Only a week away and STILL no trailer!? I'm getting a strong feeling that there are some big things they wanna keep under wraps. But WHAT (or WHO) could it be? Fenric? Lungbarrow? Paul McGann? Unlimited rice pudding? Et cetera? WAIT!!! I just had a crazy thought while writing this. What if these Last Day boxsets turn out to be a secret (albeit very loose) adaptation of the legendary lost story, Steven Hall's Fifty-Fifty? For those who don't know, Steven Hall was the writer of two acclaimed Seventh Doctor audios. The short story, "The Word Lord", and "A Death In The Family" (One of the best BF stories ever). Both of these stories also featured However, Hall was also planning a third and final audio story for the 50th Anniversary in 2013. This would've been called Fifty-Fifty and featured an "big, epic and pretty brutal showdown" between the Seventh and Eighth Doctors. You can read more about it here - tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Fifty-Fifty_(unproduced_audio_story). In short, Eight travels back through his own time stream to prevent "the moment where 7 went bad". It's McCoy vs McGann! With the companions forced to choose sides. Think about it. From what we know about The Last Day, Seven is trying to find "a way to put things right, once and for all" before his forthcoming death. Perhaps Seven has caught a glimpse of his future (Time War maybe? He did learn about in the Damaged Goods adaptation after all) and doesn't believe that Eight or any of his future incarnations will be capable of preventing it and saving Gallifrey. But Eight learns about Seven's plan and tries to stop it, perhaps even recruiting Seven's former companions to stop him. We have also heard from writer Guy Adams that he believes that the Seventh Doctor era "featured the greatest villain that the Doctor Who universe has ever had – and we liked the idea that it was a villain that needed facing. This was exactly the story in which to do it" What if that villain turns out to be the Seventh Doctor himself? Having finally gone too far! While I do love that idea, I worry that it might cast the Eighth Doctor as the hero in a boxset that should theoretically celebrate the Seventh Doctor, which might be frustrating to fans of that specific incarnation.

Yeah, I thought about that too. I still think it could work though, as long as you have Seven renounce this path early enough so you can have him redeem himself before the end. I also remember Matt Fitton mentioning something in DWM and Vortex about "other versions of reality and universes". So perhaps there will be an evil, alternative Seventh Doctor? Kinda similar to that fan theory about an Alternate Third Doctor being the Big Brother figure of the Inferno universe.

This might be the only BF release I can think of that has NO TRAILER before it's release? Is that right?

Regards mark687 Yeah I'm tempted to believe it's just the marketing person on holiday. No matter how big the surprise in a release it's very easy to cut a trailer that obscures it.

Two episodes in and plot has just arrived. The runtime so far has been Ace pulling together the monstrously long cast list. Kane is surprisingly the standout so far; as most are just their character doing their thing for five minutes before Ace moves on but he gets some serious time.
Fair warning; if you don’t know already who Finsey, Garundel and Vienna are, this episode does not really handhold in that respect with only vague lines to give context. Also there’s hints towards Dark Universe, which I have not listened to so no clue what they really mean.

Also two eps in and yeah....it's a conveyor belt of Ace approaching a character (and some who aren't pretty deep BF and McCoy fans are gonna be a bit lost over some of these characters) and saying "YOU...are gonna help me save the Universe" to be met with "WHAAAT?".
Won't pass judgement on the set of course but I can see some people being really quite confused in a hurry. So far it's more "The Seventh Doctor's Last Day....Off" as McCoy seems to have taken some annual leave. But, of course, just a third in. Or a sixth since I'm assuming very few people will only buy part one!

Great if your 7th Doc fan, head scratching odd if your not, a release hasn't had this many obscure call backs in a while
The gang's all here performing with gusto but no idea what the stakes are.
Roll on June just for some clarity

I've finished the first three episodes and I'm not that impressed. It's both too slow and too fast. It introduces the major players in a good manner though I think Mother Finsey and Graundel should have had better explanations as they're histories are skipped over despite the fact they could help.
Part 1 was great, a good introduction shows what too expect. Part 2 was alright, a bit confusing but I love anything with the Beevers master. Part 3 was dreadful - it's confusing and just made me genuinely question the quality of this.
I'm not going to offer a rating until I'm finished with the boxset but I am very cautious if it'll live up too my expectations.

3 eps in and the releases this reminds me most of - and it's not a good thing - the convoluted kitchen sink approach of Colin's Doctor Of War.
There's a scene at the end of Ep 3 where it's like the story realises how all over the place it is and Sylv literally says "You haven't the remotest grip what's happening here I'm afraid...let me try and explain it". While it's meant for the character he's addressing, it's easy to think someone thought "better put something in, this is all over the shop".

Episode 3 demonstrates the odd priorities of the exposition. We have a detailed exposition on Alt-Ace (despite no one being present in the scene who would not know this information already) but no explanation on the whispery entities the Doctor seems to be working with. I suppose they’re from Dark Universe?
Ultimately I’m no clearer what the Doctor’s status quo really is; comparison to Doctor of War feels apt.

Only last week I cancelled my pre order for this bundle, something I have never done before, but for precisely the reasons people are saying.
It looked like way too many characters and relying on knowledge of stories I've simply not heard.
If I had listened to all of 7's arcs then I'd be more inclined to go for it but even then I think the number of characters is just to much.
Surely people would prefer 7's final story to just be a really good 7/Ace (with maybe Mel/Benny cameos) story that delivers on their character's history. Even end with a big betrayal to show why 7 is alone at the start of the TV Movie.

What is it with Sylvester's stories? I should point out that, having recvently been burned by Once and Forgotten (that was a typo, but I'm keeping it!), I'd been waiting for the reviews before buying this fairly landmark release, so I might really enjoy it. But hearing these comments makes me glad I saved my money. Not since The Grey Man of the Mountain have we had a decent Seventh Doctor story, and the last really good one (IMO, of course) was Muse of Fire, five years ago! If there was a hundredth of the originality and willingness to experiment of his television shows on offer, I'd snap these audios up like a shot. It's such a shame because Sylvester deserves so much better than this. Come on, BF, get someone involved in the production of his stories who actually enjoys the era he was part of. The Third Doctor's time isn't always remembered with huge fondness, but blimey, his audios make such a good job of recreating that time as well as telling some fantastic stories. Poor old Seven has neither of those luxuries and it's a real waste.
Where's me pills?

Up to Episode 5; we get shenanigans with Mel, Benny and Hex’s family but no sign of Ace’s team set up in episode 2. Plus added Ogrons and Sontarans, and a reveal of why Fitton put The Quantum Possibility Engine on his big list of definitely-not-required-listening in DWM (I have not heard that story either). For such a busy story, the plot is still no clearer. People are just doing things with no obvious sense of what any of them are working towards.
Also why is the Masterful theme tune of all things in the soundtrack?!
