Mixed feelings on this - it’s nice to see some old characters back (nice to see Sally and Lysandra back - sad lack of Klein and Raine though!) but inclusion of Sontarans is… well, I’ll wait and see more details before judging. Kane returning is also an… interesting choice.

I decided to pre- order this since I figured this is the release everyone was advertising at the convention ( without them saying what it was). But Daisy Ashford was so enthused about her dad coming back as the Master and Beevers must really have enjoyed himself and Yasmin Bannerman was also happy to be back as Roz. Plus, I just like Ace.

The premise is intriguing. I think I’ll give first set a try and then see how I feel. I know I bemoan crossover fever, and this is definitely that in droves, but at least it’s kinda justified here.
That said, it’s interesting to compare this The Last Adventure as it kinda shows how Big Finish have shifted regarding !event! releases over the years.
Last Adventure: Single boxset, one advertised old villain, a selection of old companions from various eras of Sixie.
Last Day: Two boxset saga, three advertised old villains, every companion of Seven they could get their hands on.

I'm not really that surprised by Klein being absent. I think in today's current climate Big Finish would be a trifle reticent to do anything involving her. Shame Raine isn't in it though. Not that I thought she was a stand-out character or anything but considering she just kind of vanished it would be nice to have some acknowledgment of her.
Now as for Kane making a return? Well, I suppose it would either be him or the Bannermen wouldn't it?

Love the idea, but think it will all come down to how it’s executed, to be honest. I think I’d also have preferred a different writing duo; Fitton can often be style over substance and Guy Adams struggles outside the 60 minute format.

Well, it has a longer run-time all together than Last Adventure did, so I live in hope they can pull this off. However, I also dread that this might devolve into another Once and Future (shudders!).
But, and that might be a good indicator, all the characters involved have some connection to the 7th Doctor and are not just thrown about willy-nilly like in Once and Future.

I'm not sure that's entirely fair - I don't know how comparable this is to The Last Adventure. The Last Adventure was a sequence of stories solely connected by the Valeyard, which from a marketing point of view was a great way to introduce listeners to Sixth Doctor eras they might not have been aware of. This is one continuous 6-hour story where the Seventh Doctor gathers his companions together. The Last Adventure was an special-edition-only anthology release, whereas this seems more akin to Avengers Assemble - one story that brings all these different characters together.

The many 7th Doctor companions could be cameos with only one or two in each episode.
I hope we get some timey wimey 7th Doctor exploits, with his manipulation key to the plot.

Am I mis-remembering or was the first appearance of The Eleven, when caught by McCoy not supposed to lead straight into him being sent on that rather odd mission with The Master's ashes from the TVM? Certainly remember it felt that way.

Certainly remember it felt that way. It was implied, but in such a vague way could easily be ignored.

Erm…have Big Finish managed to neglect to get permission to use Seventh Doctor’s companions, for a second time?!

Erm…have Big Finish managed to neglect to get permission to use Seventh Doctor’s companions, for a second time?! Have they forgotten it the first time, too? I must have missed that. Well, that is awkward since Yasmin has recorded as Roz... newly recorded. Maybe fire the intern? And we all know how well the PR team works out for BF....

The first time is supposedly they didn’t run using Raine in UNIT: Dominion by Andrew Cartmel, and him being cross at that is why she hasn’t appeared on audio since.

I hope that Big Finish can work something out with Andy Lane. I really like the Chris and Roz stories BF has put out so far, and I’m hoping that this leads to more from them. I can’t believe they’ve made this mistake again.

I wonder if there is bad blood between BF and Andy Lane because of whatever went on with him being rewritten on UFO vol 1 and then taken off writing duties altogether for vol 2

From what I read in Vortex, these sets have the potential to be epic, bonkers and brilliant or an exercise in box ticking.
I can't say I'm too enthusiastic for the return of the Sontarans. I enjoy Strax and Chibnall's last Sontaran story was very good but as a returning foe I find them rather dull.
Geoffrey Beevers Master is a most welcome return and perhaps pertinent to the plot given the 7th Doctors role in the TV Movie.
I really want this to be good and not like Once and Future. If this is 7s Last Day then he deserves a meaningful adventure and not an excuse to reunite the old gang for a meh fest.
