Some of the stories sound pretty fun, though I'm not sure about the season 18 setting. Do they REALLY want Tom to recreate the period where he was ill, listless, fed up and ready to go?

I always assumed that after events in the denouement of Nightmare of Eden resulted in the burgundy outfit. Horns of Nimon (and Shada) would beg to differ. Time Travel - Nightmare of Eden is the reason he adopted the burgundy, Horny Nimons and Shadadada happen before NoE.

Tom Baker has expressed great admiration for what Big Finish does - so I'd imagine he trusts them with the period to deliver something special.

I hope so. Hopefully it'll be more of the feel of State of Decay - somewhat more serious than the previous season, but still a sense of fun - than some of the others.

I love the serious more somber tone of Season 18. The Doctor is sort of going through middle age at that point and he's clearly nearing his regeneration. He'd grown weary of the Universe in his travels. The Season 18 setting has some great opportunities to do a character study of the Fourth Doctor. I think it can really give Tom a chance to shine.

I don't think we would get a bored performance we get him more engaged in some then others but I don't I've heard a CD interview when he's not complementary of the script or the cast/crew sometimes all of it.

Given that news, that wonderful - wonderful - wonderful bit of news - does anyone else think that The Beast of Kravenous sounds a more then a little too conventional Doctor Who tale? It sounds great, wonderful enticing, but I do wonder if we might be seeing the resolution to The Well-Mannered War in a very Mind Robber-style fashion.

The rest of the FDAs have a nice texture to them too, I was never expecting an officially licenced story with the Movellans in a million years.

That's intresting, I wasn't aware there were licencising issues with The Movellans. I do wonder if Big Finish might update their look, given their reputation.

There aren't, but the Movellans seem to have this reputation in fandom as being a bit silly for being thwarted by an easily removed battery on their hip (something Benny chastised the Daleks with in Death and the Daleks). As a consequence, I really wasn't expecting to see them outside of fan fiction.

What news? Am I missing something?. The announcement of The Genesis Chamber I agree that is wonderful, wonderful news, but I still don't get the link to this first story being a resolution to The Well Mannered War. Unless, like me, you were hoping for a seperate, possibly box set style resolution, but now we know it will be Tom and Louise in the next special release you think that they will still give us that resolution but at the start of next year's series? Is that it or am I still missing something - sorry if I am being dim.

I doubt he will try to sound like he hates what he is doing, or like he is drained. He is past 80 and doing this because he is enjoying it - seriously, how many people work past 80? - and because he deeply values the appreciation of the fans. He is not "fed up." He is not "listless." And the only sense in which is is "ready to go" is reflected in his comments at "Tom at 80" and they are honest reflections on the inevitable aging we all face. In fact, he said only in 2015 that he's recorded several years out. I read that to mean....several years from the moment at which he speaks. He also had personal issues at that time, which he wrote about in his autobiography and which are almost certainly (and almost entirely) water under the bridge at this time. Because the reason for his take was personal, there is no reason for it to repeat. And certainly no reason for us to demand a return. Why would you want to, anyway? For my part, I'll listen to Tom in any damn setting he pleases. Tom Baker rules. Amen.

Also, given that the series will transition into season eighteen (complete with the origin story of Four's bundry outfit), it seems am ample place to resolve the cliffhanger, particularly given the current series has The Fourth Romana, K9 and Romana high upon their perch and The Black Guardian in the finale. Big Finish might be wary of playing the long game with that cliffhanger, particularly given the pull Four's releases have. Also, sometimes our lives do change in an instant. It doesn't have to be an all-out epic box set to lead us to the melchaoncy Four of season eighteen, just a moment in his life that changed....everything on top of the events of The Well-Mannered War.

These are the Fourth Doctor Adventures we're talking about, probably the most nostalgia-driven of Big Finish ranges. And BF has been on a nostalgia kick for a while now. Recall that the tagline for the Third Doctor Boxset was "Big Finish: Recreating an Era."
