Can anyone confirm if this is in serial or omnibus format? Omnibus. Omnibus? As in like the original 1980s vhs releases?

Well, not quite since those changed something that already existed in complete episodic form while this is doing the story complete for the first time but yes, it's one long piece, not individual 24 minute chunks. And it's edited accordingly. I didn't know this wasn't widely assumed - the BBFC cleared it as one 2 hour film, not as episodes and the cinema broadcasts confirmed it.
AFAIK, Power Of The Daleks only got the episodic treatment because of the deal to broadcast it on BBC America and the BBC Store week by week.

I know beggars can't be choosers, but I'm a bit disappointed by that to be honest. I far prefer sticking to the regular format, otherwise it just doesn't feel like classic Who to me.

Might re-edit it into episodes for when I get up to it in my marathon. That being said, the omnibus format in the cinema did work surprisingly well however where there should have been cliffhangers was very obvious so it's a bit surprising they chose not to edit it episodically.

But a someone else said on this thread beggars can't be choosers.

"Beggars can't be choosers" indeed!
I'm heading down to Camberley in a few minutes, so am planning on grabbing a copy of the DVD from HMV. It might be Friday before I'm able to see it (I'm pretty busy tomorrow - Thursday), but I really can't wait!

When I started watching Who on PBS, the episodes were all in the omnibus format. It wasn’t until years later that I learned that they were originally broken up into different epidodes. For me, the omnibus format does feel like classic Who.

Yeah, I can see that, it depends on how long ago you started watching. For me, it was still individual episodes. (heck, they were still airing the early Tom Bakers with the kind-of-lame narration at the beginning of each episode.) They would show a full story on Sunday mornings but it would be individual episodes one after the other. Then on weekdays they "stripped" the show, one episode per day, in the early evening. A couple of years later they started doing the omnibus thing (a term I didn't hear regarding this format until decades later). Heck, at the time I thought it was the station that had edited the stories together, not the syndicator. But I saw all the Tom Baker stuff in episodic format.
As for Shada, I had (probably still have) a copy of the VHS with Baker's narration filling in the gaps if I want a different feel. Not that I'm going to get to see this new version any time soon, in the middle of the USA.

For someone that's currently dilly-dallying on whether to purchase one. Do these steelbooks have unique limited edition numbers (e.g. 3065/5000) assigned to them? Could a "limited edition" product like this realistically sell out in its first month of being offered?

The Series 9 steelbook sold out within days and a copy went on ebay recently for over £150. Shada probably won't sell out that fast but there's no doubt it is limited.

Amazon Canada still shows a January 9th release. I'm wondering if the U.S. delay is due to something BBC America is doing - if so then it wouldn't impact Canada as BBC Canada has no affiliation. Or it could just be that Amazon Canada is going to pull the old last minute "there has a been a delay with this item and we don't know when it will be released" trick on January 9th.

I followed the earlier advice and simply bought from Amazon UK. I didn't realize, but you just sign in with your usual login/pwd. Just make sure you're at the right version of amazon. I'm in the US, but I'd assume it'd work for you if it works for me. Mine already shipped a few days ago, whereas from Amazon US it was supposed to be 1/8/18, but then they said there'd be a several month delay (I talked to cust.service. They couldn't tell me more, so I canceled my US order and went to UK).

Yeah, Amazon are useless when it comes to things like the reasons for delays or the like - sits like TVShowsonDVD are much better. Amazon just have the standardised forms they'll fill in the blanks on and send to customers. Hey, if enough people shift their orders to the UK, the more chance we get more animations, and sooner anyway.

Not to be a downer but wouldn't hold my breath according to... "Amazon.com has changed at the top to say "Currently Unavailable," and if you scroll down to the "Product details" section of that listing it gives a date of December 18, 2018...a year and three weeks from today! The Amazon.ca (Canada) listing has not been changed yet. However, a Canadian retailer has sent us a screen shot from Warner Home Video of Canada's password-protected B2B site, showing that the studio has issued a "street date correction": the old date shown is 1/9/2018, and the new street date listed is 9/4/2018" www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Doctor-Shada/23830

Hey, if enough people shift their orders to the UK, the more chance we get more animations, and sooner anyway. I'm not arguing, just curious. Why do you think that is? Netflix didn't have all the original series on DVD, so I bought whatever they didn't have from Amazon US. I would have thought that sales are sales and that this is a multinational, therefore, Amazon would track total sales and BBC would know. If there's a solid reason for only buying Who from Amazon UK, that's exactly what I'm going to do from now on. Costs a few more bucks in shipping, but, it's contributing to a cause.

I ordered thinking that 1/9/18 isn't so bad vs 12/?/17. It's not like eight bucks breaks the bank but, meh. I can wait. Then they emailed me to say it'd be December of 2018, then Sept 2018, and I assumed it was some kind of glitch. Nope. It was because "we do not know when that will become available".... Which strikes me as bizarre given how huge of a company has become and given how its tentacles sprawl, but that's what they told me. Meanwhile, Amazon UK has a blu-ray for sale that, as others said earlier, is region-free. Strange.
