Who's to say he didn't vote for Saxon in 2007 ? Haha! So the O Master was turned into the Saxon Master along with everyone else in The End of Time? The deeper you think the crazier it gets. Regards mark687

Who's to say he didn't vote for Saxon in 2007 ? Oh, in 2025 or so we'll have a series of boxsets from BF with exactly what Sacha's Master was up to for all those years, I'm sure. I'm guessing Mr.Briggs started writing the scripts 3 hours ago.

Regards mark687 Yes, I always think of the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 theme tune when stuff like this comes up: "If you're wondering how he lives or breathes - or other science facts..., Just tell yourself 'it's just a show, I should really just relax' " I mean you'd take it to it's zenith and he'd be able to kill the Brig as a teen, stop UNIT being founded, take out loads of companions at birth....but then there'd be no show so it's best to just MST3K it and relax after all!

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I really enjoyed that. Like Davy, I got a Fatal Death vibe off the last few minutes, but after the rest of the time-wimey shenanigans I sort of went with it, although it meant I gave it a 4 rather than a 5 simply because it felt so rushed by the end (shades of Time Heist). I can’t really fault it other than that, though. It was a great piece of television and the aliens and their plan seemed really interesting until we got to the end and they turned into the hyenas from The Lion King discovering that Scar has thrown them under a bus. There were so many great callbacks that fitted beautifully into the story - the Jodrell Bank reference, the Master working for the Nazis (Master race, hmmm?) and the Master running amok at the science exhibition. I love it when the Master lets rip because their capacity for casual violence is truly horrifying. I hope we see more of him because I’m loving this incarnation.
The Fam worked really well, mostly. The plan to get to Barton, the way they helped each other out, were all ways of showing that the Doctor’s trust in them is well-deserved. They did feel a bit sidelined in the second half, though, which was a shame.
As for the Gallifrey reveal, I love that the Master owned up to it and I really got the impression that this was what pushed him back into being his old self. Dhawan really underplayed a lot of scenes which only added to the genuine menace of the character.

It is impressive just how quickly Chibnall has thrown the show in reverse and retreated from stand-alone stories accessible to everyone and back to arc-heavy stories for which you need to have been watching for decades to get every reference. (And I think we also know out of RTD and Moffat, which one he prefers.) But why would the Master be angry at some dark secret from the Time Lord's past. Surely it would make him like them more? He hasn't "thrown the show in reverse and retreated" from anything. The first season was standalone, this one isn't. He never claimed that he would stick to stand alone stories throughout his time as showrunner. & this is only episode 2, we do not know how arc heavy this season will be yet. You may "need to have been watching the show for decades to get every reference" but they are not essential plot points, just bonuses for the fans. So it is "accessible to everyone". Again, this is only episode 2, we do not know how arc heavy this season will be yet. As for the dark secret? I'll wait until it is revealed. Yes, as I said in another thread little references that are titbits for us won't put off casual fans. If anything they'll rewatch years later maybe after going back to the classic series and go "Ahhhh". It's only when prior knowledge is essential that you're in trouble. Spectre and Trek: Into Darkness being among the worst for this. Take the "Jodrell bank" line from tonight. To any casuals, it's just a time that The Doctor and Master clashed before, to us we know it's The Pharos Project in Logopolis they're talking about

And am I being dense or is that the first "Previously on Doctor Who" voiceover we've had in the show? A staple of serialised drama but I can't recall it on WHo.

I think so, too: sometimes we’ve gotten a caption that says “Previously...” but I think this is the first time they’ve gone the full Majel.

Well, there were a few people not affected - Luke Smith wasn’t (IIRC Mr Smith shielded him from detection despite everyone else being the Master), the twelfth Doctor would have been immune as well.

Interesting but valid comment Benji Clifford @la_bonj · 20m20 minutes ago How can you do sound for a AAA television programme and not research what kind of air raid sirens they had in WW2 Paris?! I know there are a lot of people critising nitpicky things but this really is my ballpark and it took me less than 2 minutes to find a correct 1940s French siren that is available for licence. No negativity in these comments, just my job 🤷🏻♂️ Regards mark687 Oh, does anyone really care? Clearly at least 2 people.

That was good, I really enjoyed that. After such a strong Bond pastiche in the first half, it felt good to return to pure Who roots. I'm warming to the "geeky mechanic" persona that's been built up around this incarnation and the repressed instability of Dhawan's portrayal makes for an excellent foil. It's nice to see what Thirteen is capable of when she's not having to guard the lives of others. Deliberately selling the Master out to the Nazis with misinformation was a great moment (and true to the story's spy roots). The fam, likewise, got some nice moments as a team. Particularly on the construction site. On the razing of Gallifrey: I'm on record as someone who had problems with the reset of The Day of the Doctor. I think it was a mistake. You don't need Gallifrey to do stories about the Time Lords ( The Brain of Morbius, Shada, Underworld, et al.) and its return felt like a significant step backward without cause. A reversal never harnessed or explored (save through Hell Bent). I liked Spyfall's change in the status quo, but I'm much more enthusiastic that this purge been built into a new story arc and the Master's role in it. Not a whodunnit, but a whydunnit, in the Alan Moore tradition. We're in line for some hopefully quite interesting mythologising for the Time Lords over this coming year. It'll certainly give Thirteen more opportunities for internal strife. I love our current companions, but part of me would've liked to see the trio of the Doctor, Ada and Noor last just a bit longer. I sense an The Awakening gap (with Jane and Will) in the conceivable future... All in all, we're off to a roaring start. Looking forward to whatever Ed Hime's got for us next time.

The deeper you think the crazier it gets. Regards mark687 & we also have Missy in the vault for some of O Master's time on earth! He should have got her out! Sacha Master doesn't seem to have much fondness for his previous (?) incarnation, despite on some level, still trying to 'save' The Doctor, even if (and preferably) it means sending her over the edge. The Doctor-Master dynamic just got a whole lot nastier. While we don't know which incarnation went to Gallifrey yet, freeing Missy would have meant interfering with his timeline and potentially averting the destruction of Gallifrey.

I can't help but wonder if we're heading towards a Mindwarp scenario for the finale, with The Master somehow messing with The Doctor's mind to 'save' her and bring her closer to him, with some VERY harsh truths being revealed to the Fam?
