www.bigfinish.com/ranges/v/doctor-who-doom-s-dayI'm quite surprised that no one has created a thread about this already. I'm not too enthusiastic about this. I don't think Time Lord Victorious really worked. I know I didn't come even close to partaking in all the offerings over the different media so it made absolutely no sense to me. Maybe this one will be better? I hope so.

Surprised that for a single Boxset it’s getting its own Range page on the big finish website I would have just shoved it into the new series page or special releases

Honestly from the Live Action Teaser Trailer, Sooz Kempner's "Acting" and the Price for the boxset i can safely say that ill be likely skipping the boxset as i doubt there would be much incentive to purchase this (though there is a rumor that this boxset will apparently be the debut of 9 and Rose together in an audio according to Twitter)
A Little detail i just picked up is that the Production Code is BFPDWDOOMSD which means that this is just the standard edition and that we might be getting either a Limited Edition or something else (which explains why there was originally a Bundle Option)

Why should we care about the fact that the Universe’s greatest assassin needs saving from the ever-approaching Death. The universe would probably be better off without her.

Why should we care about the fact that the Universe’s greatest assassin needs saving from the ever-approaching Death. The universe would probably be better off without her. That’s a fair point. It’s why I think it would be better if this was played for comedic effect and she has never killed anyone in her life. But merely got by on a mistaken reputation. Me thinks they’ll probably tone her down and she won’t actually kill anyone in her appearances to make her seem more sympathetic and likeable. Might have worked better had this role been filled by the likes of Vienna Salvatori than an original character. At least there’s already a history there.

Maybe Vienna has a cameo in the BF side of things

I would need more information before I will show any enthusiasm about this. As elkawho said- Timelord Victorious was also a disappointment for me.

I liked TLV, but I won’t go in this one blind because of that. I want to give it a chance though, so hopefully something cheaper than Big Finish’s outing can serve as a test of waters.

BF’s TLV contribution was great - especially Mutually Assured Destruction (Doctor Who does Alien, with Daleks where the Doctor is the Xenomorph…. Brilliant stuff).

Based on my TLV experience (no good feel for the over-arching story based on what I heard and read. I expected the audio pieces to have more of some kind of unified resolution), I am not enthusiastic about this. Still, I am willing to wait to hear more about the 4 CD offering Big Finish will have.

I love that everyone has the same reaction to this. It baffles everyone.

Hm... I dunno. Personifications of abstract concepts is a really fun idea to play with, but I have zero confidence in such a thing ever amounting to any more than a pale and disappointing shadow of Terry Pratchett's work. But the anniversary projects usually turn out pretty solid, so I suppose I'm optimistic about it. Also curious what "Doom" means in the context of this story. In ME it's pretty unambiguous -- just an unfortunate, unpleasant fate. But my understanding is that it used to be a more general term -- just a synonym for destiny without any negative implications. EG the "Domesday Book." I don't think Time Lord Victorious really worked. I know I didn't come even close to partaking in all the offerings over the different media so it made absolutely no sense to me. Maybe this one will be better? I hope so. Couldn't be much worse.

Meh. If there are some good standalones, fine, but for me Who is a performed art. I've only ever
But who knows. Maybe someday I'll read some of the books to see how it strikes me. (I have an ever-growing pile of books to read. We've got bookcases all around the house. So I'm more hesitant than I used to be to buy stuff to read later).

Meh. I wasn’t too excited by the idea before and those story details have done little to endear me to the concept.
I still reckon Doom is going to end up as one of those characters such as Brian the Ood or even Ashidlr where they try and push her for spin-off material but she is forgotten as quickly as she appeared.

It's nice that we have some plot-synopsises, buuuuut I think I'm going to need to know some of the casting before I consider preordering (especially as the book as the Second & Ninth Doctors, and Titan has Missy)

Funny you say that as Brian the Ood is actually in the BBC Audio contribution to this project.
