'Add more comedy to it'? This Doctor Who, not Doctor on the Go. If you want all menace and all that building of tension to disperse, then comedy will do that for you.

That's because it was set in a period renowned for farce and in that example, it worked because in many ways it was written that way. Shada is nothing like Unicorn and a normal DW tone (like the suggested 6th/Peri) of links had Unicorn been the production that was halted by the BBC strike, wouldn't work. Shada in itself provides the natural light-heart in a serious story from the dialogue anyway.

Shada would be better with 10 and Donna linking narration rather than 6 and Peri. If only JNT had thought of that....

Heh. So we have a McGann animation, a McGann audio, and now we'll have a Tom Baker animation? It'll be interesting to hear Baker vs. McGann, I suppose

There are things that need to draw a market in though, and if you were animating BF then first out of the gate is The Light at the End, the only genuine Five Doctor cross over in existence. Then the Tenth Doctor material. Then I'd have things like The Spectre of Lanyon Moor, Six and the Brig. The War Doctor sets would be an obvious selling point as well. Spare Parts would be another no brainer. Chimes? Not for me. Better to head to the EDAs rather than the DU. Seven? Not so sure, Colditz would sell for its Tennant connection, and lead to the rest of the Klein material. And with a 2D J&L then J&L&S would have to be on the radar as a selling point. What about Dark Eyes? While I love that it simply isn't where you would start 8's adventures. I'd get to it AFTER the 8DAs, definitely, but not as a standalone.

Shada would be better with 10 and Donna linking narration rather than 6 and Peri. Well, that would've made sense if it was made in 1985, wouldn't it? No, but - really - why did you post this? It don't see the reason to say it...

I don't know about anyone else, but this announcement motivated me to get the Shada DVD with Tom Baker narrating. It's been on my wish list forever. I've seen it but never owned it.

And a certain severity would be required for the bookends anyway, if only for the audience to take the story elements seriously. Had it gone ahead, it would probably have looked in no small part like Return to Devil's End.

Back in the day (1991/2 I think) I drove miles to find a shop I knew had the special VHS package with the script book - so I've never bought the DVD either because I still have that unique double pack! Needless to say, I'm rather keen on the idea of a full Tom Baker 'Shada' at last.

What's the point of an historic collection if it can't ever be played! I guess the final end of the road must be in sight for VHS, though there are enough repairers / refurbishers still operating that I can't be the only one who doesn't want to lose the old format (and the archive) just yet.

I'm excited for this. I really do love Shada and consider it one of the best Doctor Who stories EVER and a prospect of a more 'complete' version is a dream come true.

Just going to say this: if we want further adapations, then we really need to support this release. We know The Tenth Planet, Reign of Terror and The Moonbase didn't do as well as expected in sales and Power of The Daleks was most likely done to showcase potential intrest in a hitaus year.

If I'm right, though, apart from the XMAS Special, there won't be any Who till August/September next year, so Shada might be considered necessary to make people remember the show.

I wonder if the reason why Tenth Planet, Reign of Terror and Moonbase didn't sell well is that the casual audience were put off by the mix of live-action and animated episodes? Maybe Power of the Daleks was a bigger success because its fully animated?

That suggests animated missing Doctor Who is more popular when its completely animated as opposed to a mix of animated and live action episodes. Maybe if The Invasion had been completely animated with the surviving episodes as special features, Cosgrove Hall wouldn't have gone bust?

Maybe you prefer consistency, but... I think the animation was what put people off The Invasion. However, I think as time has gone on fans have become more accepting of the animation. And, in all honesty, they're more likely to do partial animation with Shada.
