in the ground is more valuable than the person who mines it. It's such a disturbingly real premise too. No wonder there was a revolt.

Finally saw this one. Great stuff. And while this isn't a big deal (to a degree you gotta let this stuff go), I hope they lampshade why the Doctor can't use a little regeneration energy to heal his eyes, like he did with River's broken arm or Davros's eyes. EDIT: (Actually that was a problematic development. Maybe it's better they don't mention it.)
