Seizure OK I knew I was taking a risk with my nerves by listening to a Guy Adams ghost/horror story late at night, with headphones, in near-darkness... and oh wow! Excellent! 5* I love ghost stories (my username IS a ghost story in case you didn't know that already) and this episode evokes the ghost/horror genre brilliantly, with a setting and a type of ghost that only 'Doctor Who' can do. A dying TARDIS for the haunted house, a matrix memory trace of her dead pilot for the ghost, eleven crazy inhabitants in one (fantastic Eleven again from Mark Bonnar) and a monster stalking the halls - what more could you ask for?
And seriously brilliant sound design and direction combining with the great performances to give me a few real jump-scares, top work all round! (And a cliff-hanger to finish... very much looking forward to 'Ravenous 3'.)
I think only you and I really enjoyed it 👍

McGann, Walker and Dorney. With these three on board I was expecting the usual greatness......
Unfortunately I found the whole box set a tad underwhelming considering those involved. It wasn't bad in any way just very middling. I still enjoyed it but I was hoping for a bit more. Maybe Ravenous 3 can reset the balance?

That’s a pity you didn’t quite enjoy i have listened now about four times to the whole set and have to say IMO that its one of the strongest tightest sets i have heard from BF

I was chatting with Ela earlier today about this set and we both shared the same basic view on its weaknesses. Now bear in mind I love what David Richardson & Ken Bentley have contributed to the legacy of the 8th Doctor but by the time Time War & Ravenous wrap up the two of them will have guided 8 & company through 48 hours of story. If you include Dark Eyes 3-4, you are at 60 hours. That is a huge amount of material and I thank them for it. Every bit of 8th Doctor is something to be thankful for but I also wonder if it isn't time for a creative transfusion into the 8th Doctor range. Much like how BF has split up the Main Range between 3 producers & story editors, or how Chris Chibnall has been a breath of fresh air for the TV show, maybe that is what 8 needs moving forward. James Goss? Joe Lidster? Helen Goldwyn? Anyway, food for thought and discussion.

I'm a bit out of step with you and Ela, Nathan, as this is my favourite McGann boxset since Dark Eyes 1.
Not for any profound reason...I've just found the stories more memorable, the settings more evocative and the ensemble working in perfect synergy. I thought the Krampus eps were fantastic inparticular.
It's left me looking forward to a McGann box more than I have in years. I haven't hated any, don't get me wrong, but Dark Eyes went askew, Doom Coalition had great eps but not one set I loved from start to finish and I didn't think Ravenous 1 was vintage. The 8th Doctor's first Time War box came closest but it's Ravenous 2 that's the first box, as I say, since that first in 2012 that I've downright loved.

I almost want to agree - unless they're going to turn out more that I think as highly of as Ravenous 2, so go figure. :-) I wonder if I've at all formed an accurate perception that maybe it proved a little tricky at first juggling the two different Eight Doctor series? Ravenous 2 feels to me like they've gotten the hang of it, and makes me more hopeful about the remaining sets from both series.

Hmmm... I have to say that I am pretty impressed with the 8th Doctor boxsets in general. They are one of the reasons I love Big Finish. Yes, there are some episodes that are not as good as others, but as a whole, they are more consistent good quality than the TV series is. I have yet to see a 8th Doctor set that disappoints me.
I agree that the first Ravenous was not as good as Doom Coalition or Ravenous 2, but it still was pretty good in my oppinion. Listening to Ravenous 2, I was more excited than about watching the new TV series. And the TARDIS team, especially Liv, is amazing, I think Liv is one of my all time favorite companions.
I am all up for change- although I do not think the series is stale at all- some new and fresh ideas would spice things up a bit (there is always room for improvement), although I would not change up the formula too much right now(since I am enjoying it right now). So yeah, finding the right balance will be difficult. But looking at previous output, I am confident the BF writers will manage it.
Really looking forward to the next installment (and please do not kill off Liv just yet...).

Really looking forward to the next installment (and please do not kill off Liv just yet...). Please don't ever kill Liv off. She is by far the best original companion that BF have created mainly due to Nicola Walkers performance.

I love Hattie when she ticked off the Doctor in ravenous for trying to score points she just clicked with me.Funny how one wee moment can just solidify a character for you

Looking forward to her new adventures! (To be fair, Charley and Liv are never far behind.)

Character wise Lucie might nudge ahead but there is something about India's voice that evens the score.

On the other hand: how much has to build up to push him to War (not that the War Doctor did anything heinous......other than at the last end).
I'd still prefer Liv to live anyway. (I felt idiotic typing that....)

Well, they have the Time War series for putting the Doctor through the wringer... although, as a small criticism to the last Time War set, the Doctor hestiating and not risking a life, although it would have been the sensible thing to do, really broke my immerson, because it was so contrived and not believable. The 8th Doctor at that point in time surrounded by such high stakes should really behave differently.
It made no sense for me.
I did not listen to the War Doctor sets yet, but I heard that a common citizism is that the Doctor behaves like business as usual and not different at all. I understand that they could not make him more evil because of some contract or another... but what a massive missed opportunity, plus missing the point entirely. This is one of the reasons I have so far kept away from the War Doctor. On the other hand, if they had him more like the torturing a$$hole from Caerdroia with the scheming of the 7th Doctor mixed in, that would have been something else! And Big Finish has proven they can write evil very well with the War Master.
And it is in no way idiotic to prefer Liv to live....

In all honesty, I think the War Doctor can’t be evil otherwise he would be permanently disowned by his later regenerations (he isn’t - they’re happy with him the moment he doesn’t use the, ah, moment). To me, the whole point of the incarnation is that he is the Doctor - just in unmanageable situations. I think the drink he was given by the Sisters of Karn is likely a placebo.
