I think I have plenty of reasons to trust Big Finish on this one, and a number of them have already been stated by others. I certainly wouldn't mind maybe a boxset with the Fourth Doctor and Adric and/or Nyssa though. Maybe something rather along the lines of the Fifth Doctor boxset? Nyssa would be a bit of a stretch surely?

I didn't know if you would respond, but I did suspect you would know the answer. AND, I was wondering if you asked Matthew that question during your hosted Myth Makers #129 (I'll definitely be buying a copy)! I believe Tom Baker is a much more reasonable individual now, and it would be a nice redemption for him to be kind to Matthew when given the opportunity to work together again.

A few years ago (when the first series of Tom audios were being released) I - totally by chance - saw someone ask Tom if he would do an audio or two with Matthew. Tom then shouted to the room - DOES ANYONE KNOW MATTHEW? - I said I did and he said "Tell him I hope he's well and it'd be nice to see him again and maybe go into a studio." I believe they've met twice since then but not as yet in a studio.

Bear in mind I have no reason to be so sure, other than ... well, growing requests from fans!

I never in a million years expected there to be full cast Fourth Doctor, Romana II and K9 audios but we've had two series and some novel adaptations!

Has Adric ever been so popular in all his years of existence as on this thread today? (I immediately wanted to add: 'Yes, at the end of Earthshock', but stopped myself just in time... ) But the transformation is remarkable and I agree, it's an untold story which would be great to hear. We know that BF writers pass this way sometimes, so perhaps the approving comments will float up to their High Council? Also, great idea for a new companion, a trained investigator should fit perfectly into TARDIS life and she might even keep the Fourth Doctor's flippancy in check... maybe! And given the criminal types she must have faced down on 70s Earth, there are some alien monsters in for a real wake-up call if they try the old 'abduct the companion' move... Well I didn't watch Classic Who during my youth. I imagine most of hatred for Adric came from younger viewers (especially male viewers) who may have been a bit jealous. And also I think kids are less forgiving of flaws in characters their own age. The hate for Adric reminds me a lot of the hate for Shinji Ikari from Evangelion. No, Adric was just too annoying for words! Although only later on; I never found him annoying during the last Fourth Doctor season when the stories suited the character, but I think he outlived his usefulness as a character after Castrovalva. Mel (on TV) was in the same category for me, I almost wanted earplugs! A waste of a character who was supposed to be a computer genius with perfect recall. Of course, BF soon showed what a great character Mel really was, given good scripts, and now they've done it for Adric too.

So JNT got most of the blame from me for the shows failings after that!

I think Adric is one of them.

So JNT got most of the blame from me for the shows failings after that! Surely Eric Saward must take much of the 'blame'. I remember reading about a scene hasitly written, recorded during The Visitation studio time, but for broadcast during an under-running episode of the preceding Kinda. In it, Adric was chastising and mocking Tegan for having a weaker brain than everyone else, which was why The Mara infected her. I don't think Laurence Olivier could have performed that dialogue and not sounded like a precocious git!

Beats me, I always liked Adric very much and never thought he did anything that wasn't completely understandable, and that he was written and performed with remarkable realism. I very much felt like the Fifth Doctor TARDIS team was too much like a family not to think of them as one, and Adric with a comfort zone that doesn't allow for being outnumbered by his sisters without bringing out boasting and sibling rivalry with his nomination for the fifth wheel and some jabs and digs to boot. There's even a "father and son" talk between the Doctor and a pouting Adric. It all seemed very human to me.
I though Adric was just awesome - I signed on with Sarah Jane and Harry and it didn't take long before I felt like Harry was pretty marginalized, and then he was gone. Later I met Ian and Jamie, but at the time I was thrilled to think a young man had a chance in the TARDIS when Adric came along to prove it.
It would be wonderful to have Fourth Doctor and Adric stories because it was a different and too brief sort of family dynamic at that point. I think others in this thread have more or less observed that same thing previously. For me, maybe it's that it seems a bit like having too much anything going on between any TARDIS passengers distracts from the story (in fact that's probably still a significant difficulty for me with the New Series).
Dunno, I know it's completely silly (and I'm sure I could easily content myself with the Fourth Doctor and Adric reunited), but it really is hard for me not to wish maybe the Amazing Mr. Dorney could fit in a couple of four-parters during someone blinking in Logopolis, lol - since I really do think it's a shame that Sarah Sutton didn't work more with Tom Baker. So many Fifth Doctor and Nyssa stories later, I actually have to remind myself she was a companion of the Fourth Doctor even though I know it very well. Also, I do seem to think of Nyssa as very harmonious with Adric's earlier and (apparently better-appreciated?) dynamics. I adore her too, though - were there ever such pleasant and dignified companions as Romana I, Nyssa, and Evelyn?

I found Adric's characterisation to be perfectly in tune with an intelligent teenager who didn't get much attention. Maybe that's why fans at the time didn't like him, he reflected more of them than they were comfortable with. I even think that in Keeper of Traken Adric and Nyssa come across as kindred spirits, idealistic young prodigies. I'd love to hear in future season 19 audios for them to have a nice long conversation without the plot or Tegan butting in and Nyssa having to mediate yet another fight.

Eh, in regards to a male companion, I'm fine if the companions remain dominantly female. Sci-Fi's dominated by enough men, already, to be honest.
As for the comparsions between Constance and Ann ....I don't really see too much of the similarties, to be honest. I think there is enough difference enough in their occupation and class as characters.
It's going to be intresting to see Big Finish create an all-new distinct era for Four and it's something we know they'll engage with relish.

With David Richardson say that this series was set before the Doctor had finished unpacking K9 MkII I was surprised to see that K9 was in from the second story!
I thought they would give the new companion some stories on their own with the Doctor before introducing K9. It is not that I don't like K9 (far from it) it is just that all the Doctors recently seem to have to have two companions for some reason? Does it make the writing easier?
At least with K9 he often gets left behind in the Tardis, but it would have been nice for the Doctor to be without his K9 chum for a little while especially as he has been in the last four series! Perhaps when they do a boxset with Adric I will get that.

Yes I shouldn't complain about hearing more from a character I love, it was just a surprise that he was in series 8....once again!
Romana hasn't even finished her current run with the Doctor, but I am already concerned whether I will get to hear her with Tom in the future.
