I liked the second story a lot more, in fact I felt it was a strong one. Doom has been surprisingly horrible and heartless and Jackie is just all heart. Good to hear them cross and Jackie’s story here was really good and well written.
Yeah, 75% less “babe” and “babes” wouldn’t have hurt though.

I’ve only listened to the first story, Dawn of an Everlasting Peace so far, and frankly I rather enjoyed it.
It’s a nice set up for The Dalek’s Master Plan, and the story really pulls into focus on its back half.
This is my second Doom’s Day story, the first being the first hour, and I agree she’s a bit of an acquired taste. She plays better to the campier side of who, I certainly don’t think she’d be out of place in a story set during season 24.
Overall I wasn’t expecting much from this set, but it’s off to a surprisingly good start so far.

The Crowd had me racking my brains to remember that sci-fi story where the whole crowd baying for Jesus's crucifixion were time-travelling tourists... No, not Behold the Man by Michael Moorcock.
Which rather tells you how enthralled I was not by the whole set. But then, I haven't collected any of the other media in this set so... meh.

I'll go against the grain here - I liked the set a lot! It's one of those rare Big Finish Who releases that is just so distinct and really showcases what their output can be without the conventional trappings of the Doctor and therefore their perspective on events. We go from something breezy and almost comedic with Dawn of Everlasting Peace, to a surprisingly deep A Date with Destiny, which is probably the most authentic and meaningful use of Jackie so far. And then we get a complete contrasting story with The Howling Wolves of Xan-Phear, which is both a thriller and cheery romp, almost like a sci-fi Death in Paradise, rounding off with The Crowd that begins to feel like everything is coming to a head for Doom. Thanks to the variety and almost otherworldiness of the preceding three stories, the Doctor's inclusion in The Crowd adds a new edge and his contempt for Doom throughout is terrific.
I thought Doom was well characterised for the most part and well performed by Sooz. I think the comments about "babes" are a little exaggerated; that was most notable in A Date with Destiny and seemed intended to mirror Jackie for the most part. I can buy into her persona flip flopping depending on the mission. Doom's interactions with Terri were a particular highlight to finally hear, as I always enjoyed their spats in the previous instalments of Doom's Day. It's just a shame that it's taken until practically the end to get an actual performance from Doom outside of those shoddy promo videos. This set should've come much earlier on in the run. A better introductory video, a more expanded DWM offering followed by the Big Finish outing would've done wonders, I think. It's just too late at this point.

Part of my liking was how different it was to anything else recently released; Doom’s Day is almost secondary in that regard. Four distinct stories that stand apart from one another and operate in the Doctor Who world but without the Doctor swooping in to save the day. Even in the final story it feels like a guest appearance rather than him taking charge. None of the stories will set the world alight, but they stand apart in a way many releases don’t and ticked all the right boxes for me. I felt similar to the second volume of the Eleventh Doctor Chronicles.
