To cause fear and quite possibly to also try and start a holy war.
Cheers

The tweets that story is based on have been withdrawn. I have reasons to believe that wires have got crossed on this story.

Ok. Without emotion... What do the people who do this hope to achieve? It could be any number of things. If the British national suspected of the attack is confirmed, his sister believes it was done in retaliation to United States air strikes on Syria. The murder of children met with the murder of children. Disgusting waste of human life on both sides. If that isn't the case, if it's instead something a great deal broader, then it could easily be to drive a further wedge between peaceful Muslim communities in the West. The more they're marginalised, the more likely they are to become radicalised.

The murder of children met with the murder of children. If that sentence doesn't make your stomach ache... It's all just horrifying beyond words. The only consolation is that we so often see the best of humanity when dealing with the fallout from the worst. Communities are banding together to support each other, raising money for those whose lives have been shattered. There's also story going around about two men - both homeless - who ran into the building to help, both being hailed as heroes. People have raised quite a bit of money for them, as well - and one of them might even be back in contact with his estranged mother as a result. I find it's easy to be cynical in times like these, but it's important to remind ourselves that people can be good. acousticwolf , @brians : I'm glad to hear your families are doing as well as can be expected. I hope that your families and friends have a solid support network and that the kids aren't afraid to leave the house and enjoy their lives.

There just isn't the language for such a thought. It makes me feel very, very tired... Mmm. That's what I think should be taken away from this more than anything else. Remember to live and remember that good is real.

There have been some sick people posting on my friend's facebook page that it didn't happen and that it's all a conspiracy. You want to know what's worse? These people are (were) apparently friends of theirs. I'm so angry right now ...

My posts are back to front at the moment. This one should have been first ...
We had a chat to our daughters last night - they are going to London next week to see Shaun Mendez in concert at the O2. They have decided to still go, our eldest (18) said she isn't going to be stopped by cowards and that (bizarrely) it's probably safer to go right now. Our younger girl (14) is obviously worried but they are going with other family members, so won't be on their own and know that they can change their mind at any time if it's too much for them.
My niece has decided to continue to compete in the Great Manchester Run on Sunday and my mother and Sister are going to support her. Sadly we have other things on and so can't go.
It's a very worrying time for us, but we can't let these people win ...

It's truly sickening what those terrorists did by targeting a concert popular with kids. I don't understand how anyone could do such an awful and unforgivable thing.

These people are (were) apparently friends of theirs. I'm so angry right now ... I saw one of those people on Twitter too. These are the same type of people who said the Sandy Hook massacre was also a conspiracy. This same person also believes the Earth is flat. There were a lot of good people who helped each other out but a lot of people also used this to spread false information which makes me angry. Lot of people tweeted info about fake children and now I learned that all the tweets that there were unaccompanied children in hotels was also fake (and I tweeted some of this info myself thinking it was in good faith). I don't understand why people would take advantage of a tragedy like that just so they could get retweets on Twitter. That's just sick.

I think it's just completely disrespectful that people feel the need to come up with these utterly ludicrous theories. As for faking missing persons, I will never understand why people do that. Attention seeking at its worst.

Oh, Christ... We had the same thing happen in the Melbourne CBD. He was just a crazed lone wolf out on bail, in our case. No political connection. Hope everyone's safe. The Guardian and ABC News are both doing live updates as the situation develops.

For those not familiar with London, although the news is currently describing multiple attacks at London Bridge and Borough Market, given how close they are to each other, indeed you can more or less enter Borough Market directly from London Bridge, I suspect this is one attack and not two.

Yeah, the conspiracy nut jobs like Alex Jones of Info Wars and the ones who actually take him seriously are completely deluded and cut off from reality.

I'm not a religious man but at times like this I am so thankful that my girls came home when they did. 2 days earlier and it could have been so different.
My thoughts go out to the families of those brutally murdered and those injured in what has become yet another horrific attack.
