i think we are seeing ways to shift the monthly releases to a more manageable pattern, also i bet the winter months see the most sales.
and lets be honest, they have still got plenty of time to get it ready for release unlike the tight schedules on other releases.....if it's ready why not get it out there.
also i am sure i am not the only one who waits till 4th season is finished before listening.......we are all now part of the box set generation!!!! for good or bad.

Well a new companion is exciting to me (and I love the idea of a female cop from the 70's, although it does make me pine a bit for DI Menzies) but its a bit too early for me to order stuff for 2019. I still need to order the 2nd half of Season 7. And I'd also love some Adric and the 4th Doctor on a side note. Has Adric ever been so popular in all his years of existence as on this thread today? (I immediately wanted to add: 'Yes, at the end of Earthshock', but stopped myself just in time... ) But the transformation is remarkable and I agree, it's an untold story which would be great to hear. We know that BF writers pass this way sometimes, so perhaps the approving comments will float up to their High Council? Also, great idea for a new companion, a trained investigator should fit perfectly into TARDIS life and she might even keep the Fourth Doctor's flippancy in check... maybe! And given the criminal types she must have faced down on 70s Earth, there are some alien monsters in for a real wake-up call if they try the old 'abduct the companion' move... Well I didn't watch Classic Who during my youth. I imagine most of hatred for Adric came from younger viewers (especially male viewers) who may have been a bit jealous. And also I think kids are less forgiving of flaws in characters their own age. The hate for Adric reminds me a lot of the hate for Shinji Ikari from Evangelion.

Sorry a new companion over more Adric for me any day.
Loads of good Guest stars and an overriding Arc in 2018 the next 2 years for the 4th Doc in general look very good to me.

Release Formats and patterns are gradually changing to try and keep things affordable for customers but overall output shouldn't drop off too much apparently.

I look forward to hearing what Big Finish have come up with here. The idea of a straight-man style, no nonsense tolerated type of cop paired with Baker's outlandish, whimsical Doctor could work quite nicely. Baker loves to play off of that sort of thing and he's having fun then we'll all benefit from it. Hopefully Four and Adric will happen someday, too! I found both Romanas were the straight man, or Time Lady, to be a foil to the wilder and more unpredictable Fourth Doctor. And a period no-nonsense authority figure could just as easily describe Constance Clarke. I'd much rather whoever designed the new companion was more imaginative. A male perhaps, or an alien. The sort of character Ann represents I perceive to be the worryingly generic go-to for the new companion. It's audio, Big Finish don't need to spend time making the actor look alien! I think I'm starting to find that Big Finish are getting somewhat lazy with new companions. A new companion should be exciting and new, not something to sigh and think 'ugh, more of this' about In the past 2 years (since 2015) we've gotten: Chris and Roz in an audio debut Constance Clarke Helen Sinclair Donna in her BF debut Older Mel Jospa, sort of Flip's return Hex's return And now, Ann Kelso That's a lot of new companions for two years. And there's a slight lack of BF created testosterone. I'm not calling for all male new companions, but why can't Six get a male joining the crew? Or why can't we go back to Seven/Klein/Will for a trilogy? Just give us something different for once because it's all starting to get stale and boring.

Some of these are VERY tenuous as "new".

The list looked somewhat short without them. The point stands that Ann feels a bit too same old same old.

I'd have preferred an Adric season but hey. Bit funny given that people are always clamouring for more DI Menzies that we're getting a totally new cop companion.

Which you then say wasn't in actuality very long. Seemed a bit circular logic. It was meant to illustrate my point. That's my fault. I just want something different and experimental. An alien, or a male, or a married couple, or a dating couple. A gay man who's out and proud about it (I know Oliver, but something more than three hours and who's not going to have his entire character arc be about being gay and closeted). I just want something different from the straight white female in her 20s/30s/40s we've been seeing Big Finish casting as companion lately.

This sounds great fun. I hope they keep recording Tom Baker CDs at a rate of knots.
In the expanded (choose your own canon) Doctor Who universe, there's this new policewoman, then he has a period in Nest Cottage, and then it's Key to Time and Romana.

Speaking of companions they need to do a trilogy with Frobisher and the 6th Doctor. That would be amazing.

I did watch it when Adric was on the show - I hated the character because of the horrendous acting and the subpar writing of the character. Jealousy was certainly not a factor for me. I still find watching episodes with Adric painful, though I love the end of Earthshock when he is blow up.
As to his appearing with Tom - I wish I could remember where I saw it, but I do recall seeing something where it was stated that Tom couldn't stand working with Matthew during the short run they had on tv. Does anyone else remember seeing that? If so was that from an actual interview or am I remembering something from the rumour mill?

I'm glad to hear the Fourth Doctor is to get a new companion, and it is good Jane Slavin is playing her. True, she's been in a lot of releases, but although she always delivers a strong performance, she doesn't possess an instantly recognisable voice - I never think, 'not her again!' The main thing is, I think, that Jane and Tom clearly have great chemistry and seem to have become friends, and I feel that Tom likes to have familiar people around him. Great news!

I agree with your wanting to mix things up when it comes to new companions. As for making a companion "gay" just to be different - no thanks! Why does gay have to be the modern day equivalent to being different? My intention is not to browbeat your comments, but it seems to me like a contrived solution (which nowadays in entertainment appears to be fashionable) in order to create ingenuity. I would rather hear fallible varied personality traits explored and leave the bulk of any type of sexuality out of it.

I've been waiting for news on 2019's FDAs since I heard we'd be getting a new companion, but I never expected to get this much information all at once! I'm very excited for Series 8! I can wait for a series with Adric, there's still plenty of time for that later. AND we're getting a four part, Fourth Doctor adventure from John Dorney! Series 8 sounds fantastic!

Speaking of companions they need to do a trilogy with Frobisher and the 6th Doctor. That would be amazing. Hello again. I too have as soft spot for the wise guy whifferdill as played by Robert Jezek. I was absolutely terrified by The Holy Terror but loved the way Frobisher grappled with being the talking bird god. The Sixth Doctor is a great foil for the wiggly, wobbly shape changer. More stories? Me too! As for the Fourth Doctor, well a set of stories with a new companion may give Tom Baker's Doctor a different dynamic. It is pleasing that Tom while fashionably late to the Big Finish party is still keen to do more. Long may he fly flag for hat and scarf enthusiasts around the world...
