Another enjoyable episode but it's far too creepy for my seven year old to watch (he'll be gutted). Shades of The Mummy with the bugs and Mrs Acousticwolf went from hating the Landlord to feeling very sad for him.
I'll be disappointed if it's the Master (Simm) in the vault, because it's a bit too obvious and can't see why he has to be kept there for over seventy years. Sure all will be revealed eventually.
Cheers
Tony

Read the interview with Bartlett in DWM. Apparently the house is based on the student area I live in RIGHT NOW. So I'm slightly more terrified of sleeping tonight. Maybe you shoulda thought twice about signing the contract. Now, it's time to pay...

I think it's The Doctor's in the vault albeit in a evil incarnation or cybernised form. Novel thought, but with all the eating references... my money's still on Simm.

I agree, I just worked off the assumption that there was nothing of the previous victims left to restore. That at a 20 year interval the space lice would feed slowly. Which I think makes them even creepier and scarier. Also, I loved how Bill's flatmates reacted to seeing The Doctor. Rock star lecturer. I also thought it was interesting that Bill lied and referred to The Doctor as her grandfather and The Caretaker lied about his daughter being his mother. In theory, could the students find they have things missing I wonder? Things that have already been eaten? What if one of them found they'd lost a kidney? Or half of their heart?

I think it's The Doctor's in the vault albeit in a evil incarnation or cybernised form. Another good episode, tense scary & emotional, David Suchet was fantastic & the twist that he was wooden moms son was great. Pearl Mackie is like a breath of fresh air as Bill & Capaldi was on fine form channelling his inner Fourth Doctor eccentrics. However these episodes would benefit from being 60 minutes long as i felt the pacing is rushed & we lose characterization along the way, we discovered nothing really about the students or The Caretakers past, my theory is he was a only child who's dad has died & is scared his moms terminal illness will make him a orphan & so he makes a deal with the insects to feed them in return for saving his mothers life. The Musketeers episodes were 60 minute episodes & it worked great so why aren't the BBC doing this for there most popular imported show we've already lost a episode from 13 to 12? Anyway this episode gets a 8/10 from me. The Musketeers was also only 10 episodes a year with no special so if we go with your suggestion we'd get less Who as those 35% longer eps don't make themselves! Doesn't sound quite so good when thought through. I really can't agree with you or DB we needed more of The Caretaker's childhood, and both of you mention him being left by his father...it's just not needed. Having it "just" be a boy who wants to save his mother is much, much more powerful than convoluting it. It's a simple, universal story we could all empathise with just the way it is.

I dunno with the reference of the Doctor having chats with them and them playing a piano I would suspect it's Missy rather than Simm, seems more characteristic of her incarnation than Simm's.

Another pretty solid episode. Not as successful as its predecessors, but only by a small margin. Bill's characterisation felt a bit off (Mackie's performance remains excellent though) and the decision to have the house regurgitate the devoured students felt a bit too much like the reset switch this era of the show flips a little too often. David Suchet's performance is marvellous as always and the decision to create a story where the antagonist is essentially a little boy trying to keep his dying mother alive is a bold one. A figure closer to the tragedy of Sharaz Jek than the sadism of Magnus Greel. I agree with Timelord007 , these stories have been extremely enjoyable, but I reckon an extra ten minutes or so of screentime would help to smooth out some of the hiccups we've seen in previous entries. The Pilot for expanding Heather's character, Thin Ice for Sutcliffe and Smile for better setting up its climax. It's the only issue I've really had with this run so far, certain characters missing the little touches that make us fully invest in them. All in all though, they're minor complaints in a season that is continuing to go strong.

A piano rendition of Pop Goes the Weasel definitely strikes me as something characteristic of Gomez's unhinged Mary Poppins incarnation.

One of the things you learn in screenwriting is just because you can, doesn't mean you should. A concept or plot point (which the father isn't, it's backstory) is not a story. His father isn't important to either Knock Knock or even the Caretaker's viewpoint or motivation.

Really really enjoyed that. My 11 year old daughter clung to me throughout, which is just how Doctor Who should be.

4.32 million watched 'Knock Knock' last night, a rise of over half a million from last week and up from 'Smile's 4.25 a couple of weeks ago. Clearly, Doctor Who should be being watched by at least the entire viewing population, but that's a pleasing rise. This series is excellent so far, it would be nice to see a steady rise throughout.

I watched Knock, Knock a second time and I liked it even more. The sound design is really quite impressive and I think the space lice are even creepier the second time around. 1/4th into the series and this is a really strong series of Who.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Watched it a second time - is anyone else getting a Psycho vibe off it: creepy landlord, spooky house, mother hidden away....?

My favorite episode so far, I think - I'll have to rewatch everything just to be sure, though, since all the episodes so far have been very strong. I kept expecting the landlord to turn out to be a Time Lord, for some reason, but I wasn't disappointed with the twist. I am relishing every single second Peter Capaldi's onscreen - I just can't believe this is his last season! Every episode, he puts in one of his best performances and I just can't look away for a single second.
I kind of expected more of the previous victims to show up at the end as well - it kind of seems like the sort of thing RTD would have done - but I think it was a smarter move to omit them - too much of a happy ending can be a bad thing for an episode as creepy as this one.

Actually, it's a bit of a twist on the Pied Piper as well, isn't it? The vermin attracted by noise to do the musician's bidding. Nightmare fuel. So, so, so, so, much nightmare fuel. Particularly considering that you didn't have to be inside the house for it to get you. Anyone have a tuning fork? I feel like playing "Shout at the Devil" with a flamethrower.
