I was listening to the Transcendence of Ephros (great story) and it occurred to me that the way they story ended leaves Mother Finsey free to return in any future story including Seventh Doctor Adventures. I wonder if her appearance in The Last Day is foreshadowing that she has had previous encounters with the Seventh Doctor. Kind of like how A Death in the Family foreshadowed Thomas Brewster's travels with Evelyn and the Sixth Doctor or how UNIT and the Seventh Doctor Adventures set up Harry and Naomi's travels with the Fourth Doctor. I really hope this is the case, as it would make her inclusion feel more fitting and less random.

Just found this Regards mark687 That's a disgrace if so. Big releases like this should be the easiest to get into as "the final adventure of the Doctor you love..." may attract some people who dont buy much. From that it seems you need a lot, and other posters back it up too.

From what I’ve heard the last day part one is so hard to follow and the 7th doctor is only in the Boxset for a short amount of time

If you come into this not familiar with Benny and Hex, there’s no context offered to make up for this as story works on assumption you recognise them. If you don’t know who Finsey is you’ll have no idea why she and the Master seem to hate each other. If you don’t know who Vienna is that’s a cameo entirely wasted on you. If you haven’t listened to Dark Universe then like me you haven’t got a hope of grasping the context around the Doctor’s status quo. If you’ve never heard The Quantum Possibility Engine which I haven’t, this story is a tad better at giving context but still a character from it returns who I had to Google. And I edit the damn wiki from time to time, I’m no slouch at random lore.

Has there been a Big Finish trailer any less representative of what the story is about? It’s bordering on being completely misleading; can only assume this was done to encourage a bundle pre-order before someone can see the reviews.

Oh I only just watched it and yeah that bears absolutely no resemblance to the actual story. None of the companions have even met him yet besides alt-Ace and Hex!

It's telling that in the Backstage article they say “It was quite easy to include a shopping list across two whole box sets...". That's not how you write stories!

Going on what people are saying this set is and Matt Fition's "It's very accessible for newcomers" comments, I wonder if Big Finish even know what the end results of their work is, or if they're too close. They've caught me out too many times with the "great jumping on point" and Ive spent money on stuff that makes no sense. This sounds like the worst of that. If diehards cant even make head nor tails, what chance the newcomer? While it may work to get some sales in for a set - it's the boy (the script editor?) who cried wolf. I never believe their announcement quotes now and wait for people who paid for it. Not the staff and not the reviewers who give everything good reviews to get their name on the Big Finish site and maintain promotional copies. I dont mind hype and I get marketing - but outright John Bull is not OK.

I've heard about 2/3s of the stories required to follow the threads of The Last Day. I was very disappointed with the set because it absolutely didn't deliver on what I was hoping for 7s Last Day.
In terms of the story itself, I can be a little kinder, and say that some of the ideas are interesting, an alternative timeline going rogue with an apparently corrupted Doctor and Ace is fine and another Ace recruiting a Suicide Squad of villains is a fantastic idea.
I have to question the pointless inclusion of so many characters, including 7th Doctor regulars and the writers obscure creations.
Mel and Benny wonder around in the dullest parts of the story, followed by a one off villain from a release I've not heard.
Vienna is around for 2 minutes and then dies.
Ace's suicide squad (great concept) is a mixed bag because I can't help but think a better line-up of villains old and new is out there. Geoffrey Beevers is a fantastic choice and so is the idea of teaming him up with a former companion he tried to kill, but again the Mother character is reliant on listening to The Transcendence of Ephros.
Gerundel was another pointless link to a story from the writers back catalogue and taking up space a far more interesting character could have filled.
Kane from Dragonfire is okay but feels included only to tick off a link to the Doctor's past.
Hex and family mixed up with distopian Ace was the one plot thread I really got on board with, it felt like a chance to tell a relevant story based on 7s past.
The lack of 7 in this set hugely dissapointed me, my frustration at this greatly eroded my good will to objectively enjoying 7s Last Day.
