I say "entirely self generated", and by that I mean the actual vote...though my opinion, opinion mind, not knowledge, is that Remain lost due to apathy rather than Leave won due to anything else. I think Leave got as much as it was going to get, and I know plenty of Remain supporters who didn't bother to vote, thinking like David Cameron, the PM, that Remain was a sure thing and it was all a formality. Yes, that's anecdotal, so on we go. And somewhere someone is the former USSR is happy that Europe is turning against itself.
Again, GAH.

The other Johnson brother has resigned, calling for a second referendum.
Looking worse and worse by the day for the chances of whatever deal May produces.

While I agree that this whole shambles will be worse than thought, I think it will not be as bad as feared. I also do not know what and who is helped by this fearmongering- it just drives people into panic mode and anyone knows how hard it is to think critically when paniced. This is how rash and unqualified decisions get made.
A few weeks ago, I had been to a scientific conference and one of the keynote speakers prophesized doom and gloom and insisted that humanity would start extinction as soon as 2050. While he was right in some of the points he made, several other scientists, including me, were quick in pointing out the flaws in his pretty predictions.
I might often be on the bad side of realism when I look into the future, but so far I had always hope, and during my life, everything that was sold to me beforehand as a worse-case-scenario never was as bad as feared.
Maybe bad example, but look at the Y2K bug and how that turned out- back then, we (family and other villagers) were even standing on the lookout tower on the hills above my village, looking down towards our nuclear power plant, ready to see the fireworks. Fatalistic, I know, but how would we have escaped anyways? But my dad lives for hope and he even goes around our region planting apple trees as signs of hope for everyone to see, defiant to the last.
Since politicians in my opinion always work towards their own goals, and always look after themselves and their advantage, I am quite sure that the whole Brexit kindergarten will come to some sort of last minute heroic agreement. Which will satisfy no one, but will prevent a worst case scenario.
My 2 cents.
The key differences here being that programmers understood the nature of the Y2K bug, the consequences of it going unfixed, and having the competency and will to actually do so before disaster struck.

And what magic is Labour going to conjure up? And I say this as a Labour supporter. When did I say I wanted a Labour government? Well it seemed a reasonable conclusion, since the burning pit of crap that is the Tory party at the moment seems to want to make things actually worse, so getting a different stripe of them is just a terrible idea.

Speaking from the arm's length of being on the far side of the Atlantic - it remains astonishing to me that, more than two years on, I have yet to hear a single Brexiteer argument that isn't easily demonstrably false, mindbendingly stupid, openly racist, or some combination of the three. I have not heard a single expert or stakeholder -- academic, businessperson, economist, anyone -- present even one pro-Brexit argument that doesn't collapse under the mildest of scrutiny. And what's happened in the 29 months since the referendum? One loudmouth Brexiteer after another has gone out of their way to walk back the pre-referendum exaggerations and outright lies, resigned their government posts when the going got too haaaaard, tried to hide their personal financial histories as well as that of the Brexit campaign, secured EU passports for themselves, and just generally slithered away into the darkness, unwilling to face up to the consequences of the disaster they've wrought. It's appalling, and the British people deserve a better government than one that limply protests 'well, it is what it is,' owing to a farce of a referendum that was built on a platform of lies.

In general, the whole world deserves better govenments. Wherever you look, they all seem to go into the same general direction and it scares me sh*tless.
We are all sitting in the same basic mess "governed" by the same type of imbeciles.
How did it even get this far? ?
