I think the conversation goes End of New Era (Phrase 1) We'll see how true this really is soon And all I can add is that I'll be surprised if Monday 25th is significantly different to Saturday 9th.

Well, though the promo itself is just an image, it is quite something that - according to RTD himself - this is the end of "New Who" and the Whonoverse app reflects that somewhat yet contradict him a little, with the classics labelled as 1963-1996 and then New Who 2005-2022. So these 3 specials wrap up everything since "Rose". I've no idea what the new era is to be called in fandom, Disney-Who seems to be out there but also comes with a lot of baggage, Bad Wolf Who is clunky.
It won't be unrecognisable - it's only weeks between eps after all, but RTD has floated some things - a much more fantasy oriented approach for one - but also he's said it's a "soft" reboot.

Oh I see. Well, yes, anyone thinking this is going to be a new era will probably be very disappointed, the only thing that makes this a new era is the restarted season numbers, so it's more phase two of the current new era.

We've had soft reboots before (The Eleventh Hour) & (The Woman Who Fell To Earth). It does seem a bit like vanity on RTDs part - I'm back & reinventing it from scratch again (even though he isn't).

I don't think RTD has anything to do with the renumbering, I'm pretty sure that's Disney. And I haven't seen any sign he's claiming to be reinventing it again. Messing with the mythology, yes, but he very much seems to be leaving the fundamental look and feel of the show unchanged.

End of New Era (Phrase 1) Regards mark687 I'll clarify Further as The Member has decided it Must be Dissected the fact they are highlighting Just the New Series Regenerations may mean they're firmly treating Nucuti's Series as the start of a New Era (even if it feels familiar) Regards mark687

I'm stumped as to how you could interpret the image as meaning any more than that they only had room for six (they even missed out John Hurt!) but different people having different perspectives is part of what makes the world roll. But anyway, I think we're all agreeing that this isn't the start of a new era no matter what the numbering might imply.

But anyway, I think we're all agreeing that this isn't the start of a new era no matter what the numbering might imply. You're right, we all have different points of view. For instance I don't consider John Hurt as being "missing" as he didn't have his own era as 'The Doctor' on TV... obviously to us Big Finish aficionados the War Doctor has his own era on audio (and they're great!) but for the general public watching Doctor Who on BBC1 I suppose he was only just a bit part player in the series.
Season One makes sense, as he who pays the piper calls the tune, so it is what is. Although it is only a label, as we all know that Doctor Who started in 1963. My OCD might not like it when it's printed on the spines of the Blu-Rays though!

Wasn’t really sure where to put this, but guess this seems appropriate now the three specials have aired: have we all been listening to the podcast on BBC Sounds? What are our thoughts?
It falls flat for me, unfortunately. I like the idea of having a companion podcast for the show, as a few others I follow do the same. But I’m not convinced the Who incarnation really works? It seems too heavily guided by RTD’s questions, which whilst interesting, don’t really seem to inspire the discussion that they should from the hosts. Not really sure it feels thought out beyond those clips, to be honest.
And I’m not sure any of the hosts work. Christel Dee’s interest in Doctor Who frankly doesn’t stretch beyond Tennant, cosplaying Ace or feigning interest in whatever her paid gig is. Tyrell Charles seems like he was hired based on his content creation experience and was given a top 10 episode list to watch and refer back to. Juno Dawson is the most rounded of them, but I think her writing involvement in Who limits how much opinion she shares, along with the relative inexperience of her co-hosts.
That’s not to say I want three die hard fans hosting the podcast going into deep cuts and references. Nor do I want a trio slating each episode as it comes out. But something of meaning and interest wouldn’t go amiss, although I suspect we’ve got this lineup and format for at least Ncuti’s tenure.

What if they just call the new season one "Who's on First?"
I'll see myself out.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.
