Aaah, that was me! I'm so happy John is one of the guys who's happy to answer. I'm a timeline nerd, but I'm sure they get annoyed at being asked those kind of things š

Ah haha, Iām glad thereās been a discussion about it. Itās nice to have a fixed placement for these things.
Especially with Specials continuity being completely screwed up in the EU. Trying to place everything is a pain.

Trying to place everything is a pain. I agree completely, especially with the second line; it's chaos! It doesn't help there's not a lot of TV episodes to "cling" on to and each one has some form of event into it, so the EU tries to attach itself to those as a way of telling you where it's placed in relation to the TV episodes. Coupled with so much of the material being a big event or featuring some sort of returning element; instinct tells you to try and space those out, even if it's not possible or logical.

What are our thoughts on Dalek Universe so far? Iām thinking in between The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead currently for a broad placement. Heās still affected by Donnaās departure, but it doesnāt dominate, so I think a short bit of time will have passed, but it doesnāt strike me as though heās been given the prophecy from Planet of the Dead. Iām sure more information will come as the other two sets are released. Someone asked John Dorney on Twitter if it was set between The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead, and his first response was basically that they had discussed it and he thinks that was roughly where they had decided it goes, although he didnāt seem 100% sure, so I suppose it could turn out that itās before The Next Doctor or after Planet of the Dead, but itās roughly in that area. {Major Spoiler but Ill try to be vague} The person who "kills" the Doctor knocks 4 times which would suggest post-PotD but he doesn't remark on it so it could also be argued that it's pre-PotD. Long story short: I don't know the answer

I remember asking eugeniep about Free Speech, a few months ago, and she suggested "probably some point after Rose's departure but before Donna and the events of The Waters of Mars, when he's still relatively upbeat and not jaded!"

Oh Iām surprised by that, i guess Iād put it between Voyage of the Damned and Partners in Crime then, because of the theme tune. I think I also put Death in the New Forest, The Skies of New Earth and Hounded in that gap too to spread them out from the Doctorās other Churchill and New Earth appearances.

(Iāve not spaced out the River audios, this is because I suspect that when she crops in DU, itāll probably be treated as though theyāve had many adventures before so itāll make sense to have the whole 10 & River set precede DU, and also because I suspect weāll eventually end up with so many 10/River audios that itāll become pointless trying to slot them around other stories to space them out. Also because I like release order.)

We also get that surrepticious four knocks at the door in Buying Time. Ten's rather timid non-reaction to it feels like something that'd fit pre- Planet.

Amazing to see how much extra content we've had in the past few years from Big Finish and just how expanded that Specials year has become under them, with at least another five audios unaccounted for (Classic Companions and two Out of Time). Of course, that's nothing as soon as you throw in IDW, Titan, DWM, BBC Books and god knows what else!

I think Last Chance takes place during The End of Time, themeddlingmonk, as it references the "final reward".

I think Last Chance takes place during The End of Time, themeddlingmonk , as it references the "final reward". Rather than final reward, he actually says last or final holiday. And thereās no hint of him being in the process of the dying in the story, but he does say that he has somewhere he needs to go and has to go alone and also says that heās going to end his holiday after this adventure, so itās open to interpretation but I feel like it sits better right before The End of Time, with the Doctor finally resolving to go to the Ood Sphere.

I'd just put The Gates of Hell after Out of Time for the sake of neatness. There's nothing explicit in there that I picked up on, other than it's post-Time Crash and it uses the 2008 theme (which would make it post-Time Crash anyway!). If that ending is picked up on and both Doctors have further adventures, we may get a more definitive placement, but I'm not even sure if that's what it was hinting at!

I personally put it before Partners in Crime, just because it felt like they were really surprised to see each other as though it hadnāt been that long since Time Crash. But yeah, it can practically go at any point the Doctor is alone, post-Time Crash so after Out of Time works.

Since 10 doesn't refer back to OOT #1, and acts like multi-Doctor stories are unusual, I would think he's unlikely to be experiencing these one after another (and, as you say, the ending implies otherwise anyway). On the other hand, if they *are* linked together, "Wink" will presumably give a strong indication of where it would haev to lie.

Weāre still between The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead for Dalek Universe. The second set shows heās still affected by Donnaās departure, but no mention of the prophecy (which he had a few opportunities to mention if we were post-POTD!).

Itād be nice if Dalek Universe ended up being pre-The Next Doctor, with the Doctor making a firm decision at the end that he no longer wishes to take on companions. Possibly with a suggestion that he fancies visiting a Christmas market or something as a cheeky lead in.
That way itād be plotted out so that right after Journeyās End he goes into the River Song set with Expiry Dating, plus the other two stories and probably some of the other narrated 10 content and cameos that have appeared in other BF ranges already. That gets him back into a degree of normalcy but heās still not far off Journeyās End and the loss of Donna is still raw. Then he gets pulled into the events of Dalek Universe and everything is brought bubbling to the surface and leads him to make his final decision that he no longer wishes to travel with companions, leading if not directly then just emotionally into the events of The Next Doctor.
And then hopefully we would pick up on the companion angst between The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead with the Tenth Doctor, Classic Companions set.
I know Iām shoving a lot into one gap here but I think it makes sense with BF to start in the earliest possible gap and then work forwards. Take the Doctor on an emotional journey from the Series 4 finale, to his adventures with River Song, then his reunion with Anya and Mark until eventually we get to The Next Doctor, whereās its almost back to business as usual for him, except one major change in that heās now adamant that he travels alone.

I havenāt finished set two yet so if my question/statement is answered just ignore me. But.
I donāt think the fact that Anya and Mark are his ācompanionsā this set is that contradictory to the next doctor. Its not like the doctor has a choice for all intents and purposes they are companions of circumstance. Same with river, although i guess she fits into the one off companion but still, much different to rose martha and donna which is the thing that the doctors avoiding in the specials.
Again though if this is addressed or theres somthing specific heās said or done later one in dalek universe 2 thats promoted this discussion then ignore me
