All this sort of stuff does is encourage piracy. Loyalty between a TV show & the audience works both ways. Streaming services are getting too greedy.

All my Star Trek fan friends in Germany are unimpressed. There is no way of seeing the new season legally over here for months to come. I think they dropped a ball here. (I have yet to watch any episode of Discovery, but at least I bought season 1-3 on Prime)

(I have yet to watch any episode of Discovery, but at least I bought season 1-3 on Prime) Definitely dropped it. It’s clearly a moneymaking decision for them. I’m not a fan of having multiple streaming services: a Smart TV makes it a lot easier to keep track of them all but it comes down to spending a lot of money every month to be watching one or two shows per company. And there are often long periods of time when I don’t watch anything at all. BTW, I hope you enjoy Discovery. I tuned in after I’d rewatched TOS and absolutely loved it. There’s a couple of minor things that bother me about it but it has so much else going for it and it tells a season-long story wonderfully.

This remind me of a situation a couple/few "Doctor's" ago.. the Christmas special wasn't legally shown on tv here till Easter.. By then it was already out on DVD/Blu ray if memory serves me correct..!

I thought season 1 was pretty bad and couldn't make it to the end, but I've heard S2 is a big improvement. I love Lower Decks, though. I'm also just buying 'em on Amazon... shame they take so long to put up the new stuff. Am anxiously awaiting S2.

There’s a couple of minor things that bother me about it but it has so much else going for it and it tells a season-long story wonderfully. Yeah, exactly that. First, my internet connection is crap. It took me 90 mins to watch the latest episode of Who on iTunes because it broke off all the time, so spending money on a Streaming service, with second, also not having a lot of time because of a demanding day job, for me is plain and simply wasting my money. So the only thing I am on is iTunes and Prime. Nothing else is worth the trouble. I have held back with Discovery since I am afraid of disappointment. Many of my Star Trek friends were disappointed or upset, and Star Trek has always been a feel good part of my life, so my worst fear is disillusionment. But I will have to bite the bullet eventually. I also already know all the story twists and surprised because I have seen several of the actors on conventions and it was Spoiler galore there. So at least no surprises for me.

Season 2 of Lower Decks is already on Prime. I think it is fine. I know that many people hate it because of the humor, but it is full of Easter Eggs to discover and it is written quite clever.
The only gripe I have with it is that they talk so incredibly fast. When watching it for the first time, I could harldy follow what was said.

It’s very different to other Treks because it is - like the other Treks - being told with the current storytelling methods and values. A lot of people didn’t enjoy it because it felt a little too “modern” or “gritty” or “ignored” the continuity. It doesn’t any more than any other incarnation of the show did. And the first season does take a few episodes to get to a point where it “feels” like it’s Trek, which is kind of the point of long-form storytelling. But I was sold from the opening scene.

Maybe it's a region thing? Can't buy it in the US right now--it can only be watched via Paramount+, and I've zero interest in picking up any more subscription services. Re: LD, I think tonally and thematically it feels a lot truer to the "golden age" Trek I fell in love with as a kid (EG TNG/DS9/VOY) but, yeah, sometimes the humor can be kind of spotty. Like with the literal gatekeeping. Lower Decks is walking this really weird line between being a totally earnest Star Trek show and a complete parody. For the most part, though, I think it works. At least in S1.

At least in S1. LD is at its center a workplace sitcom, which I think helps the earnesty and parody blend as well as it does.
And I gotta say I all-caps LOVE what LD did with the Pakleds in S1. A deconstruction of TNG's episodic format that weaves them into the serialized and consequence-driven format of DS9 and the modern live-action shows.
I've liked Discovery more and more with each season, but LD I loved out of the gate. Definitely my favorite of the new era thus far.

Watched the first two episodes streamed to my tv from the Pluto app. S'fine.
(Meanwhile, *finally* Coda Book 2 turned up. For anybody disappointed at how the conflict between characters in DW's TLV novels didn't really spark, this is more like what it should've been.)

Just commission 4 seasons or whatever at once and be done with it. Anyway, I don't care much for DSC or PIC, but I'm pretty optimistic for SNW and Lower Decks is fantastic. Here's hoping they add more beta-canon ships... Titan was nice but I'd also love to see the Aventine and Odyssey show up someday.
