I really hope this is post-Mastermind Beevers - as in the one who becomes Alex Macqueen.

Calling it now: The year of The Master is to prepare us for the recasting of role for The Third Doctor Adventures and future Fifth Doctor material, much as the Locum Doctor triolgey and The Fate of Krelos/Return to Telos was to lead wary customers into The Early Adventures and The Third Doctor Adventures.

You may be on to something there Michael "First in a number of appearances" including J&L Season 11, so I suspect at least a couple of things TBA.

Doctor Who and You Will Obey Me is an awful title.
The pairing of Macqueen and Baker messes with UNIT: Dominion - another mindwipe?
Alan Barnes was pretty awful with Last of the Cybermen so I'm not especially excited.

I'm guessing we'll see a War Master in one of the upcoming War Doctor box sets. Maybe there might be a nod to John Simm's Master in The Tenth Doctor Adventures too?

The Doctor Who prefix in the news story is only for the link. I don't think there'll be a mindwipe. Everyone and their granny was saying "Not more amnesia" for McGann meeting River and BF swerved that just fine. They seem accutely aware of the tropes. If we get the Alan Barnes who wrote Storm Warning, Izzy' s Story, The Girl Who Never Was, Heroes Of Sontar, Gods And Monsters, Death in Blackpool, Suburban Hell and The Bellova Devil...I'm all for it

I am soo pre-ordering these! There's hope now for Derek Jacobi and John Simm to appear in a multi-Master story now Have these two recorded for BF before? If not this would certainly make for a spectacular first appearance!

If not this would certainly make for a spectacular first appearance! Jacobi was a sorta-kinda Doctor in the Unbound story Deadline though it's....different. VERY different. He's also in The Marian Chronicles that BF released last month though they're only distributing it, it was made by BBC Radio. Simm hasn't done anything, sadly.

Since MacQueen's main Doctor is Eight I thought he would be between Roberts and Jacobi? Also that Beevers turns directly into Ainley?

I'm not sure they were intended to lead wary listeners anywhere, to be honest! It's all just an evolution.

Not a single person on here wasn't a noob at some point. Since history and chronology in Who is always in flux, we really all still are! McQueen started with Seven, Marie in a special boxset release. The Master's history is a wee bit odd and not entirely clear but what happens is Beevers plays not only the burnt Master of TV but also he is the post-Ainley Master too (remember he didn't regenerate into Ainley, only stole the body) so when the facade oa Ainley decays, it's Beevers again as that's his "real" form. Then he steals Eric Roberts' body - like he did Ainley - and when that fails...he becomes Beevers for the third time! Much of this was piecing together theories but then the Companion Chronicle Mastermind helped clear up quite a few things. Dark Eyes 3 helps a bit more with pitching MacQueen as a resurrected-by-the-CIA Master, to fight The Eminence. I know...roll with it! I'm sure Billy2/Tim has done a timeline for The Master.

I have a theory that John Simm could become the War Master, being thrown into the war after The End of Time. If I recall correctly, the Master didn't see much of it before he arch'd himself, and Only the Monstrous seems like it's set a good way into the war. And yes, I'm aware the Time Lords from The End of Time are from the end of the war, but they did time travel after all, and we all know this show's love for unreliability.

Didn't the Master run from the Time War, hide himself as a small boy (using a Chameleon Arch) and then grow up to be the Jacobi Master? Going from memory so might not be accurate. Cheers Tony

I'd rather not have another hidden Master incarnation only a few years after getting Alex MacQueen playing just that.
MacQueen makes sense as The Master from the Time War. We know his incarnation was resurrected by the Timelords to fight a war - fits perfectly with Jacobi and Simm's paths. MacQueen runs away from the Time War in the early days, regenerates and uses the fob-watch and then eventually Utopia happens...

Cheers Tony He did but I reckon he'd have fought in it a bit first before something causes him to use the Chameleon Arch to return him to the state of a small boy and flee to the SIlver Devastation. We also don't know how much of that is true, considering he says that whilst he is still Professor YANA and therefore drawing on planted memories. He might never have been a small boy in the first place.

That's a little confusing, as I figured when Ainley's body decays, he turns directly into Tipple Master, and when that fails and he gets sucked into the TARDIS at the end of the movie, he becomes the Shalka Master. I thought the novel of the webcast confirmed that's how the Shalka Master came about?
