Still loving Season 2 of Picard. This is just brilliant and coming nicely together. Now we even get to see the beginnings of the Eugenics project. And Q as well as the Borg Queen DEFINITELY are up to something. Something not good.

Sorry all, I've been traveling and not online and not seen these LDS S2 reactions till now....and of all places, I've been in Chicago for the Star Trek convention all weekend! Flying home tonight.
So, yes, I didn't really enjoy S2 at all after its spectacular first season (which is my favourite season in all of new Trek). That first year was just a note-perfect configuration of stories that were both entertaining and funny, with a fair dose of references to classic Trek sprinkled throughout. Contrarily, I found none of the episodes of season 2 particularly entertaining, I thought the humour made a marked shift from a lot of terrific character absurdity to dumb gags and lowbrow nonsense (which I mean broadly; I didn't actually have any problem with that scene). Where season 1 was a perfect mix of its own stories and little references to make longtime fans smile, season 2 ditched interesting stories to only do rapidfire, nonstop references to classic Trek, and I thought it really suffered for it.
I won't go into specifics of the episode because I know there are a few here who haven't seen the season yet, but the fifth episode, the Doopler one, was just so cringe bad that it's the first time since the Enterprise/Nemesis period where I was embarrassed to be a Trekkie. Far and away the worst episode of the new era.
I remain optimistic though. We did get that wonderful first season, so I know they have that in them. High hopes for season 3.

Hm... interesting. I do think that's a pattern with a lot of the not-really-but-also-yes-really "nostalgia-bait" TV shows lately, like the Star Wars stuff, which just becomes bogged-down with too much masturbatory self-referential content.
Kinda curious what "that scene" is... I'm probably still a few weeks/months away from diving into everything.
Also curious if LD S2 also introduces some new ships. I'll be perfectly honest, that's kind of the main thing I'm looking forward to with the new shows. Not because of any issues with other aspects, it's just that that's my ASD hyperfixation: starships.
LD S1 introduced some cool new ships (not enough beauty shots though!) and I've heard things about PIC S2 that make me almost giddy.

There’s one “new” class introduced in the finale, but there are some really good ship shots in the finale. Given your love for the ships, I think First First contact will be a smash hit.

Enjoying Star Trek Picard, this feels more grown up storytelling than the Next Generation seasons.
I'm usually a Original Series/1-6 Films Trek fan but thoroughly enjoying Picard.

Star Trek Picard. "I assume a lesson on the futility of resistance is not going to be necessary." (Borg Queen) Classic.

this started good but 3 consecutive boring episodes I think the huge pink elephant in the room with Picard season 2 is, that it is blatantly obvious this was filmed at least partially during the COVID pandemic and with all the COVID rules in place. Even if you would watch this season in maybe 30 years time and compare it to other shows filmed before, it would stick out like a sore thumb.
So what are the issues? A very small cast, that gets recycled frequently and nearly everyone plays at least 2 characters. So you have an actor ensemble that basically is forming a COVID bubble. No outsiders allowed in and with a limited number of people allowed on set.
So you do not get frequent huge crowd scenes. And if you do, I am sure they used a lot of CGI.
The action is limited to certain sets and places and often you have "small" enclosed spaces, like Guinan's bar, the clinic and La Sirena.
There is also not a lot of "outwards" driving action. Much of what is happening is "inside" (some of it literally in the character's heads!), internalized very personal character work.
To be frank- this season feels a lot like many Big Finish audio plays, come to think of it.
I actually like this. And I also do not mind too much that the actors get recycled and play several roles. This is standard practice in audio work. But yeah, I can see how this might be annoying in a TV show. Maybe my agnosia helps me here- since my face recognition is so bad, I can easily overlook the fact that several characters have the same face and just focus on the character themselves.
As for the internalized action- I actually really liked the story of the Fox Mulder character who got spooked by aliens as a kid and is since then haunted.
I thought it really funny that the aliens he is so terrified of are in fact
So yeah, I still really like this. I can see that there are a lot of limitations to the series, but I think for what they had available, they did a very good job.
And my favorite character definitely has to be the Borg queen.
She is very deliciously evil and a real threat with her own agenda.

I just saw the opening for Strange New Worlds, it's a thing of beauty lots of Gorgeous shots of the enterprise, and visuals that look just amazing.
Only 6 days to go!
Has anyone else seen that last episode of Picard? What a brilliant way to handle the Borg!

I don’t buy the end of the Borg story in Picard 209 for a second.

I don’t buy the end of the Borg story in Picard 209 for a second. I felt it was quite an elegant piece of writing myself. I felt the Borg story echoes the story of The Undiscovered Country and The Motion Picture quite elegantly. I have a fairly good idea of how I think it ties into the premier as well. I felt that the Borg being wrapped up in a self fulfilling prophecy was a great idea and it really utilized their entire MO really well. I'm curious to see what the longer term implications of this development will be for the Borg.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

It looks incredible.

I don’t buy the end of the Borg story in Picard 209 for a second. Nor do I it was awful but this season started well then got worse and just as bad as season 1 {Spoiler} The borg are just lonely omg that was awful & all the running around in the secret tunnel, stopping every so often for pointless flashback to Picards mom that adds nothing.
